Multilayer Barrier Structure Patents (Class 215/12.1)
  • Patent number: 6332557
Abstract: A vacuum-insulated beverage container has a body and a vacuum-insulated liner enclosed by the body. Seals between the body and the liner prevent all types of leaks of the beverage held in the liner. A handle is attached to the container in a manner that the handle is removable and is only attached with one removable fastener. Nesting drinking cups are provided that removably attach to the container and to one another. The drinking cups can be separated from one another by directly pulling the cups apart or by rotating one cup relative to another.

  • Patent number: 6296129
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for wrapping a container having a neck portion and a body portion. The method uses a heat-shrinkable sleeve which has a perforation thereon. The sleeve is placed over the container, and heat is applied to the sleeve to cause the sleeve to shrink. The sleeve breaks at the perforation into a first and a second subsleeves which continue to shrink into snug surface engagement respectively with the neck portion and the body portion of the container. The present invention also relates to articles obtained by the method and the sleeve specifically designed for the method.

  • Patent number: 6288161
Abstract: Improved oxygen barrier and oxygen absorbing compositions and structures comprising blends of xylylene group-containing polyamides and cobalt octoate and xylylene group-containing polyamides, polyesters and cobalt octoate are disclosed and claimed. These blends have superior barrier properties and clarity obtained by controlling the degree of orientation and the amount of cobalt. These novel blends are used as single layers and as the core layer in multiple layer films, structures and articles. When used in multiple layer structures, the adjacent layers are comprised of polyesters and/or polyamides. The structures made from the blends of the present invention have a clarity that is superior to structures previously known in the art.

  • Patent number: 6276558
Abstract: The receptacle consists of a stiff outer receptacle and an easily deformable inner bag resting on said outer receptacle, and is produced in a coextrusion-type blow molding process. The outer receptacle contains at least one pressure compensating opening through which air enters between the outer receptacle and the inner bag whenever receptacle contents is discharged, for instance, by means of a pump. The at least one pressure compensating opening is formed by the measure that a curved wall section of the outer receptacle is cut away by means of a rotating tubular knife or a hollow knife in such a manner that a hole is formed in the outer wall. During the cutting operation, which is carried out at a flat angle, the inner bag is not damaged, but pressed away inwardly.

  • Patent number: 6270868
Abstract: A composite plastic container is formed by blow molding a body from a plastic parison into a base having a bottom, side walls and an open top, which includes an upper annular edge. A peripheral shoulder defines the upper portion of the body. The double side walls and bottom are relatively thick for strength and stability; the bottom also including a substantially solid rim in alignment with the annular edge for enhanced stability. A central opening in the bottom forms a plastic plug to anchor the bottom to the base. The lip of the shoulder mates and substantially covers the annular edge forming a smooth, rounded interface in the preferred embodiment. The peripheral lip can mate in other ways with the annular edge. Other features include an insert label and a protrusion in a side wall to form a window.

  • Patent number: 6250005
Abstract: A precisely measured removable cover for reusable beverage containers. A covering of independently resilient material is precisely cut to fit a given size and shape of pot, and the material has imprinted on it a desired promotional or advertising message and/or graphics. The covering material is removably fastened with releasable closures to the outside of the pot in such a way as not to impair significantly the natural independent resiliency of the material. Thus, dents in the pot do not generally show in the covering surface because it retains its independent resiliency, even if the blow was delivered through the covering surface. Messages may be changed as often as suits the promotional and decorative needs of the owner of the pot, so the display surface is always timely and in top condition. An optional “window” permits display of interchangeable labels on the inside of the covering.

  • Patent number: 6216942
Abstract: A packaging system for bulk goods or material comprises a hollow polygonal blown plastic form or container for accommodating the material which is to be contained therein. A cardboard cover surrounds and is fixed to the hollow plastic form. The hollow plastic form has at least one outer edge indentation in a corner area, corresponding to a polygonal area of the cardboard cover which can be folded inside for locking or securement purposes, which is symmetrical to a corner fold line of the cardboard cover, and which is connected to the cardboard cover by at least one stamped line arranged perpendicular to the corner fold line and two fold lines forming a V-shape. The packaging system enables secure fastening between the hollow plastic form and the wrapper. To achieve this, the polygonal area of the cover is shaped as a square, and the V-shaped fold lines merge into two stamped lines culminating in a point.

  • Patent number: 6194043
Abstract: A container incorporating post-consumer recycled (“PCR”) plastic and a method of making that type of container. The container utilizes a layer of polypropylene or EVOH or a film of fluorinated polyethylene toward the interior from the recycled plastic to prevent contaminants from the latter entering the container's contents. When utilizing EVOH, the container usually has an additional layer of polyethylene or polypropylene covering the EVOH to prevent its deterioration by moisture. Making the container involves first composing a resin including the recycled plastic. Forming the various layers listed above produces a container that includes recycled plastic and a barrier to limit the migration of contaminants f from the recycled material to the container's contents. This permits the use of the resulting containers for food. For a fluorinated polyethylene film, fluorination can occur either during or after the container's formation.
