Horizontal Rod Supported By One Or More Uprights (e.g., Hanger Rod, Etc.) Patents (Class 211/204)
  • Publication number: 20010015535
Abstract: A household cart has a wooden or molded plastic rectangular base for carrying household items. Four caster assemblies on the base are close to the four corners of the base. A U-shaped handle has hooks for carrying household items approximately halfway between side edges of the base, about equidistant from front and back edges of the base. The handle can be positioned either transversely or longitudinally of the base. In the handle transverse position, legs of the handle fit into a first pair of receptacles located between (1) the casters close to the base back edge and (2) the cart transverse center line. In the longitudinal position, the legs fit into a second pair of receptacles located along a longitudinal center line of the base. The receptacles of the first pair are spaced from each other by the same distance as the receptacles of the second pair.

  • Patent number: 6223915
Abstract: Apparatus for securely retaining hangers includes a hanger bar, a retainer bar, and a pair of end assemblies. Each end assembly is coupled to an end of the hanger bar and has a pair of guide walls projecting away from the hanger bar to form a guide channel. The retainer bar is slideably disposed and moveable within the guide channel between an open position and a clamping position to engage and secure the hangers to the hanger bar. A latching mechanism is attached to each end assembly and is engageable with the retainer bar to secure the retainer bar in the clamping position. The latching mechanism is preferably at least partially disposed between the guide walls to protect the latching mechanism from accidental bumping, thereby reducing unintentional disengagement of the latching mechanism. The apparatus can include at least one biasing member that urges the retainer bar away from the hanger bar to facilitate loading or unloading of the hanger bar.

The hardware includes a locking member movable in part by inertial forces between a released or unlocking position and a locking position where it forms a one way slip clutch with the inner surface of the outer member which permits the inner member to be raised which then preferably shifts the locking member into a release position. The inner member is moved further up or down to its desired position. Whenever the inner member is released, it is preferred that gravity will cause the inner member to move suddenly downwardly a small distance quickly to cause the locking portion of this member to move to its locking position.
