Patent number: 5464109Abstract: A device to prevent the unauthorized removal of a closure from the mouth of a bottle having an annular ring adjacent to the mouth about the bottle neck. A cap portion fits over the end of the bottle neck and receives within it the annular ring, the bottle mouth and the closure. A locking mechanism housing is formed adjacent the cap and communicates with the bore in the cap by means of a slot. In a first embodiment a pawl means is pivotally mounted in the housing and is spring biased to extend through the slot into the bore. A second embodiment uses a cam controlled spring mechanism to slideably position pawl means in the cap portion or withdraw it therefrom. A tapered leading edge of the pawl means causes the pawl to be displaced into the housing as the annular ring of the bottle passes the pawl. The spring forces the pawl in behind the ring to prevent removal of the cap.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1994Date of Patent: November 7, 1995Inventor: Kenneth Greenwald

Patent number: 5437382Abstract: A container having a removable stopper located within the neck of the container and a cap with a handle disposed over the neck. The cap, when removed and inverted, also functions as a tool or driver for removing the stopper. The handle assists persons with impaired dexterity in opening the container, and while a child may likewise remove the cap, the contents cannot be accessed and will not spill out because the stopper is still disposed in the neck. Further, the stopper being disposed within the neck places it out of the grasping ability of the child making it very difficult to remove without using the handle as a tool. The cap also has a tab or tabs on its inside, so that when the cap is removed and inverted, the previously external handle or tab is used as the driver blade and the previously internal tab or tabs are used as a driver handle.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1994Date of Patent: August 1, 1995Inventor: Jerome D. Patent number: 5386924Abstract: A cap member for fitment over a gas outlet nozzle having a plurality of serrations on the exterior thereof, is disclosed. The cap member comprises a peripherally disposed main body portion having an inner surface and an outer surface, the inner surface defining a nozzle receiving recess, an open first end, a generally closed second end, and a lock member. The lock member has a projecting lock portion movable between a first locking position and a second unlocking position. When the projecting lock portion is in the first locking position, the projecting lock portion projects into the nozzle receiving recess so as to be in interfering relation with one of the plurality of serrations on the exterior of the gas outlet nozzle, so as to thereby lock the cap member in place and preclude the cap member from being removed from the nozzle.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1994Date of Patent: February 7, 1995Inventors: Frank J. Patent number: 5158194Abstract: A child-resistant, two-piece closure is formed with a resilient wedge in the outer cap member which can be pressed into interlocking relationship with an upstanding locking lug element of the inner cap member to facilitate rotational movement in the closure loosening direction by a healthy adult. An aperture is provided in the outer cap member so that a pencil may be radially inserted therein and into contact with the upstanding locking lug element so as to interlockingly couple the outer cap member and inner cap member for rotational movement in the closure loosening direction with the pencil by an elderly or handicapped individual. The child-resistant closure serves as a duel function device by allowing push-in and turn closure removal by healthy adults and easy removal with an inserted pencil or the like by elderly or handicapped adults while still being resistant to removal by young children.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1991Date of Patent: October 27, 1992Assignee: Glaxo Inc.Inventors: Mark A.
