Closure Controls Vent In Receptacle Patents (Class 220/360)
  • Patent number: 5688544
Abstract: A container for packaging a particulate product under pressure or vacuum conditions with an easy opening closure structure which allows venting prior to uncovering of the product opening. In one form, an easy peel flexible lid covers a shelf area and a product opening in the top of the can. Peeling back the lid first uncovers the vent opening, permitting the flow of gases but preventing the flow of particulate product, and then uncovers the product opening. Alternatively, the closure structure may be formed by multiple layers of a flexible material, the lower layer of which has the vent opening which is uncovered by peeling back the top layer, after which the product opening is uncovered.

  • Patent number: 5587192
Abstract: A ventable container comprises a body with a lip hermetically sealed by a film. A hole is provided in the lip of the container and a layer of hot melt adhesive disposed around the hole adhesively seals the film across the hole. When the container and the product are heat processed, the film flexes away from the tray, and the hot melt adhesive layer softens and releases the film for venting of the container. Upon cooling, the film once again bonds to the hot melt adhesive and seals the container.

  • Patent number: 4976381
Abstract: A container of draft beer is substantially filled with beer having a volume of dissolved carbon dioxide greater than 2.6 and not more than 3.1 times the volume of beer. The beer is packaged in a plastic container that is slightly permeable to carbon dioxide, but retains a satisfactory dissolved carbon dioxide content even after a normal shelf life. Beer is dispensed by gravity, without use of external pressure source, after release of head space pressure. Moreover, when the container contents are partially dispensed by the consumer and then maintained at appropriate low temperature for several days, the remaining beer still retains a satisfactory volume of dissolved carbon dioxide. A spigot on the container employs a barrell valve closure member that seals the pressurized container and is movable to a pressure relase position in which pressurized gas within the container is slowly released without forcibly projecting container contents.

  • Patent number: 4445551
Abstract: This invention provides for a quick-disconnect coupling and valve assembly which consists of a single-service coupling and valve assembly and a connector for cooperating therewith. The single-service coupling and valve assembly is comprised of two main parts, namely, a spout fitment for a flexible bag and a valve member which slidably fits within the spout for axial movement. The valve member is provided with an outwardly-opening socket for receiving the connector and this socket has at least one dispensing outlet in the base thereof. In use, the valve member is normally in closed position with the outlet disposed within the spout axially-outwardly of an inner seal between the spout and valve member. A one-way stop arrangement permits axial inward movement of the valve member relative to the spout but prevents axial outward movement, the inward movement opening the valve by moving the outlet inwardly beyond the spout.
