Patent number: 7604142Abstract: A container for storing one or more articles (e.g., cosmetic substances, accessories, applicators, etc.) is provided. The container includes a base, a cover pivotally coupled to the base about a hinge, a resilient bar supported at one of the base and the cover, and a first cam surface supported at the other of the base and the cover. The first cam surface is configured to engage the resilient bar when the cover has moved a predetermined angle relative to the base. The resilient bar acting on the first cam surface moves the cover to a closed position. According to an exemplary embodiment, the resilient bar and/or the first cam surface is substantially concealed within the container.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2005Date of Patent: October 20, 2009Assignee: Rexam Beauty and Closures, Inc.Inventor: Joachim Banik

Patent number: 6059135Abstract: A safety container is described which can simultaneously store and secure containers of liquid and solid medications without any mingling of the two types of medications occurring. The safety container can also store and secure medical equipment and supplies used in the administration of medications, as well as other items. The lid of the safety container is secured to the receptacle of the safety container by a slidable elongated bolt which engages a flange located on the receptacle. The slidable elongated bolt can be held in place by a lock. Multiple units of the safety container can be joined together through a tongue-and-groove configuration located on opposing walls of the receptacles. In another embodiment, a safety container is described which allows the lid to move horizontally with respect to the receptacle. The lid is prevented from being raised upwardly be at least one flange which abuts at least aperture located on one sidewall of the lid.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1997Date of Patent: May 9, 2000Assignee: John JamesInventors: John James, Wendy Gilhula, Linda Gullette Hudson, Donna Poling

Patent number: 5427270Abstract: A water resistant and fire retardant container for releasably encapsulating an electrical connection includes a housing having an opening and a receiving chamber for receiving a wire nut having an electrical connection therein between contacting ends of electrical wires. The receiving chamber is pre-filled with water resistant sealing gel. An end cap is removably interlocked with a circular lip of the housing at the opening and includes a plurality of flexible segments extending from a perimeter opening within the end cap radially inward. The flexible segments are positioned common to a single plane and converge toward a common point to form a flexible, segmented cover over the housing opening. A locking ring is disposed within the receiving chamber below the end cap for allowing one-way passage of the wire nut therethrough.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1993Date of Patent: June 27, 1995Inventor: Don Patterson

Patent number: 4913304Abstract: A beverage container closure is provided for resealing beverage containers of the type having a peripheral rim encompassing a slightly recessed, apertured end wall through which the contents of the container are dispensed. The closure device includes a sealing member, or cover, constructed so as to sealably engage the rim portions of various sizes of containers and a cooperating interlocking mechanism which is adapted to be inserted through a dispensing aperture in the end wall of the container, and is constructed so that when it is inserted a portion of the interlocking mechanism is brought into engagement with the inner surface of the container end wall in a manner as to urge the cover into tight sealing engagement with the rim of the container.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 1989Date of Patent: April 3, 1990Inventor: John L. Patent number: 4132327Abstract: In accordance with the present invention a hatch cover opening and closing assembly is provided including a locking handle having a yoke pivotably mounted about a vertically extending shaft located in the center portion of the cover. The shaft extends downwardly through a guide which depends from the cover. The guide includes at least one generally vertical indexing slot. Below the cover a laterally extending pin and a plurality of radially extending locking arms are attached to the shaft. A plurality of locking lugs are mounted on the internal surface of the coaming. The shaft is rotatable by the handle to move the locking arms into and out of engagement with the locking lugs. However the pin must be located within the indexing slot to move the locking arms vertically into engagement with the locking lugs. When the shaft is rotated so that the pin is located out of the slot, but in engagement with the guide, the handle may be used to pivot the cover about a hinge into open position.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1978Date of Patent: January 2, 1979Assignee: ACF Industries, Inc.Inventors: Ronald D. Patent number: 3989160Abstract: A container is utilized to hold fluid under pressure and has a non-circular arcuate opening. A cover member is movable from an open position through the opening to a closed position in which a seal on the cover member sealingly engages a wall of the container. The cover member has an arcuate non-circular configuration corresponding to the configuration of the container opening. When the cover member is moved to the closed position, it may be skewed relative to the container opening so that portions of a side wall of the cover member are spaced relatively close to a side wall of the container while other portions of the side wall of the cover member are spaced relatively far from the side wall of the container. An improved seal is utilized to prevent leakage of fluid under pressure from inside of the container around the skewed cover. This seal includes a body portion which circumscribes the cover member and is disposed between a rim of the container wall and a rim of the cover member.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1976Date of Patent: November 2, 1976Assignee: The Hansen Manufacturing Co.Inventors: Bert W.
