  • Patent number: 7762412
Abstract: A mobile lift crane includes a carbody having moveable ground engaging members; a rotating bed rotatably connected to the carbody such that the rotating bed can swing with respect to the ground engaging members; a boom pivotally mounted on a front portion of the rotating bed and a mast mounted at its first end on the rotating bed and having a second end; and at least one hydraulic cylinder pivotally connected at a first end to the rotating bed. The hydraulic cylinder is positioned and configured so as to be able to raise the second end of the mast from the mast being in a near horizontal position to a position where the mast is used during crane pick, move and set operations. In a preferred embodiment, at least one arm is pivotally connected at a first end to the rotating bed and at a second end to the hydraulic cylinder. The arm and cylinder are connected together such that extension and retraction of a piston within the hydraulic cylinder causes the second end of the arm to raise and lower.

  • Patent number: 6442439
Abstract: A command shaping control system and method for rotary boom cranes provides a way to reduce payload pendulation caused by real-time input signals, from either operator command or automated crane maneuvers. The method can take input commands and can apply a command shaping filter to reduce contributors to payload pendulation due to rotation, elevation, and hoisting movements in order to control crane response and reduce tangential and radial payload pendulation. A filter can be applied to a pendulation excitation frequency to reduce residual radial pendulation and tangential pendulation amplitudes.

  • Patent number: 6250485
Abstract: A mobile aerial apparatus includes a lower boom and an upper boom and pivotally mounted to a pedestal. A lift cylinder pivots the lower boom. An articulated assembly includes a common pivot support secured to the articulated ends of the booms on a common axis. A link unit has a common pivot member on said common pivot axis. An upper boom cylinder unit has a cylinder pivotally connected on the common pivot axis and a piston rod connected to an upper boom connector of the link unit. A lower boom cylinder unit has a cylinder pivotally connected on the common pivot axis and a piston rod connected to a lower boom connector of said link unit. The connections to the link unit form a triangular assembly with the pivot axis being parallel to each other.

  • Patent number: 5836462
Abstract: Adjusting device for a hoisting crane including a work spindle, which is given an axial travel within a cylinder by a relative movement between a screw and a cooperating groove following a driving device. The work spindle has a free end, which is connected to a lifting arm of the hoisting crane through a connector or the like. In order to make it possible to move the work spindle axially without help of the driving device in the case of an emergency, the connector includes a connection which is stiff in the axial direction of the work spindle, and which includes two parts which are rotatable in relation to each other against a certain friction resistance around an axis, which is concentric to the work spindle.

  • Patent number: 5390380
Abstract: A bed having a lifting apparatus for raising and lowering an object, such as a person, onto and off the bed, and a stabilizing leg for stabilizing the bed against transverse tipping forced induced by the operation of the lifting apparatus. The lifting apparatus is pivotally attached to the bed by a boss and has a jib for attachment to the object. The jib being able to be moved between stops for the transfer of the object onto the off the bed. Reinforcement is provided to inhibit excessive deflection of the bed so as to maintain an axis of pivot of a mast of the lifting apparatus disposed substantially vertically. Various reinforcing arrangements are proposed for beds of differing purpose and construction. A spigot carrier is provided for mounting the mast onto a boss of the bed and has bearings for acting in relation to axial and radial forces from the lifting apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4529094
Abstract: The inner end of a tower crane boom is connected to the top of its tower by two lugs fixed on the tower, each having an upwardly opening slot, and two trunnions fixed on the inner end portion of the boom, one for each lug, each rotatably seatable in the rounded bottom of the slot in its lug. The slot bottom in one lug defines a first fixed axis, midway between the front and rear sides of the tower, about which the boom swings in its range of working positions; that in the other lug defines a second fixed axis, near the front side of the tower, about which the boom swings to and from an inoperative position wherein it extends along the front side of the tower. The distance between the trunnion axes equals the distance between the fixed axes. Links confine the boom against moving to a position in which neither trunnion is seated in the slot in its lug.
