Arcing Contact Patents (Class 218/18)
  • Patent number: 11031204
Abstract: A movable contact arm set for a switching contactor includes first and second movable contact arms which respectively carry first and second movable contacts. The first and second movable contact arms respectively include first and second engagement surfaces which are engagable with an actuation to permit displacement of the first and second movable contacts. The first and second engagement surfaces are asymmetric to one another to permit asynchronous displacement of the first and second movable contacts. A switching contactor, movable contact arm for use with a movable contact arm set, and a method of providing a lead-lag contact opening arrangement for a switching contactor are also provided.

  • Patent number: 10043621
Abstract: A non-linear resistance film including an insulating material and a non-linear resistance material is provided on an inner surface of a grounded tank. The non-linear resistance film is formed to contain a larger amount of the non-linear resistance material on a side of a central conductor than on a side of the grounded tank. Accordingly, a gas insulated switchgear that can suppress partial discharge around metallic foreign matters and also can suppress inflow of charges from the grounded tank to the metallic foreign matters can be provided.

  • Patent number: 8530773
Abstract: When electric discharging occurs inside a gas insulated apparatus in which sulfur hexafluoride is filled, hydrogen-fluoride gas is generated, which abrades a part formed of glass fiber reinforced plastics included in the apparatus. Previously, resin for preventing the abrasion has been coated on the surface of the part; however, a problem has occurred that the coating film peels off. Organic fiber woven cloth woven using organic fiber such as aramid fiber or the like having hydrogen fluoride resistance and mechanical toughness is wrapped around the surface of glass fiber reinforced plastics, and thermosetting resin is wettably impregnated into weave patterns of the organic fiber woven cloth and then heat cured; thereby, an abrasion-preventing protection layer that does not peel off is formed.

  • Patent number: 8232496
Abstract: A switch disconnector is disclosed. The switch disconnector has a main contact point and an arc interruption contact point, of which the main contact point opens before the arc interruption contact point during a disconnection operation and is closed after the arc interruption contact point during connection, with a stationary and a moving contact-piece arrangement, with the stationary contact-piece arrangement having a pot contact piece with contact fingers and with the moving main contact point having a contact cylinder which is connected to a contact mount, and with the arc interruption point having a contact pin as the stationary contact piece and an annular contact piece as the moving contact piece. The contact pin has a section composed of interruption-resistant material, whose external diameter is greater than the external diameter of the rest of the pin area. The contact pin has at least one slot which runs in the longitudinal direction and splits the pin into at least two pin fingers.

  • Patent number: 8106326
Abstract: A valley section is provided between a high-voltage arc contact and a high-voltage main contact. Because of the presence of the valley section, resistance between contacts is reduced while a moving arc contact makes contact with the high-voltage arc contact and then slides up to making contact with the high-voltage main contact.

  • Patent number: 7078642
Abstract: Rapid arc extinguishing devices for air break switches have a whip with at least an end portion of nonmetallic material such as fiber reinforced plastic with a conductive path on its surface. The nonmetallic material is a single tapered rod or an assembly of a plurality of rods successively inserted into an outer rod. The conductive path on the whip is of various individual and combination forms of which some include a metal braid, foil, sheath or wound wire. Particular forms of the conductive path on the rod have enhanced durability and arc resistance at the areas of the whip most likely to be subject to arcing with a latch of the device upon switch opening or closing. Further forms of the whip are a combination in which an end portion as described is attached to an all metal base portion that is arranged to include a portion of the whip subject to arcing on switch closing. Another form of device has a latch engaging a whip at a rotating wheel on the latch.

  • Patent number: 6392181
Abstract: Rapid arc extinguishing devices for air switches are provided with a whip element of strong nonmetallic material, such as of a fiber reinforced plastic or polymer material, with a conductive path, e.g., by metalizing. The whip element can replace the formerly used metal whip in quick break devices for faster separation with less chance of arc restriking and facilitates achieving higher current and voltage ratings.

  • Patent number: 6100492
Abstract: A wreath of contact fingers (4) directed radially toward a switching axis (1) presses in the closed position against the circumferential surface of a contact pin (2) with consumable heads (5) fitted on the ends. At an angle of approximately 90.degree., the contact fingers (4) adjoin webs (6) which are guided in the closing direction up to a housing part (7) at which they are permanently anchored and via which they connect the contact fingers (4) to an electric terminal. The webs (6) and--with the exception of the consumable heads (5)--the contact fingers (4) are produced in one piece from springy material of high conductivity. The contact with the contact pin (2) radially deflects the consumable heads (5) in the closing direction with elastic bending of the webs (6). The length (R) of the radial contact fingers and the length (L) of the axial webs (6) are selected such that the attraction of the parallel component currents through the latter approximately compensates the contact repulsion forces.
