Operating Mechanism Structure Or Arrangement Patents (Class 218/92)
  • Patent number: 9035212
Abstract: An exemplary medium or high voltage switch has a first set of contact elements and a second set of contact elements. Each contact element includes an insulating carrier carrying conducting elements. In the closed state of the switch, the conducting elements align to form one or more current paths between terminals of the switch along an axial direction. For opening the switch, the contact elements are mutually displaced by means of one or two drives along a direction perpendicular to the axial direction. The switching arrangement is arranged in a fluid-tight housing in a gas of elevated pressure or in a liquid. The switch has a high voltage withstand capability and fast switching times.

  • Patent number: 8232498
Abstract: A short-circuit device is provided for medium and high-voltage switching devices, in which at least one moving contact is moved onto a fixed contact by means of a propelling charge. Two contact arrangements are provided in series to provide a higher dielectric strength. Each of the contact arrangements includes a fixed contact and a moving contact. A first fixed contact of a first one of the contact arrangements contains a mechanical ignition device for providing a propelling charge to a moving contact of the second one of the contact arrangements, such that when the moving contact reaches the fixed contact of the first contact arrangement, the propelling charge is mechanically ignited to cause the moving contact of the second contact arrangement to be propelled toward the fixed contact of the second contact arrangement.

  • Patent number: 8013268
Abstract: This invention relates to a circuit breaker (1) for high or medium voltages, of the type having a drive bar (70) coupled to a drive member, and a circuit-breaking chamber (2) facing it and having two contacts (3, 4), each contact (3, 4) including a main contact (30, 40 respectively) and an arcing contact (31, 41 respectively), with one of the two contacts (3) being fixed to a blast or extinguishing nozzle (32). According to the invention, the second contact (4) and the drive bar (70) are joined together by coupling means (6) in such a way that they move together in translation in the same direction, the transmission means (5) being disposed on the side (21) of the chamber (2) that is adjacent to the drive bar (70), and are adapted to transmit the motion of the driven second contact (4) to the first contact (3).

  • Patent number: 7642480
Abstract: In order to reduce the breaking energy of a high-voltage or medium-voltage circuit-breaker, the interrupting chamber (10) contains two contacts (12, 14) mounted to move in opposite directions, and actuated via a single device (20). The two contacts (12, 14) are surrounded by an insulating casing (18) of tubular shape, coupled in fixed manner to the main contact (12). The contacts (12, 14) are actuated by a device having a lever (24) in which each lever arm is coupled to a link, one of the links (32) being secured to the insulating casing (18) and the other link (34) being secured to the second contact (14). The guiding of the drive tube (18) on the main contacts (12b, 14b) makes it possible to improve breaking by keeping clean gas between said main contacts.

  • Patent number: 6903295
Abstract: A fluid pressure operating apparatus, comprising: a fluid pressure cylinder for opening and/or closing a contact; control valves for use of open operation and/or closed-circuit, for bringing the fluid pressure cylinders into an opened-circuit operation and a closed-circuit operation; and solenoids, each being provided in each of those control valves. Each of those solenoids has a plunger therein. An operation initiating time of the control valves for use of open (operation) differs from that of the control valves for use of close (operation), when operating to open circuit and when operating to close circuit.

  • Patent number: 6875941
Abstract: Disclosed is a hydraulic operating apparatus for switch with which it is possible to constantly obtain a stable interrupting performance at the time of high-speed successive operations. Closing and interrupting pressure accumulators comprise closing and interrupting pressure accumulation pistons, and closing and interrupting pressure accumulation springs for biasing the closing and interrupting pressure accumulation pistons in pressure accumulation directions, respectively. The closing and interrupting pressure accumulation springs exert, on the closing and interrupting pressure accumulation pistons, forces corresponding to received pressures acting on the closing and interrupting pressure accumulation pistons from closing and interrupting pressure accumulation chambers in a steady state. The closing pressure accumulator and the interrupting pressure accumulator are independently constituted for closing and for interrupting, respectively.

  • Patent number: 6815629
Abstract: In a hydraulic pressure actuating apparatus for a circuit breaker, contacts of the circuit breaker have a moving contact and a stationary contact for turning on/off current. A shaft, at an end portion of which is attached the moving contact, and at the other end of which is attached a piston, is received within a cylinder. A directional control valve exchanges oil pressure for actuating the piston. For changing over the directional control valve, pilot valves are provided. Each pilot valve has a pair of valve bodies, each opposing to each other, and springs. One of the valve bodies is able to stroke up to contact with the valve body of the other valve body, therefore giving no ill influences upon actuating time, even if drawback occurs in the pilot valves in the hydraulic pressure actuating apparatus for the circuit breaker.

  • Patent number: 6797909
Abstract: A high-voltage loadbreak switch operates submersed in a dielectric fluid and may be configured to switch one or more phases of power using one or more phase switches. Each phase switch may include first and second stationary contacts. The first stationary contact may be connected to a phase of a high-voltage power source. Each phase switch also may include a non-stationary contact. The non-stationary contact may be placed in a first position to electrically couple the first stationary contact to the second stationary contact, and in a second position to decouple the first stationary contact and the second stationary contact. The region of motion of the first non-stationary contact between the first position and the second position includes an arcing region. The high-voltage loadbreak switch uses a fluid circulation mechanism to improve circulation of the dielectric fluid through the arcing region.
