  • Patent number: 10260402
Abstract: A non-negative pressure radiator cap is provided and includes a pressure valve having a pressure member, disposed inside a body while having an aperture formed therein. The pressure member is pressed based on an increase in pressure of coolant to move coolant toward a reservoir tank. Additionally, a vacuum valve that includes a head part and a neck part moves vertically based on the pressure of the coolant to open or close the aperture. The neck part passes through the aperture from bottom to top. A sealing member is disposed between the pressure valve and the vacuum valve and has an insertion aperture that is formed at a position corresponding to the aperture of the pressure valve. A retainer is further inserted into the aperture and the insertion hole and a guide directs the vacuum valve to move vertically when the vacuum valve is opened or closed.

Abstract: A closure that includes a top panel and a skirt extending downwardly from a peripheral edge of the top panel is provided. The skirt terminates in a plurality of spaced thread engagement flanges for engaging the thread of the neck of a container. The closure includes a polymer-filled channel which connects the top panel to the skirt. When engaged with the threaded neck of a container, the neck is forced into the channel and engaged by the polymer so that the channel and polymer provide lateral rigidity to the neck. This rigidity prevents the neck from deflecting from the forces resulting between the threads and thread engagement lugs when the forces therebetween are increased to the level required to adequately seal the closure to the container.

Abstract: A resealable can end is provided including a neck member and hat member which can be sealed onto and removed from the neck member of the end, and is capable of containing product under pressure if desired. This end can be added, as by a conventional seam, to a metal container body to obtain resealing containment of partial contents retained in the container, and to provide an improved mouth construction (or pour opening) for better pouring and for comfortable direct drinking from the container. Also disclosed are improved methods of and apparatus for making such a resealable hat and neck type of container end.

  • Patent number: 5979688
Abstract: A vacuum pack food container is closed by releasable and reclosable sheet metal closure having a center portion defining an annular recess around an upwardly projecting integral vacuum release button with an undercut wall partially surrounded by a score line smaller than the button. The sealant material is confined within the button and has an outwardly projecting flange releasably bonded to the closure under the score line. Depressing the button peels the sealant flange from the closure to define a vacuum release passage which closes and seals when the pressure on the button is released. A peripheral skirt portion on the closure has inwardly projecting bosses which cooperate with cam surfaces on the bottom of a curled rim portion of a sheet metal container to provide a twist-on twist-off closure.

Abstract: A twist-on/twist-off resealable assembly for a can-end, such as a metal can used in the beverage industry includes a first set of knuckles formed on the can body near its top opening. A plurality of cooperating fingers on the inside of the can lid engage the knuckles so that the lid is tightened by its progressive downward motion as the lid is rotated. The lid also includes a weakened or frangible portion for forming a straw opening. A second set of knuckles are located below the top set of knuckles for engagement by fingers extending from a pilfer-proof ring. The twist-off can lid may be made from the same metal as the can body or alternatively from a transparent plastic material or a combination of metal and plastic.

  • Patent number: 5680954
Abstract: A molded cap is disclosed having a sealing ring groove just below the cap handle in order to seal crank case gases in an internal combustion engine. The cap includes two spiral grooves for engaging a respective protrusion formed on the inner annular surface of an oil fill snout which receives the cap. A recess is formed at the end of each spiral groove for receiving a respective protrusion to lock the cap into the oil fill snout. The oil fill snout has a draft angle to provide an outside vertical force component on the cap and sealing ring. The vertical force locks the protrusions into the respective recesses and provides a positive sealing force to the sealing ring when the cap is twisted into the snout and into the closed position. The two spiral grooves increase the resistance to back out and create symmetric force components. At the entrance of each groove, a lead-in angle is used to free the cap from the cover by continuing to turn the cap in a counter-clockwise motion.

Abstract: In a safety lock for a container connection (3), at least two cams (9, 10) are arranged at the contacting surfaces of the container connection part (4) and lock part (5) and cooperate with a radially open groove (7) extending in the circumferential direction and with at least two axially parallel grooves (6 and 8) at the counterpart (5 or 4) in the manner of a bayonet catch. In order to obtain a safety lock system having a plurality of safe combination pairs which are absolutely safeguarded against interchanging, it is suggested that the combination pairs having a plurality of cams (9 and 10) and axially parallel grooves (6 and 8) at the container connection part (4) and at the lock part (5) have different circumferential (angular) distances (X1) from one another in the circumferential direction in a plurality of container connections of the same type.

  • Patent number: 5615793
Abstract: A closure for a fuel tank filler pipe comprises a body carrying a seal at one end for engagement with an outer end of the filler pipe, an outer cover, and a latch member at the other end of the body coupled to the cover and having latching projections for engagement with complementary formations on the filler pipe. A spring biases the latch member towards the outer cover so as to urge the seal into engagement with the end of the filler pipe when the latching projections on the latch member are in engagement with the complementary formations on the filler pipe. The connection between the latch member and the outer cover allows a predetermined range of angular movement of the outer cover relative to the latch member in the unlocking direction before unlocking commences.

  • Patent number: 5529202
Abstract: A closure for a container has a lid combining positively interengaging latches with a biasing feature which urges the lid upward with respect to the container in order to more firmly effect latching. A series of projections formed along the interior upper periphery of the container register with latching slots formed along the outer surface of a skirt which depends from the lid, which is dimensioned to fit closely within the opening of the container. An annular flange extends from the outermost periphery of the lid to overlap a portion of the skirt. The outer upper periphery of the container is tapered outwardly to force the flange to flex when the lid is placed on the container thus imparting an upward force to the lid and, thereby, to the lug-and-latch combinations when the lid is turned to register the lugs with the latches. A handle assembly is attachable to the exterior of the container.
