Abstract: An inexpensive reusable insulated jacket for removably receiving an open beverage can therewith, and to maintain its contents in refrigerated condition, having a cover for preventing windblown sand and other foreign materials from entering the can and thereby contaminating its contents. The jacket is designed so that it is comprised of only two separate molded pieces of insulating material, a cylindrical cup-like member and a cover, the cover being secured to the cup-like member solely by a small elastic band anchored upon the cup-like member and extending over the cover while urging same toward closed protecting position.A bearing surface is molded into the cover and cooperates with a bearing surface molded into the cup-like member, so as to obviate the need for a fixed hinge member, the latter being difficult to secure and maintain in molded insulating material and relatively expensive to manufacture.

Abstract: A link bar is pivotally mounted on the top side of a plate which is secured to the underside of the top of a receptacle. The bar terminates with a handle exterior of the receptacle immediately above a hinged door. A cable extends between the door and an intermediate location of the bar. In response to lateral movement of the lever, the door is caused to swing inwardly open.

Abstract: A closure for a plastic canister in the 20-30 liter range has a collar coaxial with a pouring spout on the canister, with side abutments with lower surfaces arranged to cooperate with the claws of the closure. A cap is arranged to swing between an open condition and a closed condition relative to the collar. The claw is approximately U-shaped, with a transverse gripping web and two longitudinal webs ending in a fork having an upper and a lower prong. The upper prongs are arranged to form a swivel hinge with journals on the cap. The lower prongs have inner surfaces arranged to cooperate with lower surfaces of the abutments such that when the gripping web is pressed downward a sealing ring in the cap is pressed onto the end face of the pouring nozzle. The collar is arranged to fit against the cap with minimal spacings and the claw is arranged to fit against the collar and the cap with minimal spacings, when the cap is in the closed condition.

Abstract: A lid control device for refuse containers having a linkage system including a normally horizontally disposed foot pedal arm mounted on the end of the container at its lower portion. One end of the pedal arm terminates in a foot pedal, and the arm is pivoted to the container near its center portion. The other end of the arm is pivotally secured to a vertically disposed lifting arm which extends vertically upwardly. The upper end of the arm terminates in a horizontal flange. The upper end of the lifting arm extends through a keeper bracket on the upper edge of the container. The keeper bracket is located rearwardly of the conventional lifting bracket secured to the end of the container which is used by refuse trucks in lifting the container. The horizontal flange on the upper end of the lifting arm engages the lower surface of the lid on the container. Preferably, if the lid is comprised of plastic, a slide plate is mounted on the lower surface of the lid to engage the horizontal flange of the lifting arm.

Abstract: A wastebasket includes a container having a top opening, and a lid mounted on the container and adapted to pivot about a pivot axis to cover and uncover the top opening. A mechanism for actuating pivotal movement of the lid with respect to the container is provided. The mechanism includes a generally horizontal operating lever having a foot pedal, a depending flange joined to the lid, and a rod linkage interconnecting the operating lever and the flange. The lid flange has an elongated slot formed through its thickness. The slot includes a channel and two enlargements situated at opposite ends of the channel. The rod linkage slides through the channel into one of the two enlargements, and engages the lid flange at either enlargement to pivot the lid between positions covering and uncovering the container.

Abstract: A box for cosmetics comprising a base defining a recess, a cover pivotably mounted on the base around a rear transverse pivot, a movable push rod borne by the base at the rear end cooperating with the cover so as to open it, and a pair of parts cooperating and movable with respect to one another for resiliently holding the cover in the closed position. The pair of parts are complementary in shape with one another, the first part comprising a portion of the cover and the second part comprising a portion of the base, so that the push rod functions mainly to open the cover and not to lock it in the closed position.

Abstract: A refuse container has a two-position lid. The two positions are achieved by means of a J-shaped slot in a lid hinge. The slot receives a horizontal shaft supported in the container body. In the first open position, gravity acts on the lid such that the shaft is at one end of the slot, and the lid hinge abuts a pad on the container body for maintaining the lid at an angle of approximately 105.degree. from a horizontal closed position. To pivot the lid to the second open position, the lid is lifted such that the slot slides over the shaft until the hinge clears the container body pad, at which point the lid is pivotable to approximately 270.degree. with respect to the horizontal closed position.

Abstract: Plastic food storage and cooking container having an airtight seal between the lid and the bowl of the container, with a release tab for lifting the lid away from the bowl with a prying action.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided for protecting the food of a house pet and is particularly useful when a pet is fed outdoors. The pet feeding deivce covers the food intended for a pet and protects the food from birds and undesirable pests. The pet feeding device employs a tray having a hinged lid and a treadle upon which the pet steps to open the lid. The treadle is connected to a pair of parallel arcuate ram arms which are carried rearwardly when the pet steps on the treadle. The arms travel between guide rollers and push upwardly against the underside of the lid to raise the lid to an open position when the treadle is depressed. When the pet is finished eating it releases the treadle, whereupon a spring aids in shutting the lid.

Abstract: A wastebasket includes a container having a top opening, and a lid mounted on the container and adapted to pivot about a pivot axis to cover and uncover the top opening. A mechanism for actuating pivotal movement of the lid with respect to the container is provided. The mechanism includes a generally horizontal operating lever having a foot pedal, a depending flange joined to the lid, and a rod linkage interconnecting the operating lever and the flange. Abstract: A slit valve for sealing an access opening in a vacuum chamber. The slit valve body or door is pivotally mounted adjacent the opening and has a pair of cam blocks mounted at its opposite ends. Cam follower rollers are mounted on a swing arm for reversible pivotal door opening and closing movement effected by a pneumatic cylinder. During closing movement of the swing arm, the cam followers engage the cam block and resiliently pivot the slit valve against the opening. Upon reversed, pivotal opening movement, the cam followers release from the cam block, allowing a spring to return the door to a normally opened position. The slit valve mounting is adapted to provide equal compressive sealing, both top-to-bottom and side-to-side.

Abstract: A stationary hinged covering device for a removably arranged container of an oral rinsing device comprises an upright support with a horizontally disposed stationary carrier secured to the support. A container cover has a front portion and a slightly heavier rear portion with a hinge pivotally connecting the container cover to the stationary carrier at a point between the front and rear portions of the cover. The cover has a rearwardly and downwardly extending flap at the rear portion thereof arranged to engage the rim of a container when positioned under the cover. When the container is removed the front portion of the cover swings in an upward direction about the hinge while the rear portion swings in a downward direction. When the container is positioned directly under the cover the cover is horizontally disposed.

Abstract: A screw stopper for synthetic plastic cans in the range of 10 litres and above has a pouring spout with an external threading, a cap with an internal threading fitting the external threading on the pouring spout, and a connection device between the pouring spout and the cap. The external and internal threadings have an equal pitch, that is high enough that rotation of the cap through 180 degrees plus/minus 30 degrees rotates the cap from a closed to an open position. An articulated handle on the upper side of the cap protrudes far beyond the cap. The connection device includes a retaining ring that guides the cap in a shape-engaging manner and a guide device that is rigidly connected with the pouring spout and guides the retaining ring and has a partial region arranged as an arrestor for the handle grip in the closed position of the cap.

Abstract: The apparatus is a refrigerated bait box having a main body portion including a bottom wall, and front, back and first and second side walls, defining a principle interior chamber with an open top end. A main lid is hinged relative to the top edge of the back wall for pivotal movement between opened and closed positions. A recessed channel is provided along the top edge of the container portion for housing and supporting a webbed basket which occupies only a portion of the container space, with the interior of the space between the bottom of the basket and the floor portion of the container portion serving to house ice in the cubed form for allowing maintenance of the bait contained in the basket to remain cold yet the basket allowing any moisture from the bait to fall into the lower ice containing portion. There is further included a foot activated means for moving the top lid for "hands free" opening and closing.

Abstract: A resealable, anti-litter-type pop top beverage container wherein a rotatable tab member can be raised to depress a sealing member into the interior of the container to fully expose the lid opening for drinking or the like. The sealing member includes a second resealing lobe integral therewith and responsive to the rotation of the tab in a first direction for positioning the resealing tab beneath the lid opening and resealing the opening in an air-tight manner to prevent the escape of gases therefrom thereby preventing the beverage stored therein from going flat. The second or resealing member is also responsive to the rotation of the tab member in the opposite direction for unseating the resealing member and reexposing the lid opening to enable the remaining stored liquid contained therein to be drunk or poured therefrom.

Abstract: This invention relates to a ground actuated lid operating system including (1) a pressure release lid apparatus operable to selectively open and close a pressure lid member to release fluid pressure from the interior of a silo structure; and (2) an entrance lid closure apparatus operable to open and close a closure lid member without leaving the area of the support surface adjacent the silo structure. The pressure release lid apparatus has the pressure lid member biased to a closed positive seal condition and opened through the use of a lid actuator assembly and lid linkage assembly which is operable from a position adjacent to a side wall of the silo structure not requiring the climbing thereof. The entrance lid closure apparatus is provided with an axially movable closure lid member which is movable from the open condition to add granular materials to the silo structure and laterally and subsequently downwardly to a positive sealed position about a silo entrance opening.

Abstract: An actuating device for opening and closing a whistling cap of a whistling kettle, wherein the whistling cap is rotatably mounted on the spout by means of a first pivot, comprising an actuating rod which is rotatably mounted on the whistling cap by means of a second pivot, and a spring for continuously biasing the cap into a closed position. The actuating rod has a longitudinal axis which extends in a direction at an obtuse angle .theta. with respect to a line connecting the first and second pivots in the closed position of the whistling cap. The actuating rod can move into a locked position past a dead point at which the longitudinal axis of the rod and the first and second pivots are aligned on a same line when the rod is moved to open the whistling cap.

Abstract: A unique self-actuating apparatus, basically useful in a wide variety of different type containers; said apparatus serving to automatically bias a substantially flat lid or top cover member from a normally horizontal/closed modality, to an alternate vertical/open modality, via effect of gravity acting thereupon; by virtue of a weighted guide member hingedly affixed to the lid in a manner as to result in the desired function whenever the container is lifted from a rested position. Hence, when combined with a drinking-cup, the novel actuator serves to instantly open a lid by the mere raising of the vessel from the counter surface for a drink--and conversely, snaps the lid shut whenever the cup is returned to rest; thereby providing carefree sanitary and thermal sealing advantages.

Abstract: A normally upright closed container having foot supports and wheels attached thereto to facilitate the transportation and storage of hot fats and greases. A perforated baffle plate having supporting channels spaced from the container and attached thereto supplies adequate support for the container when in the horizontal position and protects the operators from exposure to dangerous heat while the container is in the upright position. Further safety is provided through insulated handles and a closure member covering the off-set inlet to the container. The container is filled in the horizontal position while resting on the baffle plate and wheels. An insulated handle carried by the axle and a dumpster-engaging flange on the back side of the container are provided to facilitate the safe disposal of the container's contents into a main dumpster.

Abstract: A reclosable plastic container is formed having a cover hingedly attached to a base and having an interlocking structure such that the cover is held on the base when the container is closed. Release tabs are formed on each of the cover and base adjacent one another and having camming surfaces on each tab which extend therefrom toward the other tab. The camming surfaces on the tabs intersect in a fulcrum such that when the user presses the tabs together, the tabs rotate about the fulcrum to pull the cover and base apart. The camming surface on each tab may be formed as a ridge formed integrally with the tab. Reinforcing ridges, extending away from the plane of the tab in a direction opposite to that of the camming surfaces, are also preferably formed in the tab to provide structural rigidity so that the tabs do not substantially bend or flex when they are pressed by the user. The tabs allow a securely closed container to be easily opened by one hand of the user.

Abstract: A portable hamper for supporting a pliant bag having sides, a closed bottom and an upper portion having an open top, including, a frame having structure for holding the upper portion of the bag with the top spread open and with the remainder of the bag extending downward from the upper portion, a cover pivotably mounted at a top position at one end of the frame and with the cover in a first pivotal position covering the open top of the bag and with the cover in a second pivotal position exposing the open top of the bag, and a pedal actuated linkage including a pedal movably mounted to a bottom portion at the other end of the frame and at least one arm extending diagonally across the side of the frame and coupled to the pedal and the cover to provide pivotable movement of the cover from the first position to the second position upon movement of the pedal from an upper position to a downward position.

Abstract: Handle attachment for vessels such as drinking cups formed from a metal stamping, and for lids comprising a hinge-lever integral therewith. Said attachment comprising a rectangular member which extends into a rectangularly perforated tongue with a thin band of metal along its upper edge; and three pairs of tabs along the length of the member which attaches the U-shaped handle to the member.

Abstract: This invention relates to a large capacity, molded refuse container having a lid comprised of two identical, overlapping cover elements. The cover elements are each pivotally interconnected to the container by a hinge means which includes a hinge pin passing through an integral sleeve molded into the hinge. Portions of the hinge pin are exposed to allow the hinge pin to function as a handle.

Abstract: A remotely controlled cover means for a storage bin or the like, comprised of a cover which may be opened from a remote location by means of a rope or the like attached to said cover and guidance means therefore. The pulling force exerted by the rope causes the cover to pivot up from the storage bin access opening, outwardly and downwardly by means of an offset angled pivot means. A spring latch device is employed to return the cover to the closed or spaced vented position when desired.

Abstract: For vessels such as drinking cups formed from a metal stamping, having a rim formed by crimping the vessel lip around a length of wire, a U-shaped loop of which protrudes from two slots in said rim and is bent to form a handle, a new vessel lid attachment is provided which includes a hinge pin fashioned from a second length of wire which connects both sides of said U-shaped loop near the rim of said vessel, a hinge formed by an extension of said lid, having two parallel tabs which are slotted to slide over said hinge pin, said hinge also serving as a thumb operated lever for lifting said lid.

Abstract: A disposable oil can having displacable tab portions on the top and bottom lids, with a connecting rod lodged between the tabs. According to this arrangement, the oil can can be opened manually by pressing downwardly on the upper tab portion to cause the lower tab portion to open for drainage directly into the crankcase of an automobile without utilizing a pour spout. In an alternate embodiment, the upper pre-scored tab portion opens upwardly, and the lower pre-scored tab portion opens downwardly. A pivot bar is attached to the lower tab portion and is coupled to the upper tab portion so that upward movement of the upper tab causes downward rotation of the lower tab portion.

Abstract: A pivotally mounted closure means for a cylindrical can of the type from which a potable fluid is consumed. A collar member of resilient construction snugly engages the can about its periphery. An ear member projects in a radial direction from the collar member and provides two pivotal mounting means. The first pivotal mounting means is provided at the distal free end of the ear member and the second is spaced radially inwardly therefrom. A deflection plate depending to a closure member pivots about the first pivotal means responsive to deflection thereof by a consumer-actuated lever member that pivots about said second pivotal means.

Abstract: In a concealed garbage can container an upwardly open housing, having a hinged lid for containing one or more refuse containers, is recessed into the surface of the earth so that only its lid is exposed. A refuse can supporting platform within the housing is moved vertically by a winch driven reversible motor to raise and lower the platform. Pivoting links, extending between the platform and lid, simultaneously opens and closes the lid with vertical movement of the platform. Rollers, mounted on the platform engaging housing supported standards, maintain the platform horizontal during its vertical movement.

Abstract: An improved pedal bin of the type comprising a removable basket eccentrically suspended about an axis inside a rigid, upwardly opened box provided with a lid pivotably mounted on one upper flange of said box, in parallel relationship with respect to the suspension axis of the basket and wherein opening of lid is achieved by action of a pedal against the bottom of the basket, to swing it around its suspension axis, and thus move upwardly the end of the basket diagonally opposed to the pedal so as to tilt up the lid. In accordance with the invention the pedal forms an integral part of the basket, and the box is provided with an opening giving free access to the pedal from the outside of the box. The basket is suspended about two pivots located in its forward upper part, each pivot engaging a hinge integral to the box. Tilting up of the lid is obtained through a finger integral to the basket.

Abstract: A mechanism for closing the cover of a storage container, such as a container for an assortment of items or parts, includes a stop pin slidably mounted in a guide sleeve for movement into a first position where it engages a support lever attached to the cover and holds the cover in the open position, and a second position where the cover is automatically closed. A spring is arranged to bias the stop pin out of engagement with the support lever when the storage container is removed or displaced from a support surface with the cover being moved by another biasing arrangement into the closed position.

Abstract: A safety receptacle including a tank and a lid therefor. The lid is shiftable between its open and closed positions by a linkage system connected to the lid by a linkage connector. The linkage system includes a member which overlies the lid and is connected to the linkage connector by a heat sensitive actuator which releases the linkage connector when the lid is open in the presence of fire thereby allowing the lid to close by its own weight.

Abstract: A sanitary waste grease and fat disposal system and apparatus includes a novel sanitary storage unit for storage and handling of waste fatty materials, a tank truck for transportation of such materials, and equipment for transferring the stored materials to the truck for transportation to a fatty material processing plant. The sanitary storage unit is an enclosed storage bin of sealed, sanitary construction with a top opening for introduction of fatty materials and a bottom, valved outlet for connection to a hose for pumping to a tank truck for transportation. The top of the storage unit has a spring loaded lid which opens by operation of a pedal and has an interior wall with a strainer for trapping larger contaminating materials from the fatty materials being collected. The contents is kept fluid by a thermostatically controlled heating element in the bottom of the storage unit.

Abstract: A decorative fowl provided for receiving articles is shaped to simulate an ornamental carved bird having an elongated body. A receptacle is provided in said elongated body having an opened top for receiving articles. A pair of wings is pivotally carried on the elongated body. A head simulating the head of a bird is rotatably carried adjacent a front top portion of the elongated body. Linkage means extend between the head and the pair of wings so that upon rotating the head from a first position to a second position, the wings are rotated from a position wherein they extend over the top of the receptacle providing a closure therefor to an opened outwardly extending diverging position providing access to the receptacle.

Abstract: A receptacle device useful for receiving material, comprising a container having an opening, a covering pivotally mounted on the opening, and a substantially U-shaped operating member straddling the container and having at least one end rotatably connected to the covering so that the container can be opened and closed in response to actuating the operating member.

Abstract: A toy storage apparatus having a decorative outer surface designed to appear as an animate object. The apparatus is adapted for operation by a child and includes a hollow body of substantial volume for holding toys, and a top or cover pivotally mounted on the body resembling the head of an animal. A foot pedal which is designed to appear as the foot of an animal is connected through linkage to open the cover exposing the upper end of the hollow body to receive toys.

Abstract: A two-part box surrounds the bait in the back of the box on all sides, except in front, where the box area is closed by a swinging door supported from its upper edge and spring-urged to a closed position. The door is manually set in an open position in a generally horizontal direction and releasably held there by a support pin or trip rod which is supported to move freely in vertical direction through an opening in the bottom, and the pin is held in the support position when the box is resting on a surface and the door is resting on the pin. On removal of the box away from the surface, the pin drops down and the door closes, so no one can touch the bait until the door is manually re-set in open position.

Abstract: The spout cover assembly for a container, for example a tea kettle, is formed by a spout cover flap and an operating lever formed integrally from plastics material hinged together by an area of reduced thickness. The operating lever is mounted in the handle of the kettle and the cover flap is hingedly connected with the kettle thereby forming a fulcrum for the operation of the cover flap by the lever.

Abstract: A terminal housing has top and bottom walls shaped as inverted pans, which support between them a forwardly-arched arrangement of terminal block panels providing a rear cable-connection space and a front service-connection face. A peripherally-continuous side-wall enclosure includes two doors which are hinged adjacent the rear of the panel arch and extend forward and across into overlapping relation at the front. A cap or cover having a depending peripheral flange is supported above the top wall by springs in a normally raised position in which it clears the doors and allows them to swing open. A manual actuating lever swings forward below the bottom wall and actuates linkage to move the cap downward to a closed position in which its peripheral flange overlaps the top edges of the doors to secure them closed. A latch finger on the actuating lever engages the edges of the doors to secure them closed at the bottom. The lever is padlocked in closed position.

Abstract: A container is disclosed for dispensing loose, solid, small size articles, like tablets, pills and other confectionary products, comprising a casing and a closure device, the latter including a lid member having a portion extending beyond the hinge axis between the lid and the casing, and operating means pivoted to the container and adapted to engage said portion of the lid, whereby on actuating said operating means the lid is opened by rotating around the hinge axis, the lid being further urged towards its closure condition by elastic means.
