  • Patent number: 5443868
Abstract: A blow-molded multi-layer plastic container having excellent surface luster which is obtained by blow-molding, as an outer surface of the container, an olefin resin which has fluidity properties satisfying the following formulas (1) and (2),log .tau..ltoreq.n log .gamma.+5.15 (1)andlog.tau..gtoreq.n log .gamma.+4.95 (2)wherein,.tau. is a shearing stress (dynes/cm.sup.2) as measured using a capillary rheometer in accordance with a flow property testing method (JIS K 7199), .gamma. is a shearing rate (sec.sup.-1) as measured by the same method, n is a number of from 0.39 to 0.41, and .gamma. lies from 9.times.10.sup.1 to 1.2.times.10.sup.3 sec.sup.-1.The blow-molded multi-layer plastic container does not develop sharkskin or flow marks. Moreover, melt-treatment of the outer surface of the blow-molded article eliminates rugged pattern that stems from the sand-blasted surfaces of the metal mold.

  • Patent number: 5427258
Abstract: A freestanding container base having an improved combination of properties in regard to creep resistance, stress crack resistance, impact strength, weight, standing stability and formability. The container base has a substantially hemispherical bottom wall which includes four radiating ribs, and four legs extending downwardly from the bottom wall between the ribs and each of which terminates in a foot. Each rib has a rib wall forming part of the substantially hemispherical bottom wall and having an angular extent of from about 15.degree. to about 30.degree. for enhanced strength, with the leg occupying the remaining 75.degree. to 60.degree. angular extent for enhanced formability. The outer edge and angular extent of the foot are predetermined for enhanced stability and ease of formability. Preferably, the creep resistance is further enhanced by straightening the upper rib portion or providing an enlarged-diameter truncated bottom wall.

  • Patent number: 5419936
Abstract: Bottles can be made, especially by extrusion stretch blow moulding, using a thermoplastic polymer composition comprising a polymer, preferably a polyester, which contains metal particles especially of sb, which intrinsically absorb radiation in the wavelength region 500 nm to 2000 nm, in a quantity such that the reheat time of the polymer is less than the reheat time of the polymer in the absence of that quantity of particles. A method of making such metal containing polymer compositions by reducing a metal compound in situ is also described.

  • Patent number: 5417337
Abstract: A reusable collapsible container includes a bottom wall and a relatively flexible, peripheral side wall extending upwardly from the bottom wall, the side wall movable between axially extended and collapsed positions. The side wall includes lower and upper relatively thicker portions and an intermediate relatively thinner portion, and the upper portion joins with an annular rim adapted to receive a removable cap. The intermediate side wall portion is tapered radially inwardly and downwardly, and the lower side wall portion is tapered radially outwardly and downwardly substantially to the bottom wall, such that in a collapsed position, the lower side wall portion is partially telescoped within the upper side wall portion, with the intermediate portion reverse folded therebetween.
