    Abstract: A hinge system for a large or heavy cover member hinged to a container member. A container hinge plate is secured to a side wall of the container member and a cover hinge plate is secured to the side wall of the cover member and rotatably connected to the first hinge means at a hinge pivot means. A gas strut unitary with and pivotably mounted to the container and cover hinge plates raises and lowers the cover member to open and closed positions relative to the container member. The gas strut is pivotably attached to the container and cover hinge plates. A quick connect-disconnect plate removably connected to the cover hinge plate and rotatably connected to the hinge pivot is used to connect or disconnect the container hinge plate from the cover hinge plate and thus to connect or disconnect the cover member to or from the container member and thus connect or disconnect the container member to or from the cover member. The hinge system including the quick connect-disconnect plate can be mounted to a heavy door.

    Abstract: A lightweight, inexpensive, attractive container suitable for shipping, storing and displaying goods is disclosed in which a cover made of card stock, heavy paper or lightweight cardboard is pivotally attached at one end to a dish-like container preferably made of polycarbonate or polyvinylchloride. The body of the cover may be raised and lowered to open and close the container. One or more strut members are movably attached to the cover and are positioned on the cover with at least one end adjacent to a shoulder on the upper part of the container wall. This arrangement provides increased strength. When the cover is raised, the struts are moved into engaging relationship with respect to a slot provided in a container wall to support the cover in a raised displaying orientation. The cover preferably has product information printed thereon regarding the container's content.

    Abstract: A closure control for a storage box or the like having a heavy lid selectively movable between a closed position, wherein the lid closes an upwardly opening receptacle for receiving tools and the like, and an open position wherein the lid extends upwardly from a rear wall of the receptacle to provide facilitated access to the interior thereof. Movement of the closure lid between the closed and opened positions is assisted by a sealed pneumatic spring device. The spring device is arranged to provide a controlled rate of extension. The spring device is mounted within the receptacle in such a manner as to be protected against damage from articles placed into the receptacle. In the illustrated embodiment, the spring is located at the rear corners of a parallelepiped receptacle. In the illustrated embodiment, wall structures are provided adjacent the spring to further protect the spring against injury from articles placed in the receptacle.
