Abstract: A towing arrangement intended for train couplers includes a bar (8), which at a rear end has an axially projecting pin (10), which projects through a through hole (40) in a plate (11), which on both sides is surrounded by shock-absorbing spring members (12), which always aim to hold the pin in a starting position in relation to the plate, and against the action of which the pin together with the bar are axially movable. The plate (11) is included in a mandrel (16) equipped with a cone (19), which mandrel is inserted into a deformation tube (17), more precisely into a wide, front tube section (22), which via a waist (23) transforms into a thinner, rear tube section (21), which is deformable by the mandrel (16). A deformation tube is also described.
Abstract: A rigid draft and buffing sliding sill includes cushion elements operably attached thereto for absorbing shocks generated during buff or draft operating conditions. The draft and buffing sliding sill extends lengthwise of the underframe of a railway car. At least one of the cushion elements remains inactive until the shock forces acting on the underframe exceed a predetermined magnitude.
Abstract: A fabricated backstop for an end-of car cushioning unit in a railway car. The backstop is composed of two plate members or pieces which are welded separately to the inside of a center sill. One backstop piece is a generally U-shaped vertical plate member which is welded about its entire outer circumference to the inside of the center sill and provides an over-solid stop. The second backstop piece is a horizontal plate member positioned in contact with the rear face of the vertical plate member and having a cutout portion to receive an end collar of an end-of-car cushioning device. The horizontal plate member is welded at its front face to the vertical plate member and at its outer sides to the center sill to provide a rear buff stop and a rear draft stop.
Abstract: A universal fabricated backstop/buffstop comprising a pair of parallel, juxtaposed side plates, each side plate having a channel therein, a forward transverse member having the ends thereof secured to the pair of side plates and having a slot located in the center of the forward transverse member, and a rear transverse member having the ends thereof secured to the pair of side plates.
Abstract: A fabricated backstop/buffstop comprising a pair of parallel, juxtaposed side plates, each side plate having a central opening therein, a forward transverse member having each end thereof freely positioned in a portion of the central opening of each side plate of the pair of side plates and having a slot located in the center of the forward transverse member, and a rear transverse member having each end thereof freely positioned in a portion of the central opening of each side plate of the pair of side plates.
