  • Patent number: 11440128
Abstract: An electrode orientation checking apparatus includes a machine stand attached to a seam welding apparatus from which one roller electrode of a set has been removed, a positioning guide and a set of distance sensors that are provided on the machine stand, and a calculating section. A positioning surface of the positioning guide is fixed at a position corresponding to a portion of an outer circumferential surface of the one roller electrode before being removed, the portion lying on a line segment connecting rotational centers of the roller electrodes. The distance sensors are respectively fixed forward and backward of the positioning surface in a progression direction of the roller electrodes. The calculating section calculates data for acquiring a direction of the line segment relative to the stacked body.

Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a seam welding warpage prevention method and apparatus capable of preventing warpage caused by cooling contraction after welding, in a case where workpieces are different from one another in material and thickness, and thus not uniform in thermal contraction. In the seam welding warpage prevention method for welding a plurality of workpieces W1 and W2 that are not uniform in thermal contraction with respect to an energizing direction, the workpieces W1 and W2 are clamped with a pair of roller electrodes 23 and 33 while applying current. The welding is performed in a state where the roller electrode 33 that abuts on the workpiece W2 having higher thermal contraction is offset in an advancing direction ahead of the roller electrode 23 that abuts on the workpiece W1 having lower thermal contraction.

Abstract: A pair of upper and lower electrode wheels 1, 2 are disposed so that their axes 17, 18 are tilted in a horizontal plane in respective directions opposite to each other with respect to a straight line Y perpendicular to a welding line X defined on overlapping portions (L) of two metal plates 5, 6, and mash seam welding is performed while positively driving electric motors 61, 62. This can reduce the increased amount of thickness and step gradient of a joint portion to reduce a stress concentration factor and ensure joint strength. The metal plates are joined to each other such that a nugget N is not deviated from a joint interface. Therefore, it is possible to prevent respective ends of the metal plates at the overlapping portions L from biting into and scratching the corresponding electrode wheels 1, 2 and to prevent spattering during the welding.

Abstract: A butt welding apparatus, a butt welding method, and a product manufactured by the butt welding method involves two electrode rollers disposed on both the front and back sides of a thick sheet member and a thin sheet member whose end surfaces are butted. The electrode rollers bridge across the sheet members and are composed of small diameter portions on the side of the thick sheet member and large diameter portions on the side of the thin sheet member. The small diameter portions come into contact with and press the thick sheet member before the large diameter portions come into contact with the thin sheet member. Thus, the end surface of the thick sheet member swells and deforms toward the thin sheet member and reliably comes into contact with the end surface of the thin sheet member, and power is applied between the end surfaces, even if not polished.

Abstract: A multi-gauge composite metal strip is produced from a plurality of individual metal strips of different thicknesses. The individual strips are heated, passed through an oxide reducing atmosphere and are then directed between a pair of work rolls with their adjacent edges arranged in a mutually overlapping relationship.
