    Abstract: A bottle cap assembly, comprising a main portion, and a lid. The main portion and lid are attached by a hinge. The main portion is selectively secured to the lid with a latch, the latch opposite the hinge. The main portion has a central bore, and the hinge has a plug which fits in the central bore when the cap is closed. The central bore has internal grooves, and the plug has protuberances which match the internal grooves to effect a tight seal between the central bore and plug. The main portion further has an upper groove, and the lid has a ring which fits in the upper groove. The ring is larger in diameter and concentric with the plug. At least one opening preventer attaches between the lid and main portion to prevent inadvertant opening of the bottle and for revealing tampering to the bottle, since the opening preventer can be opened once, and then cannot be restored.

    Abstract: A child-resistant container and closure assembly having a container neck with a first screw thread and two first locking elements located below the first screw thread on opposite sides of the container neck. A closure for the container neck has a second screw thread complementary to the first screw thread, a resiliently deformable skirt, and two second locking elements on opposite sides of the resiliently deformable skirt. The first and second locking elements mutually engage in ratchet fashion when the closure is screwed onto a fully engaged position on the container neck and subsequently block unscrewing of the closure unless a radial pressure is applied to the skirt at positions spaced from the locking elements to deform the skirt to release the locking elements. The first and second threads are two-start, fast-turn threads so that the closure can be moved from a substantially fully disengaged position to a substantially fully engaged position on the neck by rotation through about 180.degree. or less.

    Abstract: A threaded type tamper-indicating closure in which the tamper-indicating ring is separated from the cap element of the closure as the closure is opened, in which the tabs which contact an undersurface of a bead on the outer surface of an engaged container finish are prevented from flexing radially inwardly beyond a limited degree so as to assure that the tabs will function immediately as the closure commences unthreading. In the disclosed embodiment, this is accomplished by positioning the pivot axis of the tabs in substantially a common vertical plane therewith, so that the tabs pivot only slightly radially outwardly as they come into contact with the bead. The tamper-indicating ring includes an upper wall member of relatively reduced thickness to enable both bending and flexing radially outwardly during installation to enable the relatively rigid tabs to clear a radially outwardly extending bead on the container neck or finish.

    Abstract: A double ended bottle having two narrow necks at opposed ends of the bottle. Sloped shoulders provide gentle transition between each neck and the full width of the body of the bottle. The bottle is internally open and unobstructed so that a common chamber extends from one opening to the other. Each neck has a threaded cap having two features for sealing against leaks past the cap. In one feature, an internal projection formed in each cap plugs the neck of the bottle. In an alternative embodiment, the neck has a separate adaptor or insert for reducing throat diameter. If this is provided, the projection is accordingly sized. Both the projection and the throat of the insert are beveled for centering the projection within the bore of the insert. The second sealing feature includes an external flange formed on each neck between the threads and the body of the bottle, and a corresponding groove formed in the cap.

    Abstract: A twist-off closure is disclosed for all kinds of containers having a head and a closure cap. The container head has at its top end a sealing lip shaped as a circumferential bead. A steep, multiple-start thread is located below the sealing lip. A fin is arranged between each winding of the steep thread and the container shoulder. The closure cap has a corresponding inner thread that co-operates in the closed state with the fins of the container head causing the closure cap to be clamped, so as to prevent the container from being unintentionally opened by itself. In the closed state, the first part of the windings of the thread of the closure cap engage the fins of the container head, and this is clearly perceived as a pressure point when twisting the cap by hand. All that is required to open and close the closure cap is to twist it through a half turn.

    Abstract: The present invention employs a plastic snap-on cap which engages the neck crown and is internally threaded to engage the neck threads of a conventional container. A foam gasket under the top of the cap prevents leakage by sealing against the neck lip. The cap has internal threads which snap over and then engage under the neck threads. Vertical "barriers" below the cap threads prevent unscrewing the cap so long as the cap skirt is intact. Score lines extend from the bottom edge of the cap skirt to above the internal cap bead which engages the neck crown and extend up to the cap threads. A tear tab is used to tear a vertical strip of the skirt which extends up between the score lines. The cap is thus tamper-evident since it cannot be removed so long as the cap is intact but can be removed by tearing the aforementioned strip. In one modification, a well is formed in the center of the cap.

The container has threads for engaging corresponding threads on the tamper-evident closure. The ramps hold the tamper-evident elements down while the closure is being rotated off of the container. Furthermore, the slant of the ramps actually serves to force the tamper-evident elements downward while the closure is rotated off. This greatly enhances the ease of removal of the tamper-evident closure, thus making the closure far easier to use, without sacrificing the important tamper-evident quality. Furthermore, the accelerated separation of the band from the closure enhances the tamper evidency features of the package by causing band separation upon distortion, before the closure/bottle seal is broken.

    Abstract: For tent-type paperboard containers as well as other containers, a spout fitment is attached surrounding a hole in the container. The fitment spout has internal threads and an external flange which seals around the hole and is fixed to the container by thermal means, adhesive or the like. The cap has a top disk from which an externally threaded skirt depends. The exterior of the skirt has gripping ribs to assist in screwing and unscrewing the cap. The lower edge of the skirt seals against a sealing membrane on the spout. Surrounding the skirt is a tamper-evident band attached to the lower edges of the ribs by frangible bridges. The tamper-evident band has locking means engaging complementary locking means on the fitment. Thus, the cap cannot be unscrewed without removing the tamper-evident band. By unique design, the fitment and cap may be molded in one mold cavity.

When the push button is pushed by the user, the irregularity enters the alignment device such that the cap may be translated parallel to the longitudinal axis of the bottle. The skirt and neck respectively engage one another, so that thereafter the cap may be removed from the bottle.

    Abstract: At the top of a bottle the circumferential bead lying between the cap fastening means and the neck is enlarged in diameter to better meet the enlarged diameter of an oversize cap such as a two piece "child-resistant" cap. The undercut below the bead forming the neck is greatly exaggerated. The circumferential bead is located lower on the top to better fit the extended skirt length of the outer cap of the two piece "child-resistant" cap. A circumferential shoulder is added above the bead to substantially match the skirt length and diameter of a standard cap. Regardless of whether a "child-resistant" cap or a standard cap is used, the plastic shrink-fit band tightly fits about the cap and over and underneath the circumferential bead. The loosening of either "child resistant" or standard cap will force the splitting of the band because the shrinkage of the band below the circumferential bead is considerably greater than the innate circumferential elongation of the shrunk plastic band material.

    Abstract: The present invention employs a plastic snap-on cap which engages both the neck crown of a container having a rectangular body and a neck having screw threads and is internally threaded to engage the neck threads of the conventional container. A foam gasket under the top of the cap prevents leakage by sealing against the neck lip. The cap has internal threads which snap over and then engage under the neck threads. Vertical "barriers" below the cap threads prevent unscrewing the cap so long as the cap skirt is intact. Score lines extend from the bottom edge of the cap skirt to above the internal cap bead which engages the neck crown and extend up to the cap threads. A tear tab is used to tear a vertical strip of the skirt which extends up between the score lines. The cap is thus tamper-evident since it cannot be removed so long as the cap is intact but can be removed by tearing the aforementioned strip. In one modification, a well is formed in the center of the cap.

A first thread is defined by the container and extends at least partially around the opening from a leading end to a trailing end. A second thread is defined by the closure and extends at least partially around the closure form a leading end to a trailing end. A projection is defined adjacent one of the first and second threads. The projection and the one thread define a space between them which is less than the width of the other of the threads. Either the projection or the other thread, or both, are resilient to accommodate deformation during relative rotational movement of the container and closure. When the closure and container are screwed together, the threads are relatively axially displaced from a threadingly engaged condition to a disengaged condition which resists re-engagement.

    Abstract: A blow molded, PET container having a unitarily formed body defining a hollow cavity for receiving a product. The body includes a base, a side wall, a neck finish and a mouth. The neck finish, located at the upper end of the container, is formed from substantially amorphous PET that has been thermally stabilized by a heat treating process. A thread is formed on the neck finish to receive a closure cap. The thread is generally in the form of a raised ridge that spirals at least partially around the neck finish. Spaced interruptions divide the thread into thread segments which reduce the PET needed to form the neck finish. The interruptions reduce the residual stresses in the neck finish and thereby reduce the distortion which occurs in the neck finish during hot filling or hot washing of the container.
