Patent number: 8963038Abstract: The high voltage relay consists of a main body (1). One set of electrical contacts (2a, 2b) upper and lower respectively. High voltage connections to connect the voltage being switched (3a, 3b) are electrically connected to the upper and lower contacts respectively. Several size options for the electrical contacts will allow for a wide range of currents. A cylinder (4) driven by a fluid (e.g. Air, Nitrogen, Hydraulic fluid) moves the electrical contacts together during the ON state of the device. During the OFF state of the device the cylinder moves the electrical contacts apart to isolate the switch voltage. The greater the High Voltage being switched the greater the distance the electrical contacts must be moved apart in the OFF state. The cylinder is supplied the fluid power from a small solenoid (5) on the device. This solenoid has control voltage connections to actuate the device.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2011Date of Patent: February 24, 2015Inventor: Stoss Kommen Pope

Patent number: 7721428Abstract: An electrode assembly for use in a vacuum interrupter is made by joining a first side of a substantially disk-shaped structure to an end of a substantially cylindrical coil segment, and joining an electrical contact to a second side of the disk-shaped structure. The disk-shaped structure has a higher resistivity than a resistivity of the coil segment.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2005Date of Patent: May 25, 2010Assignee: Cooper Technologies CompanyInventors: Paul N. Patent number: 7236071Abstract: A medium voltage vacuum contactor comprising for each pole, a vacuum envelope which contains a fixed contact and a corresponding movable contact; and actuating means providing the energy required to move the movable contacts, characterized in that said actuating means comprise an electromagnetic actuator having: a magnetic yoke which has an inner cavity communicating with the outside through at least a first opening; at least one coil accommodated in the cavity; a movable armature which is operatively connected to at least one movable contact through coupling means, and is mounted axially displaceable in the cavity with at least one end protruding from the first opening; at least one permanent magnet devoted to directly hold the movable armature in two stable positions. Further, there are provided means for guiding the movement of the movable armature which are positioned outside the yoke in correspondence of at least the first opening.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2005Date of Patent: June 26, 2007Assignee: ABB Technology AGInventors: Osvaldo Prestini, Alberto Zulati

Patent number: 6566411Abstract: An integrated process for producing desulfurized hydroprocessed products from Fischer-Tropsch synthesis is disclosed. The process involves isolating and desulfurizing a methane-rich stream from a natural gas source in a first separation zone and a desulfurization zone. The methane-rich stream is converted to syngas and subjected to a hydrocarbon synthesis step, for example, a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis step. The products from the hydrocarbon synthesis step typically include a C4− fraction, a C5-20 fraction, and a C20+ wax fraction. These fractions are isolated in a second separation zone, typically via fractional distillation. The C4− fraction can be recycled through the first separation zone to provide a second methane-rich fraction for conversion to synthesis gas. The C4− fraction can optionally be treated, for example, with hydrotreatment or hydroisomerization catalysts and conditions before or after passage through the first separation zone.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2001Date of Patent: May 20, 2003Assignee: Chevron U.S.A. Patent number: 6414257Abstract: The single-phase circuit-breaker comprises at least one interrupting chamber formed by an insulating tube filled with an insulation gas, and it comprises at least one current transformer whose secondary is disposed in air around the primary at one end of the tube. The primary is at the high voltage electrical potential of the phase and is constituted by an annular metal support. The secondary is subjected to a high voltage electrical potential that is practically equal to the potential of the primary. The current transformer is thus integrated in the circuit-breaker, and the measurement electronics associated with the secondary can be located in air close to the secondary.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2001Date of Patent: July 2, 2002Assignee: AlstomInventors: Bruno Luscan, Alain Libaud, Olivier Grejon

Patent number: 6373675Abstract: In a closing magnetic circuit, when a movable contact is in contact with a fixed contact and a switching device is closed, N and S poles of a permanent magnet attract the fixed member in a direction in which the movable contact is pressed against the fixed contact. In an opening magnetic circuit, when the movable contact is separated from the fixed contact and the switching device is open, one of the N and S poles of the permanent magnet attracts the fixed member in a direction in which the movable contact is separated from the fixed contact. An operating electromagnet winding increases and decreases the magnetism in the closing magnetic circuit and opening magnetic circuit. With this configuration, it is possible to realize an operating apparatus for a switching device using a simple mechanism and assure a stable operation by producing a great contact load.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2000Date of Patent: April 16, 2002Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Toshiharu Yamazaki, Kimiya Sato, Mitsutaka Homma, Yoshinobu Ishikawa, Makoto Taniguchi

Patent number: 5591948Abstract: A vacuum cartridge for a medium voltage electrical switch, as well as a switch incorporating such a cartridge comprising an enclosure closed by two end-plates in which there are housed three contacts extending axially. Two of these contacts are stationary and comprise a disk-shaped contact part and are securely fixed respectively to the two end-plates, whereas the third contact is formed by a rod slidably mounted in the second stationary contact, the rod being brought into contact with the first stationary contact during a period sufficient to generate an electrical arc between the two stationary contacts in order to perform breaking of an electrical circuit. A switch comprises an enclosure filled with sulphur hexafluoride including a cartridge as previously described, two main contacts electrically connected in parallel to the stationary contacts and an operating mechanism connected to selected aformentioned contacts.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1995Date of Patent: January 7, 1997Assignee: Schneider Electric S.A.Inventors: Roger Bolongeat-Mobleu, Frederic Burnaz, Hans Schelleken
