  • Patent number: 5328474
Abstract: A tamper-resistant closure for a medical injection device such as a syringe includes a cap having both a blind bore sized to receive and seat tightly against the syringe tip, to prevent material from entering or being withdrawn from the device. The cap has a threaded connection to the syringe tip, and is entirely covered by a loose-fitting shield having a one-way drive mechanism which prevents the cap from being unscrewed from the device while the shield is in place. The shield has at least one internal, frangible tang protruding obliquely into the envelope of the cap, so that the shield and cap can be easily assembled, but cannot thereafter be disassembled without breaking the tang and thus providing an indication of tampering.

  • Patent number: 4798300
Abstract: A bottle includes a mouth and a neck adjoining the mouth. The neck has helical ribs on the outside to permit application of a peripherally indented, screw-on crown. The main body of the bottle has a base, which is provided with an upward recess. A plurality of inwardly projecting ribs is provided around the periphery of the recess, each rib being convexly rounded and devoid of points, and having two concavely rounded shoulder portions on either side, so that stress concentration is minimized. The recess is sized to receive a peripherally indented crown of the same size as that receivable on the neck, so that the ribs register in at least some of the peripheral indentations. Thus, one bottle can serve as a crown remover for another, without a significant risk that the ribs will break or crack.

  • Patent number: 4252249
Abstract: A threaded lid for closing the opening in a pump housing having a body portion and a gripping formation defined by a ridge on the body portion having a central portion and projections extending beyond the central portion. A juncture between the central portion and each of the projections varies gradually from a rounded angle at one terminus of the juncture to a gently sloping ramp at the other terminus of the juncture, so that a simple elongated tool such as a stick may be placed between the projections of the gripping formation and rotated to loosen the lid, but not to tighten it. Furthermore, the mildly curved S-shape provides surfaces which conform to the hand to enable substantial manual loosening force to be applied comfortably to the lid, whereas the surfaces of the gripping formation engaged by the hand to tighten the lid are not conducive to the application of a substantial amount of manual force.

  • Patent number: 4172532
Abstract: A closure assembly for a bottle or container which has a cylindrical neck portion and a lid with a skirt. The lid skirt is detachably fitted to the neck portion by cooperating beads on it and a cylindrical collar which is securely mounted on the neck portion by transverse members. The collar is disposed at a radial distance from the neck portion and encloses at least part of the skirt. The transverse members are adapted to cooperate in a camming manner with one or more projections on the skirt so that turning of the fitted lid relatively to the neck portion results in an axial displacement of the lid. The lid is constructed to be turned by an implement such as a T-shaped handle key or a coin. For this a slot can be provided disposed along a diameter. The inside of the lid can be formed with projecting wall members defining an inwardly closed cavity around the slot with shape of a narrow cylindrical section.

  • Patent number: 4056209
Abstract: A child proof medication bottle including a female, interiorly threaded opening adapted for dispensing medication in pill form or similar use, provided with a male, externally threaded cap, inserted into the female opening. On insertion, the male cap or plug is received within the opening to a depth wherein only a hemispherical projection is exposed outside the confines of the bottle. This smooth hemispherical projection lacks the necessary grasping surfaces for withdrawal thereof and is thus rendered child proof. The bottom end of the bottle is similarly shaped in the form of a hemisphere adapted for receipt in the interior of the cylindrical key structure provided with a flat end for upright support and including two key elements insertable into corresponding slots formed in the hemispherical surface of the cap. Thus the cylindrical key structure may be utilized to open providing a reminder to the user to return the key to its stored position.

  • Patent number: 3970207
Abstract: A plastic stopper is used for small-diameter bottle necks such as are conventionally closed by corks. A top disk is annular in that a central hole is formed and below the disk is a pocket having an inside diameter coinciding with the central hole. The pocket is closed at the bottom. The pocket is dimensioned to receive a standard corkscrew with a tight enough grip to permit the stopper to be drawn. The disk also has a peripheral depending skirt having an outside diameter such that it fits tightly in the bottle neck. The lower outer edge of the skirt is tapered to facilitate seating. An annular space below the disk between the skirt and the pocket affords flexibility to the stopper for seating and pulling and also can be partially filled with liquid to reduce the amount of air in the headspace of the bottle.

  • Patent number: 3945526
Abstract: A cap, which in addition to serving to removably seal a container, also acts as a carrier for torque-applying means that permit the cap to be released from a stuck position. The cap of the present invention is particularly well adapted for use on containers holding a lacquer based fingernail polish, although not restricted to such use. Caps on containers holding a lacquer base fingernail polish are notorious for tending to remain in a stuck position thereon, and to such an extent that pliers must be used to grip the cap and initially rotate the latter relative to the container on which it is mounted.
