Patent number: 8367959Abstract: A system and method for treating subcutaneous histological features without affecting adjacent tissues adversely employs microwave energy of selected power, frequency and duration to penetrate subcutaneous tissue and heat target areas with optimum doses to permanently affect the undesirable features. The frequency chosen preferentially interacts with the target as opposed to adjacent tissue, and the microwave energy is delivered as a short pulse causing minimal discomfort and side effects. By distributing microwave energy at the skin over an area and adjusting power and frequency, different conditions, such as hirsuitism and telangiectasia, can be effectively treated.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2011Date of Patent: February 5, 2013Assignee: Miramar Labs, Inc.Inventor: Robert Bruce Spertell

Patent number: 7151243Abstract: A clip on welder includes two pairs of opposed grippers defined by pivotally attached upper and lower frames for latching the welder to heat weldable material, such as a length of tubing, upon actuation of a start button by an operator; thereafter, the welder operates unattended. At least a jaw of a pair of jaws disposed intermediate the two pairs of grippers heats the material compressed and lodged therebetween to form a weld in or across the material. A source of gas, such as air, under pressure selectively connected to a bellows provides the power to pivot the upper and lower frames into gripping engagement with the material. A source of electrical signals provides the power to heat the material intermediate the pair of jaws. One or more thermocouples senses the heat of the jaws and generates signals used to control the application of power and to control cooling. After completion of the weld, cooling air is directed to the jaws until the thermocouple(s) signal(s) indicates a sufficiently low temperature.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2006Date of Patent: December 19, 2006Assignee: Engineering & Research Associates, Inc.Inventor: Joseph C. Jensen

Patent number: 5801351Abstract: The invention concerns a method for welding hinge pins onto links each formed of one or more elements, the links being connected to each other by means of said hinge pins arranged in passages provided for this purpose in the links, each pin being fixed onto one of the links and hinged onto the next link, characterised in that the connection of the pin to the link is made via an arc welding operation with the aid of an electrode in an inert atmosphere without using a solder.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1996Date of Patent: September 1, 1998Assignee: Werthanor S.A.Inventors: Roger Ecoffet, Joseph Eray, Sylvain Wenger

Patent number: 4388513Abstract: An electrode (75) disposed within an insulating sleeve (86) is placed adjacent a work piece (9) to provide a selected gap between the electrode and the work piece. The atmosphere between the electrode and the work piece is first ionized and then a welding arc discharges between the electrode and the work piece. The orientation of the electrode can be adjusted by rotation of the electrode assembly (36), the amount of the gap by rotation of member (78), vertical placement of the electrode head 36 by eccentric means 40 and spacing between the terminus of the forward movement of arm (32) and the work piece station by adjusting the position of stop (54). Spacing of the electrode from the work piece enables the welding of similar and dissimilar metals such as fine wires of gold, silver, brass and others used in such applications as jewelry, medical, and electronic to provide the required strength, but without marring the surface of the work piece.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1981Date of Patent: June 14, 1983Assignee: Conceptual Engineering Associates, Inc.Inventors: Carl H. Brastow, Joel D. Mallett, Douglas J. Livingston

Patent number: 4164638Abstract: A method for flash butt welding of annular workpieces, particularly chain links, in which the ends of the workpiece to be welded together, are preheated before flashing and upsetting by controlling the feeding force for the upsetting slide in several successive preheat time cycles. The feeding force during the first preheat time cycle is minimized during the first preheat time cycle and progressively increased during advancing preheat time cycles, dependent on the increase in force required for workpiece deformation. The feeding force may have a decreasing increment during advancing preheat time cycles. The feeding force may also have a stepwise increase per preheat time cycle. The feeding force may, moreover, have a continuous increase.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1978Date of Patent: August 14, 1979Assignee: Hugo Miebach GmbHInventor: Klaus Ulmer

Patent number: 4149058Abstract: For the successive welding to immediately consecutive links of a chain at a welding station, the chain is advanced to bring each link in turn to the welding station, the links flanking the link to be welded are positioned in a common plane perpendicular to the orientation of the link to be welded by orienting edges of two guides disposed to respectively opposite sides of the welding station, and each guide is constituted by a pair of webs spaced from its respective orienting edge, and arranged to support the straight sides of alternating chain links, and a region between the webs and the orienting edge in which the chain is free to rotate or twist about its longitudinal axis.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1977Date of Patent: April 10, 1979Assignee: Meyer, Roth & Pastor Maschinenfabrik GmbHInventor: Paul Rahn

Patent number: 4067188Abstract: A heavy-duty chain link which constitutes a chain for use with vessels and the like. The link is fitted with a stud across the center thereof, which tends to prevent stretching and kinking of the link. Heat sources such as electron beams and plasma arcs fusion weld the abutting of two ends of the link, and the stud is wedged at at least one of its ends to said link by means of roots of weld beads provided by the heat sources. Such wedges lie at a right angle with the axis of the link for most effectively preventing the stretching and kinking of the link when it is subjected to a heavy load. A method of making this kind of stud chain link is disclosed also.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1976Date of Patent: January 10, 1978Assignee: Kyuroku Kabushiki-KaishaInventor: Soroku Takahashi

Patent number: 4012618Abstract: For the successive welding of the joints of consecutive links forming a link chain, the chain is advanced in a chain welding machine to bring a link to be welded directly below a welding position; the two links flanking the link to be welded are aligned in a common plane of alignment while a tensioning force is applied to the chain parallel to the direction of chain advance. Thereafter, the link to be welded is raised into a welding position in a plane disposed at 90.degree. to the plane of alignment. Subsequently, the link is immobilized in the welding position and its joint is welded. Upon completion of the welding step, the just-welded link is lowered from the welding position.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1975Date of Patent: March 15, 1977Assignee: Meyer, Roth & Pastor Maschinenfabrik GmbHInventors: Bruno Ebel, Gunter Krumholz, Paul Rahn
