Abstract: A child-resistant adult-friendly prescription storage vial is presented with an over-cap which can only be removed from the vial by first orienting the cap at a particular point on the vial and then depressing a pair of push-tabs on the cap. When the cap is properly oriented the push-tabs mechanically operate a pair of locking tabs on the vial which hold the cap in place. The locking tabs are designed so that an extended lip on the tab interlocks with a slit on the cap and can only be removed from the slit when the push-tabs on the cap are manually operated.

Abstract: A child resistant package which includes a container having an open end and single or multiple threads on the external surface of the container adjacent the upper end. A closure having a base wall and a peripheral skirt has an inner surface formed with single or multiple threads corresponding in number to the multiple threads on the container for engaging the threads on the container. A deflectable release element is formed integrally on the container. The release element includes an integral axially deflectable lug extending upwardly toward the open end of the container. The closure has at least one locking lug on the skirt of the closure, the number of locking lugs preferably corresponding to the number of threads on the container and closure.

Abstract: An apparatus for removing a cork from a bottle in which an anchor is embedded in the cork and a cork-pulling handle is provided for engaging the anchor for removal of the cork. The cork-pulling handle can be connected to the anchor by any of several means, and can be stored with the bottle as an integral part of the bottle/label package or provided separately.

Abstract: A closure for a container having a closure lower member and a screw cap in which the closure lower member is connectable with a base member to the container aperture. The closure lower member has a pouring spout connected to the base member. The screw cap has a cap bottom and a cap side wall with an internal thread adapted to be screwed onto and unscrewed from the pouring spout which has an external thread. The cap side wall of the screw cap in a region of its free end face terminates in at least one latching lug, the latching lugs of the screw cap co-operating with latching projections of the closure lower member to form a latch connection. In a screwing on direction the closure lower member has a shallow rising flank which merges into a steep latching flank and also forms the latching connection with the latching lugs, the connection being reversible by displacement of the latching lugs in relation to the latching projections.

Abstract: The injection molded luer cap of the present invention includes a stiff body having a circumferential sleeve extending downward from the body. The sleeve has an inner circumferential surface for sealingly fitting over the exterior surface of the fitment. A solid stem extends downward concentrically within the sleeve. The stem has an outside surface for a slip fit within the bore of the fitment and supports the male luer fitment during heat sterilization.

Abstract: A pill container having a cylindrical body portion, whose diameter is greater than its height, and an upwardly dome-shaped lid with laterally-extending handles to facilitate grasping. The body portion includes an upwardly dome-shaped bottom surface so that a plurality of these pill containers can be stacked on top of one another.

Abstract: A child-resistant product dispenser includes a container having an open neck. A cap having an opening is rotatably supported by the neck of the container in closed and locked condition. One of the neck and cap includes at least a first trackway and the other of the neck and cap includes at least a first projection sized to be received in and travel in the trackway. In its closed and locked position the cap can be manually rotated around the neck of the bottle. Upon a predetermined orientation of the cap with respect to the neck, the projection is aligned with the trackway permitting the cap to be axially displaced with respect to the container to permit the container contents to be removed through the opening in the cap.

Abstract: A closure stopper for a dispensing cartridge is withdrawn from the dispensing opening by a screw ring. An extension piece of the stopper projects over the screw ring. A disk or similar component is detachably connected to the extension piece and to the screw ring to pull the stopper when the screw ring is moved away from the dispensing cartridge.

Abstract: A cap assembly is fitted to a bottleneck, and is provided with a sleeve for fitting to the bottleneck. The sleeve is provided with a non-drip pouring spout whereby the liquid can be poured from the bottle through the sleeve and spout. A closure cap member is fitted to the sleeve in a secure manner. Before a cap portion of the closure cap member can be removed to permit the pouring of the liquid, a tear band must first be removed from the closure cap member, thereby providing tamper resistance. Additionally, the cap portion must be aligned with the sleeve before it can be removed, thereby providing child resistance.

Abstract: A child-resistant container closure constructed according to the present invention comprises a disk shaped cover plate attached to body section formed as a substantially cylindrical wall. A movable handle or tab is attached to the cover plate to aid a user in pulling the closure from a container in which the closure is installed. A well or recess is provided in cover plate to house the handle in a closed position. A ridge on the end of the handle cooperates with a mating ridge in the wall of the recess to retain the handle in a closed position. A resilient spring is provided in the recess so that when the handle is released from the recess, it is urged into a position in which it may be conveniently gripped by a user. An undercut groove or notch is provided on the outside surface of the cylindrical wall adjacent the cover plate. The notch engages a mating lip or ridge extending inward from the inner surface of the mouth of the product container to secure the closure to the product container.

Abstract: A closure is provided for a container having an externally threaded neck and a plurality of locking teeth. The closure has a first outer side wall, a second inner side wall, and projections within the outer side wall for engaging the locking teeth of the container, to prevent removal by children and the like. The outer side wall can be distorted to displace the locking projections, for opening the container. For forming a seal with the neck of a container, one or both of a textured finish on an annular sealing surface within the second inner side wall, and an internal sealing lip are provided. This eliminates the requirement for a separate sealing liner.

Abstract: A child resistant attachment for containers used for storing and dispensing potentially dangerous materials, such as medicament tablets or the like, the attachment being resistant to opening by children but readily openable by adults, particularly adults having impaired manual dexterity of their hands and/or fingers. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the attachment comprises a finish portion including thread ring with an integrally molded annular tab ring or collar generally concentric to the thread ring and a closure which is releasably secured to the thread ring by means of complementary screw threads. The tab ring or collar preferably includes a pair of resiliently deformable spring-like pushtabs containing vertical extensions which engage interlocking pawls on the innermost surface of the closure skirt when the closure is fully assembled onto the finish portion.

Abstract: A flask is closed by a closing device comprising a closing cap cooperating with the neck of the flask. The device includes two open ramps diametrically opposite provided on the neck of the flask and in the center of which is formed an axially extending projection, the closing cap including a cylindrical skirt formed inside with two diametrically opposite latching studs and each carrying a housing which cooperates with one of the projections.

Abstract: A container having a child resistant closure which is secured by an internal latch and is openable by application of opposing pinching forces to the sides of the container to cause the sides to flex inwardly and thereby release the latch. The closure is provided with child resistance by the provision of stiffening ribs on the closure which direct flexing in one direction to provide release of the container latch and by the provision of tabs which serve to distract the child's attention and encourage application of pressure at a position on the container which will not release the closure.

Abstract: A screw top closure comprising a screw lid (10) with internal threading and a separate lid attachment (11) with external threading. The lid attachment (11) is designed for application on the neck (12) of a container (13) to carry the removable lid, the lid attachment (11) being in the form of an annular element with an upper part (14) serving as support for the lid (10), and two concentric tubular flanges (15, 16) protruding downwardly therefrom. These flanges between them in downward direction define an open pocket (17) for receipt of the neck (12) of the container (13).

Abstract: A single finger-opening resilient safety closure cap for use by arthritic sufferers needing quick and easy access into medication receptacles. The cap has a top wall and rim which fully covers and is pressure fitted in the opening of the receptacle. A finger-receiving well is formed into the top wall which when engaged and pushed permits enough deformation to release the rim of the cap from the opening.

Abstract: A stoppering device non-removably attached to the flanged neck of a container has a base (8) projecting beyond the neck of the container, with at least two arcuate surface sections extending from the base and disposed along a circle having a diameter slightly greater than that of the outer surface of the flanged neck (5). Each arcuate surface section (16) is extended on at least one of its sides in the circumferential direction by a locking foot (17). Each foot is integral with the arcuate surface at the end of the section opposite to the base (8) and is inclined inward from the end integral with the arcuate surface section (16) to a free end of the foot located toward the base (8). Each foot abuts the flanged neck (5) and holds the stoppering device securely onto the container.

Abstract: An apparatus for use in catching fish having a container with a threaded opening at one end, a closure having opposed first and second ends both of which are internally threaded to be threadably receivable on the container opening, the closure having an intermediate wall between the two threaded ends, an elongated rod member extending from the closure member wall, a fishing line having a fishhook at one end, the other end being attached to the closure member and the line being windable upon the elongated rod member so that when the line is wound on the rod member, the rod member can be inserted and contained within the container, but when used for fishing the rod member extends externally of the container and the line having a fishhook thereon is unwound so that the container provides flotation for the line and hook.

Abstract: A one-piece closure includes a bottom member adapted to engage over the neck portion of a container and a top lid member that rotates between a closed position where it engages the mouth of the bottom member and an open position on an integral hinge. An elongate arm includes a distal end hook that engages a ledge on the top lid to hold the top lid open but, when depressed allows the top lid to be opened. The elongate arm can only be depressed by using the thumb or a finger and the top lid cannot be grasped except be the area hidden by the elongate hook.

Abstract: An improved child resistant closure for a container comprises a base fixedly securable to the container, the base having an orifice communicating with an opening defined by the neck of the container and a first engaging means, a cover having a second engaging means, one of the cover and the base having a deformable portion, such that the cover is moveable between a closed position wherein the cover obturates the orifice in the base and wherein the first and second engaging means are engaged for retaining the cover in the closed position, and an open position when the orifice is exposed for dispensing the contents from the container, the cover being moveable to the open position by deforming the deformable portion which serves to disengage the first and second engaging means.

Abstract: A tamper resistant container that can be readily opened by an elderly person but is difficult for a young child to open comprising a container for holding toxic substances with the container having a latch lip for engaging a cover and a pressure region located at the top of the container and over the latch lip, and a cover for engaging the container to close and seal toxic substances in the container with the container including a slip ring to permit free rotation of the container when the cover on the container is rotated to thereby thwart a young child from opening the tamper resistant container with the cover including a cylindrical lip to latch the cover to the container with the cylindrical lip operable for disengagement of the cover with the container by the user squeezing on a specific region on the outside of the container so that the container flexes inward to disengage the cylindrical lip from the container to thereby permit the user to remove the cover from the container.

Abstract: A hinged dispensing closure of unitary molded construction is disclosed which may be readily opened by an adult using one hand. A narrow slot of short length is molded near the periphery of the top wall of the snap-hinged cover cap opposite its hinged connection to the main closure. The sidewall of the cover cap includes axially extending parallel score lines from near its skirt edge to the ends of the slot to define a tab. Pressing by the thumb on the tab while holding the package in the same hand ruptures the scores and deflects the tab inwardly for ready access to an exposed edge of the formed slot; and pressure on the edge opens the cover cap. The deflected tab is held by an internal cam wall inwardly of the slot, which indicates that the package is opened when the tab is held in this deflected position. A second embodiment provides a hook and latch locking means between the main closure and cover cap opposite the hinge.

Abstract: A dispensing closure molded with a polypropolyene or other plastic material having a base cup with a dispensing orifice in its top and a lid hinged to the cap for closing the orifice. The lid is recessed in the base cap and has projecting tabs which are pushed to release detent locks so that the lid may be swung to an open, dispensing position. Arcuate slots through the lid, in line with the tabs, allow sufficient deflection of the lid to unlock the the detents.

Abstract: The closure assembly comprises a first cap portion hingedly connected to a second cap portion adapted to be positioned over the mouth of an associated container and including an aperture to permit dispensing from the container. The first cap portion is arranged so that in one position it overlies the aperture to close the container, and in another position is lifted clear of the aperture to open the container. The cap portions together include means so that they can be snapped together and their separation from a closed to an open position requires the exertion of a positive force by the user and the first cap portion includes at its periphery opposite its hinged connection with the second cap portion a lip which co-operates with an inwardly displaceable section of the second cap portion.

Abstract: A child resistant dispensing closure of the type comprising a cap member and a spout member. The cap member is provided with an exterior skirt, a top surface having an elongated groove formed therein, and an interior skirt. The interior skirt is provided with a cap locking bead adapted to engage a container locking bead provided on the neck of a container for rotatably mounting the cap member on the neck of the container. The elongated groove has a dispensing opening and an open area formed therein, and the interior skirt is provided with an interruption at the location of the open area so as to maintain the area unobstructed. The container locking bead is also provided with an interruption. The spout member includes an elongated body having a longitudinal dispensing passage therein and adapted to be mounted at one end in the elongated groove for rotation with respect to the cap member. The spout member is provided with a depending locking prong adapted for insertion into the open area.

Abstract: A safety closure for a container having a tubular neck surrounding a passageway having an outlet aperture for pouring contents from the container, the safety closure comprising a cap in the form of an inverted cup having an outer peripheral wall and an inner peripheral wall concentric with the outer peripheral wall spaced apart inwardly a short distance radially of about an eighth of an inch. A closure wall extends across the top having a closure tab hinged at one end for pivotal movement between an open and closed position. When in the closed position it closes an aperture opening to a central cavity bounded by the inner peripheral wall, the central cavity in turn opening to the open bottom wall of the closure cap for communication with the chamber of the container when the closure cap is in place thereon. The free end of the closure tab terminates at the peripheral edge of the outer peripheral wall and seats in a cut out portion thereof when in the closed position.

Abstract: A child resistant dispensing closure characterized by a closure member and a lid member which is mounted on the closure member for movement between closed and open positions. A peripheral edge of the lid member abuts an annular shoulder provided on the closure member in the closed position, the point of abutment being concealed by an annular ring provided on the closure member. In the closed position, thickened portions provided on the peripheral edge of the lid member engage in recesses formed in the annular shoulder. The lid member is adapted to be moved upwardly from the closed to an open position when a user applies with one hand a manual compressive force to a panel provided on the exterior skirt of the closure member. This manual force results in deformation of the panel inwardly into a slot formed clearly through an enlarged portion of the shoulder.

Abstract: A closure system for threaded containers wherein the closure is of the dispensing type and is child resistant in two aspects. Interengaging lugs on the closure skirt and container neck are so arranged that a squeezing force is required to permit the closure being unthreaded from the container. A dispensing opening in the closure top is closed by a hinged cap that meets with the upper rim of the closure in a parting line. At this parting line both the hinged cap and the top of the closure have matching protruberances that require the squeezing of the lower one in order to push up or release the cap. The plastic material of the cap and the closure are sufficiently strong that a child is unable to flex or squeeze the closure enough to open the cap or unthread the closure from the container.

Abstract: A child resistant dispensing closure of the type comprising a cap base member and a cap lid member. The cap base member is provided with a dispensing opening, a slot, and a cap locking bead adapted to engage a container locking bead provided on the neck of a container. The container locking bead is provided with an interruption which is adapted to be brought into and out of alignment with the slot by manually rotating the cap base member with respect to the neck. The cap lid member is provided with a locking prong adapted to be received within the slot when the cap lid member assumes a closed position wherein it closes off the dispensing opening. The locking prong, when the cap lid member is in the closed position, is adapted to be engaged beneath the continuous portion of the container locking bead.

Abstract: A single finger opening collapsible cap, primarily useful for solid medication receptacle closures, includes a first finger-receiving well and a second contractably-biasing well which move relative to one another upon insertion of a single finger within the first finger-receiving well, enabling locking projections disposed on the cap to disengage with a closure opening. The cap is made from a flexible resilient material formed in a one-piece molding operation, and is particularly useful for adults afflicted with arthritis and prevents children from unauthorized access into containers employing this type of closure.

Abstract: This invention comprises a two part closure, for a container, comprising a top cap hingedly connected to an inner cap which is adapted to be semi-permanently positioned over the mouth of an associated container, a depending skirt on the inner cap and a trigger forming part of the skirt of the inner cap, actuation of the trigger normally being prevented by engagement of the trigger with an arcuate bead on the outside of the associated container whereby the trigger forms a locking means to hold the top cap in its closed position until the closure is angularly displaced relatively to the container into a predetermined position in which the trigger is unlocked and can be actuated manually to release the top cap for opening.

Abstract: A bottle with a neck (1) has a child-resistant screw closure cap (13). In order to make the cap (13) child-resistant, the neck (1) is fitted with a collar (7) of U-shaped cross-section. The collar (7) is retained on the neck (1) by engagement of pawls (11) inside a portion (8) of the collar under a retaining ring (2) on the neck (1). The cap (13) is screwed onto the part (8) of the collar and to allow this to be done, the collar (7) is prevented from rotating on the neck (1) by engagement of the pawls (11) with ratchet teeth (4) on the outside of the neck (1). The pawls (11) and the ratchet teeth (4) are so shaped that if an attempt is made to unscrew the cap (13) merely by turning it in a counter-clockwise direction as seen from above, the pawls (11) ride over the ratchet teeth (4) so that the collar (7) is lifted on the neck (1) and is free to rotate.

Abstract: A tamper evident squeeze tube is provided which comprises an elongated tube having flexible walls which is sealed at one end. An end cap is provided at the other end which comprises a neck having an opening therein to the interior of the tube and a frangible sealing member mounted across the opening for sealing the opening and indicating tampering with the contents therein. A coacting cap is provided which is adapted to mount to the exterior of the neck. Preferably, the sealing member is a flexible dome shaped member which is frangibly and integrally connected to the neck and has a tab attached to the exterior of the dome for removing the sealing member.

Abstract: A drainport closure device particularly suitable for a motor vehicle radiator drain valve. The device is composed of a housing and plug member. The housing communicates with a fluid containing vessel at one end and the other end receives the plug. The plug has one or more flexing arms which may be compressed to permit the plug to be moved between two positions within the housing. In the first position an "O"-ring seal carried by the plug prevents fluid drainage whereas when the plug is repositioned to a second position, fluid drainage occurs.

Abstract: A child-resistent, moisture-tight safety closure having an end wall with an annular depending skirt, the skirt having a plurality of locking lugs disposed on the inside thereof. The locking lugs cooperate with retaining notches adjacent to the open mouth of an associated container to releasably retain the closure on the container. A sealing plug integral with the end wall of the closure and concentric with the annular skirt effects a moisture-tight seal with the inner wall of the container. A plurality of resilient members are integral with the interior of the closure at the junction of the top wall and the skirt, the resilient members extending downwardly and inwardly so as to engage the end surface of the container opening. The compression of the resilient members serves to bias the locking lugs on the closure into locking relationship with the retaining notches on the container with a force sufficient to ensure the child-resistant characteristics of the closure.

Abstract: A child resistant closure construction for one end of a container, such as a cylindrical container. A removable plug normally closes a dispensing opening at one end of the container, the plug provided with a radially extending ear. The plug and ear are so configured that removal of the plug by a child is difficult because there is no easy method to firmly manually grasp any portion of the plug. A raised abutment is integrally carried by the end closure of the container. Upon rotation of the closure plug to a certain angular position, the ear strikes the abutment and the ear tilts away from the container interior to thereby enable it to be grasped and pulled to remove the closure plug.

Abstract: A closure for a container includes a closed top, a peripheral skirt and an integral engagement portion which extends from the closure top having an outer sidewall which is spaced radially inwardly from the inner sidewall of the skirt a distance sufficient such that the container neck is receivable in the space therebetween. A mechanism is provided by which the engagement portion is expanded radially outwardly either during or after the application of the closure to the container to urge the sidewall of the engagement portion tightly into engagement with the inner sidewall of the container neck to provide a friction locking and/or hermetic sealing of the closure to the container. In another embodiment, locking means are provided on the inner sidewall of the closure skirt which allows the closure to be twisted onto the container but which prevents the closure from being twisted in the opposite direction thereby locking the closure onto the container.

Abstract: A child proof medicine vial is provided having a bead for mating in a recess in a flange in the cap whereby the cap is tightly secured to the vial. The cap is provided with a recess and complimentary slots and inner chamber whereby a panel may be slidable into and out of the cap. When the panel is fully inserted in the cap, there are no projections on the cap for facilitating removal of the cap from the vial. When fully retracted from the cap, the panel permits the user to raise the cap thus permitting access to the vial. When fully retracted, the panel may have indicia to the effect that the vial is nonchild proof. An integral hinge is provided between the cap and vial so that the cap may be flipped away from, yet attached to, the vial.

Abstract: A one-piece molded thermoplastic child-resistent dispensing closure in which the dispensing opening in the closure is sealed by the downwardly extending projection of a locking flap that is foldably attached to an edge of the closure, in which the top of the closure comprises a recess to receive the sealing flap when it is in its closing position and in which the portion of the recess which is adjacent the free end of the locking flap is deeper than the thickness of the locking flap so that the free end of the locking flap can be depressed within the recess to facilitate the opening of the closure. Certain embodiments are described in which the locking flap is provided with a downwardly depending tab which is received in a recess in the skirt of the closure when the locking flap is in the closed position and which is deflected outwardly from the recess by the depression of the locking flap into the recess in the top of the closure to further facilitate the opening of the closure.

Abstract: A moisture proof vial and closure system are provided which may be used in a child-resistant mode or in a non-child resistant mode. In the child-resistant mode locking lugs 22 on the closure are interlocked with bayonnet slots on the vial. A non-child resistant operation in a moisture proof system may be achieved by providing an integral sealing plug 21 extending from the top of the closure and by adding a detenting means 51 inside of the container to engage and hold the sealing plug 21 against sliding outwardly of the container. A simple push inward will force the sealing plug 21 home to its sealing position to seal the medicine in the vial, and a simple push or pull on the closure to force the fitment from the detenting means is needed to remove the closure. The preferred detenting means 51, 15 is in the form of radially inwardly directed projections 52 formed on the interior container wall to abut and restrain the sealing plug against inadvertent sliding from the container.

Abstract: A package closure includes a stopper adapted to be sealingly engageable with the opening of the package. The closure also includes a frangible member adapted to simultaneously seal the opening and carry the stopper in a disengaged position relative to the opening. Preferably, the stopper is engageable with the package opening in a child-proof manner. Breaking of the frangible member permits the child-proof package to be initially opened without requiring the package user to struggle with the child-proof stopper. The package contents may then be transferred to a package not having child-proof sealing means. Easy access to the contents of the package by the elderly or handicapped is thereby promoted.

Abstract: A tamper indicating closure including an outer cap and an inner liner which relies on relative movement of the outer cap and the inner liner during opening movement to indicate tampering of the container after it has been sealed for the first time, the relative movement being insured by a means which coact with the container to resist rotation of the liner and maintain the container in a sealed condition while the outer cap is being rotated in an opening direction. Once opened, the outer cap and the inner liner are maintained in a position for movement as a unit in both the opening and closing direction of the closure.

Abstract: Child-resistant closure comprises a closure neck with an opening surrounded by an inner and an outer wall and a closure cap with a skirt matingly engaged by the inner wall and extending to the outer wall, the outer wall including a deformable segment to permit inward finger deformation and upward pressure on the underside of the lip of the closure cap, with improvements comprising reinforcement means in the closure cap and/or closure neck to prevent radial deformation of the closure in the area of the opening, other than at the preselected outer wall deformable segment location. Preferably, the reinforcement means comprises radially disposed ribs associated with the closure cap and also radially disposed ribs extending between the inner and outer walls of the closure neck surrounding the opening thereof.

Abstract: A safety container and closure assembly including an integrally-molded, one-piece plastic cap having a sealing portion which provides an "oil-can" effect during axial and rotative motion of the cap relative to the container. The sealing portion comprises a relatively thin, radially outwardly curved wall which is integrally joined to a relatively stiff annular base portion from which a peripheral skirt portion axially projects for receiving the mouth of the container. Integrally formed with the sealing portion is a relatively thin, annular biasing portion which, in turn, is integrally formed with a relatively stiff, inner, disc-like base portion. The biasing portion biases the sealing portion to axially spaced positions such that when the cap is placed on the container, the biasing portion biases the cap in a fixed axial sealing position relative to the container and simultaneously applies pressure to the sealing portion.

Abstract: A reversible child resistant closure having a child resistant and a non-child resistant mode of use. The closure is characterized by its low profile and tab that extends outwardly from the closure; this tab being engageable from below when closure is rotated into the appropriate position on the container. An upwardly extending relatively low annular rib is provided on the roof of the closure which serves as the means by which the closure is engaged by the container neck when the closure is inserted into the container neck in its non-child resistant mode.
