Patent number: 5524782Abstract: At the top of a bottle the circumferential bead lying between the cap fastening means and the neck is enlarged in diameter to better meet the enlarged diameter of an oversize cap such as a two piece "child-resistant" cap. The undercut below the bead forming the neck is greatly exaggerated. The circumferential bead is located lower on the top to better fit the extended skirt length of the outer cap of the two piece "child-resistant" cap. A circumferential shoulder is added above the bead to substantially match the skirt length and diameter of a standard cap. Regardless of whether a "child-resistant" cap or a standard cap is used, the plastic shrink-fit band tightly fits about the cap and over and underneath the circumferential bead. The loosening of either "child resistant" or standard cap will force the splitting of the band because the shrinkage of the band below the circumferential bead is considerably greater than the innate circumferential elongation of the shrunk plastic band material.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 1994Date of Patent: June 11, 1996Assignee: Brit CorporationInventor: Tony Salemi

A stopper adapted to be secured to an open end of the flask (12) is provided having an opening (32) through which a tube (34) extends. A clamping mechanism (40) is connected to the tube (34) to secure the probe (14) to the stopper. The clamping mechanism (40) comprises a first flange (44), and a second opposing flange (46) spaced slightly apart from the first flange (44). An O-ring (50) positioned around the flanges (44, 46) causes them to flex inward to engage and secure the probe (14) between them.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 1994Date of Patent: September 5, 1995Assignee: FTS Systems, Inc.Inventors: Douglas S. Fraser, Taylor N. Thompson

Patent number: 5379898Abstract: Self-breakable ampoule (1) of the "bottle" type allowing for the easy flow of the product contained in the ampoule. The neck zone (4) of the ampoule is covered at the prebreaking line (7) by a sleeve (10) of plastic material (preferably heat-shrinking plastic) comprising an extension projecting beyond the prebreaking line (7) in the form of a tongue or collar after breakage of the ampoule along the line (7). This extension (10a) has a length d (measured as a projection over the axis of the neck zone) at least equal to 20% of the diameter of the orifice obtained after breakage of the ampoule along the line (7), the plane tangential to the surface forming the extension (10b) in the vicinity of the line (7) forming an angle of less than 60.degree. with the axis X--X.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1993Date of Patent: January 10, 1995Assignee: L'OrealInventor: Gerard Joulia

Patent number: 5292018Abstract: A tamper evident seal and system for use on a variety of container and closure combinations providing a seal across the juncture of the container and closure and positive indication to consumers of tampering with the seal. The seal comprises a heat shrink band to which is applied at least one strip of a heat activated adhesive extending perpendicularly to the band's circumference and along the full length of the band. Perforations are provided along either edge to permit separation of the majority of the band from that portion to which the adhesive is applied. Indicia are provided on the band and on the container to indicate the presence or absence of the band. Application of the band to the container by heating causes the band to shrink into tight conformance with the container and closure obscuring the indicia thereon and bringing the adhesive into engagement with the container and closure.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1992Date of Patent: March 8, 1994Inventor: Frank P. Travisano

Patent number: 5217307Abstract: This invention provides tamper-safety labeling that can easily be applied to a container and closure means to disclose the opening of the container. This labeling is a single piece one that has a generally parallel perforated tear strip and tab formed from the face stock and that allows the tear strip and usually perforated member to be formed and laminated to a release liner having a release thereon at least commensurate with adhesive positioned in the laminate on each side of the tear strip in the face stock. Also, the tear strip may run at any angle from the horizontal plane of the container to permit the tear strip to be removed to present different arrangements of the labeling on the container and may become a product or origin identification for the container.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1991Date of Patent: June 8, 1993Assignee: Morgan Adhesives CompanyInventor: Jack M. McClintock

Patent number: 5181632Abstract: A twist-on/twist-off dispenser cap, of a type normally used for dispensing mustard or ketchup, comprises a bottom cap portion which screws onto a cooperating container and a generally cone-shaped spout portion which is captively held by a screw-type arrangement on the bottom cap portion. Rotation of the spout portion with respect to the bottom cap portion allows an orifice at the tip of the spout portion to be either opened or closed. A relatively wide annular flange at the base of the spout portion fits into a corresponding shallow recess in the top of the bottom portion of the dispenser cap. The flange and a plurality of spaced circumferential ridges at the periphery of the flange allow excellent gripping of a shrink-wrap seal to make the dispenser cap tamper-proof. The container onto which the dispensing cap is screwed has a circumferential collar adjacent a threaded neck portion. Two series of notches on opposing sides of the collar define intervening protuberances.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1991Date of Patent: January 26, 1993Assignee: Morehouse Foods, Inc.Inventor: David L.
