With Tuning Or Particular Modes Patents (Class 219/750)
  • Patent number: 5532462
Abstract: A reaction vessel used in industrial applications is heated by a multiple mode microwave beam that is directed to an interior wall of the reaction vessel. The beam is in an inclined-angular fashion and the wall is arranged so the beam is absorbed and reflected from it many times to provide a helical-like reflection and absorption pattern within the vessel interior to uniformly heat the vessel wall and the material. A microwave isolator connected between a source of the microwave energy and the reaction vessel includes a quartz plate and a seal for compensating disparities in thermal expansion coefficients between the plate and a housing for the plate.

  • Patent number: 5434391
Abstract: A microwave oven has a food-receiving cavity the rear panel of which is apertured to provide a launch area for the entry of microwave power to the cavity from a magnetron. A metal plate is positioned in front of a launch area, a central area of the plate having apertures. A forced hot air system comprising a fan and an electrical resistance heating element are positioned between the launch area and the plate. In use, the plate acts as a baffle plate for the hot air system and also as a mis-match plate for the microwave power, so that the dielectric load of food items placed in the cavity determines the microwave power coupled to the loaded oven from the magnetron.

  • Patent number: 5412186
Abstract: A method of preventing sticking of moving parts of a micro-mechanical device. A set of microwave frequencies, which will cause water molecules to resonate, is determined. From this set of frequencies, an applied frequency that will provide an efficient energy coupling from the source to the device is selected. The device is continuously irradiated with radiation of this frequency.

  • Patent number: 5378876
Abstract: The invention relates to a microwave oven which neither generates hot spots nor destroys a magnetron by shutting microwaves when there is no load to be heated. This microwave oven is constructed so that the impedances are matched when there is a load, and the impedances are unmatched when there is no load, by shifting the location of the opening of the cooking chamber from the center of the wave guide. When there is no load, as most of the microwaves are converted to standing waves and the pressing waves do not reach the cooking chamber, then it becomes possible to prevent dangers such as the abnormal irradiation of any part, the destruction of the chamber case owing to the occurrence of the heat spot, and the abnormal heat generation due to the leakage of the short waves.

  • Patent number: 5371342
Abstract: In an electromagnetic-wave-operated heating apparatus in which, with a body to be heated such as a living body inserted into the cavity resonator incorporating at least one reentrant, an electromagnetic wave produced by high frequency energy supplied into the cavity resonator is used to heat the body; an electric field concentrating member is provided between the reentrant and the body in such a manner that the electric field concentrating member is provided to be electrically disconnected to the reentrant, whereby, under an ordinary condition that the body held in the apparatus is not in parallel with the end face of the reentrant, a deep portion of the body can be heated with high efficiency.

  • Patent number: 5369250
Abstract: In the heat treatment of food particularly pre-packed food it is important to control the temperature and to provide uniform heat distribution within the article, By using a number of microwave emission slots in a waveguide which are brought to resonance in the presence of pre-packed articles carried over the slots by a conveyor the rate of rise of temperature within the article is controlled without unnecessary energy loss between articles carried seriatim on the conveyor The slots may be set obliquely to the direction of passage of the article Alternatively the slots may be formed by a series of smaller slots staggered obliquely across the waveguide so that the presence of the article tunes each of the slots in turn as it passes over the waveguide. The slots may be covered with low-loss dielectric material to prevent extraneous matter falling into the slots and to space the article from the slots so as to control power dissipated.

  • Patent number: 5352873
Abstract: A microwave oven with an oven cavity and a microwave feed system which produces a microwave distribution of polarized microwaves with essentially defined field vector orientations relative to one of the walls of the cavity. A zone defining an expansion of volume which opens into the cavity and whose dimensions are tuned to the wavelength and field distribution in the cavity, is disposed in a wall of the cavity. The expansion does not affect the effective field distribution in the cavity and can be used for concealed placement of a grill element or light source.

  • Patent number: 5308944
Abstract: A microwave device for treating process liquids, preferably precursors to radiopharmaceuticals, with microwave radiation, with the intention of reducing reaction time and increasing reaction yield. The method and the device are characterized in that the geometry of the microwave cavity is varied proportionally to the geometry of the sample container in order to concentrate the microwave field within the container. The reaction time can also be shortened and the reaction yield also increased by varying the microwave field energy or microwave field frequency. The reaction time can also be decreased by adding salts to the process liquid or by adapting the frequency of the microwave field to the resonance frequency of the process liquid in the microwave spectrum.
