Abstract: A cup-shaped container formed of a molded synthetic resin. A handle is removably secured to a connector portion of the container, with the connection therebetween being constructed to cause an increase in the connection force as a result of weight of liquid placed in the container when the handle is supported as by a person using the container as a drinking cup. In one embodiment, the invention utilizes a closure having frictional engagement with an upper edge portion of the container for selectively closing the same. A connector between the closure and the handle provides an increase in the connection force as a result of the closure being secured to the container edge portion.

Abstract: A protective cover for optical means, such as binocular optical means, having a pair of exposed lens portions which are spaced apart, comprising first and second cover bodies, each having a lens cap portion for being removably secured over a lens portion of the binoculars. Each of the cover bodies has a connecting portion extending from its cap portion. An attachment means is provided for securing the connecting portions of the bodies to the binoculars at a location intermediate its lens portions. The attachment means allows movement of each of the cap portions between a first position proximate to one of the lens portions and a second position away from and intermediate the lens portion of the binoculars. The attachment means urges each of the bodies towards its second position upon being displaced therefrom, so as to avoid interfering with the binoculars when in use.

Abstract: A cylindrical receptacle for holding a winding of sheet material with a hollow core such as toilet paper or paper towels has a central fixed guide member, a sliding guide member, retainers to keep the sliding guide member from disengaging the fixed guide member and to keep the winding from sliding off the sliding guide member and a cap to close the open end of the cylindrical receptacle. The joining of the cap and receptacle body can be made water proof to keep the contents dry. A hanger can be attached to the closed end of the cylindrical receptacle so that the open end hangs downward allowing the paper roll to slide out of the cylinder, yet be retained by the sliding member and retainer in such a manner as to allow easy unrolling of the paper roll.

Abstract: A system is described for securing or connecting a recording tape cassette to a storage case for the cassette. A length of flexible cord is fastened at one end to the tape cassette and at its opposite end to the storage case. If desired, the storage case may remain connected to the tape cassette even when the cassette is being played. The flexible cord is adapted to be enclosed within the storage case when the cassette is placed therein for storage.

Abstract: An obstructing plate construction for a tank having an opening in a top wall thereof and a cover with a base plate having an opening aligned with the opening in the top wall, the obstructing plate construction including an adapter plate mounted between the base plate and the top wall, bolts permanently affixed to the adapter plate for receiving nuts at the underside of the top wall, an opening in the adapter plate aligned with the opening in the top wall and the opening in the base plate, a plurality of nut and bolt assemblies extending through the base plate, adapter plate and top wall for securing them in assembled relationship, an obstructing plate, and locking bolts for selectively securing the obstructing plate to the adapter plate in obstructing relationship to aligned openings in the base plate, adapter plate and top wall.

Abstract: A plastics closure for a can end of the kind having a pouring aperture and a venting aperture comprises a first connecting member which connects a vent plug and a pouring aperture plug and is extended to form a pull tab acting directly on the vent plug. The plugs are rupturably sealed over the respective apertures of collar portions connected by a second connecting member and fitting in the venting aperture and the pouring aperture. Flexible tie means extend from the pouring aperture plug to flexible hinges joined to the venting aperture collar. When the pull tab is lifted the vent plug is torn away from the venting aperture collar to achieve dry venting before the pouring aperture plug is torn away to complete opening for pouring. The plugs are retained captive by the tie means for reclosure of the apertures.

Abstract: The present invention is a high integrity storage container which is particularly well adapted for storage of chemical, radio-nucleide, or other types of waste materials. The body portion will typically be of right rectangular configuration having an open top. An inwardly oriented flange is located completely around the upper periphery of the container body where it acts with a corresponding mating surface on a lid to provide sealing surfaces. A key element is a novel folded gasket located between the mating surfaces of the body and lid. This is oriented with the fold portion toward the outer periphery of the container where it has minimum exposure to the contents. Preferably, the lips or edges of the gasket are bonded to the lid and body flange by a pressure sensitive adhesive to form a tight seal. A resilient strip is located within the folded area of the gasket to urge the adhesive coated surfaces into intimate contact with the mating surfaces of the lid and body flange.

Abstract: A container (10) is disclosed as including a receptacle (12), a cover (14), and a tether (16) that are molded from plastic unitary with each other with the receptacle and cover connected by the tether. Downward cover movement over the receptacle provides a snap action engagement of locking surfaces on mating helical threads (30) and (32) of the receptacle and cover in order to prevent opening movement of the cover without unthreading rotation. The tether (16) has a length that is sufficiently long to permit the initial cover closing and sufficiently short to limit unthreading rotation of the closed cover for opening with the tether intact. Tether (16) is frangible by either cutting with a knife or scissors, etc. or by breaking upon the application of unthreading cover rotation to thereby provide a visual indication of the cover opening in order to render the container tamperproof.

Abstract: A shatter-proof safety cover for the casing of an auxiliary brake mechanism mounted on trucks or trailers, is provided. The cover fits about the casing containing the auxiliary brake operating mechanism and which is subjected to the same air pressure as primarily employed for operating the brakes. The cover is removably retained on the casing by chains or other devices temporarily secured to some stationary part of the vehicle and prevents portions of the casing from flying about and injuring maintenance personnel if the casing had previously been weakened due to exposure to the elements.

Abstract: Between a screw cap and pouring spout a snap device is formed in such a way that an acoustic signal is generated as soon as the seal between cap top and spout edge is compressed by a specific press stroke. Thus, both inadequate sealing pressing and overloading of the seal or threading are largely avoided.

Abstract: A container for holding sharp objects includes a bottle having a body and a rim extending upwardly from the body and defining an opening into the body. A cap is disposed upon the rim in abutting relationship to the rim near the bottom of rim. The rim and the cap define a detent relationship to hold the cap in irremovable relationship on the rim. A funnel made from a relatively soft and pliant material is disposed on the rim between the cap and the rim in sealed relationship with the cap and the rim. The funnel and the rim define a detent relationship to hold the funnel on the rim. The funnel is provided with a portion extending downwardly and inwardly into the opening in the rim at an angle to the rim. The inwardly extending portion is slitted to define a plurality of resilient leaves. The funnel abuts the rim and the cap along the side and top of the rim and the cap.

Abstract: A flask, particularly for carrying alcoholic beverages, comprises a tubular body portion, having a seamless continuous internal surface, with respective inner end members fitted in the body portion to close the ends thereof and respective outer end members secured by soldering to the body portion at the ends thereof to define respective chambers between the inner and outer end members. The solder of the joints is out of contact with the interior of the flask, and any excess solder is received in the chamber, so that in use, liquid in the flask cannot become contaminated by contact with solder. A filling and pouring spout is secured to the inner and outer end members at one end of the flask.

Abstract: A storage and individualized dosage container for pills, tablets and the like consists essentially of a hollow storage receptacle and a closure cap. The receptacle terminates at its upper extremity in an open mouth. The closure cap includes a bottom wall and sidewalls which together define a compartment dimensioned to contain pills, tablets, etc. of the type stored within the receptacle in lesser quantity. The bottom and sidewalls of the closure cap are proportioned and possess sufficient rigidity such that the closure cap is insertable as a plug into the mouth of the receptacle to selectively seal the same. The closure cap has an opening formed therein at a location remote from its bottom wall. A lid is integral with the closure cap and is movable selectively relative to the opening therein to either close the opening or expose it to provide access to the contents of the compartment in the closure cap.

Abstract: A pharmaceutical vial and cap assembly of the kind comprising an open-top vial covered by a cap with a depending peripheral skirt, the inner surface of the cap skirt and the outer surface of the vial having complementary mating interlock elements that preclude manual removal of the cap, the cap including an integral tear member, defined by one or more weakened junction lines, such that pulling away the tear member allows ready manual removal of the cap; the cap top includes a fill hole that for filling the vial with the cap in place, and the fill hole is closed, after filling, by a resilient stopper having a configuration effectively precluding manual removal, so that post-filling tampering and contamination are precluded. The stopper is preferably molded together with the cap, being connected to the cap by an integral strap.

One end of the device can be adhesively secured to a cap and the other end to a stationary surface so that when the cap is removed from its reservoir inlet the cap will hang adjacent thereto.

Abstract: The present invention is an improved sealable vial for storage of materials. The vial includes a tubular body portion sealed at one end and provided with an aperture at the opposite end. The tubular body is further provided with a male spiral thread about the aperture end and a tapered section extending inward from the aperture. A sealing insert is attached to the body for positioning in either a closed position wherein it seals the aperture or an open position wherein the aperture is open. A cap fits over the sealing insert in the closed position and seals the vial. The cap includes female threads which mate with the male threads of the tubular body to secure the closure.The vial is particularly adapted for cryogenic storage of organic samples. The vial is also adaptable to other applications wherein complete sealing is required under wide temperature and pressure range conditions.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of photography and is directed to an improved lens cap holder to support the lens cap in close proximity to the camera when the camera is in use. The present invention is of one piece comprising an outer portion of generally rectangular form which fits around the lens barrel, and an inner portion forming a strap to which a patch of adhesive is affixed for attachment to a lens cap. The width of the strap is greater than its thickness which keeps the lens cap from twirling in the wind. When the outer rectangular portion is stretched around the lens, part of the shorter sides of said portion is distorted so that the outer portion does not overlie and obscure the index mark of many lenses.

Abstract: A fuel cap assembly 10 includes a fuel cap 14 rotatably mounted on one end 28 of a tether 16 which has a second end 36 rigidly secured to a motor vehicle 12. The tether 16 is sufficiently stiff to suspend the gas cap away from the vehicle panel 26 when the cap is disengaged from the spout 18.

Abstract: A sanitary dust cap unit is molded of flexible plastics material and includes a cup-shaped cap portion which snap-fits onto a dispensing check valve projecting from a portable metal tank adapted to contain a beverage. The unit also includes an annular retaining loop portion which surrounds the base of the valve and is integrally connected to the cap portion by a thin card-like tag portion having a width greater than the width of the cap portion. The tag portion is printed with information identifying the beverage and/or beverage producer and is flexible to permit the cap portion to be attached to the valve while the retaining portion surrounds the base of the valve.

Abstract: A one-piece child-resistant dispensing closure for a container which has an open end. The closure has a skirt which mates with the end of the container and a top which spans the space defined by the skirt. Preferably there are two dispensing openings through the top, each of which is surrounded by an upwardly extending rim. The closure also comprises a lid for each opening and a hinge for each lid. The hinges and lids are integral parts of the closure. The lids have similar rims which fit around the rims on the closure top when the lids are swung over to close the dispensing openings. In the closed position, ribs on the edges of the pairs of opposed rims snap over each other and ears on the inner sides of the lids are closely spaced from a fulcrum on the closure top. The engagement of the ribs holds the lids closed. Pry means, such as a coin or blade, may be inserted between the fulcrum and a lid ear to pry the particular lid open.

Abstract: An improved garbage can assembly having a tab lock means for anchoring the garbage can lid to the garbage can handle is disclosed herein. Basically, the improved garbage can assembly comprises a receptacle having a mouth, a lid having a flange which is complementary to and engageable around the mouth of the receptacle, and at least one handle pivotally mounted on the side wall of the receptacle adjacent to the mouth for both securing the lid over the mouth of the receptacle, and providing a closed loop structure for forming a hand grip. A tab lock means integrally connected to the lid is inserted into the closed loop of the handle and serves to anchor the lid to the receptacle whenever the lid is not engaged to the mouth of the receptacle.

Abstract: A sewer relief valve for placement in an existing sewer line connecting a residence or other facility generating sewage and the sewage collection system, the valve comprising connection means adapted to connect into a sewer line, an adapter means in turn operably attached to the connection means, and a cap means attached in air-tight and water-tight fashion to the adapter means, the adapter means also having O-ring sealing means whereby backing up sewage and water interiorly to the sewer pipe will forcibly eject the cap means and permit exterior ground flooding rather than flooding interiorly to the residence or other sewage generating facility.

Abstract: An improved child resistant sifter fitment and closure for containers of harmful products includes an inverted cup-shaped body member formed of resilient plastic material and an integrally molded locking flap connected by an integral hinge to the periphery of the panel portion of the body member. The locking flap folds into a conforming recess in the top surface of the panel, and, in its folded position, all edges of the locking flap are flush with the adjacent top surfaces of the panel. Co-operating locking surfaces are provided on the flap and the body portion to retain the locking flap in its folded position, and to permit limited longitudinal movement of the locking flap relative to the panel. Dispensing openings are provided in the panel underlying the locking flap and an equal number of apertures are provided in the locking flap which are alignable with the dispensing openings by a longitudinal movement of the locking flap relative to the panel.

Abstract: A safety retainer for threaded coupling elements of a valved bush includes a deformable friction locking ring for a threaded safety cap or tube coupling nut adapted to be secured to the bush; a flexible retainer for the cap connected to the locking ring; a special cap nipple insertable into the bore of the bush; a sealing ring in the bore of the bush for engaging the cap nipple; and a tapered tube connector sealing nipple arrangement that engages the sealing ring in the bush in a special manner to preserve the life of the seal. The cap or coupling nut is threaded on the bush and is forced over the locking ring which elastically deforms to hold the cap or nut against unintentional loosening. The cap is held captive by the retainer when it is loosened and removed, and the tube coupling sealing nipple cooperates with the valve in the bush in a desired manner while it does not damage the seal ring in the tube connector side of the bore of the bush. Specific forms of locking rings are disclosed.

Abstract: A device adapted for use with an electrical outlet mounted in a suitable support and having the dual function when the outlet is not in use of preventing drafts of air from flowing through the outlet and blocking accidental access to the outlet. The device uses a relatively flat member having a rear surface adapted to be secured to said support and an exposed front surface. The member has an aperture adapted to overlie and expose the outlet, said aperture having a peripheral wall extending between said rear and front surfaces. The wall has an opening which extends in depth from the rear surface to a position intermediate the front and rear surfaces and which has a uniform width. The member has an outer periphery, a portion of said periphery being disposed adjacent said opening. A cover adapted for removable sealing engagement with said aperture is disposed adjacent said front surface, said cover engaging said peripheral wall when sealing said aperture.

Abstract: A partitioning insert is removably received in the base member of the container. The partitioning walls are larger at the top than at the bottom and terminate in posts which support the remainder of the partitions above the bottom of the container. The top of the container has a stepped flange which rests on and fits about the walls of the bottom of the container. At one end is a releasable latch and at the other is an interengagement between the two members. A part of the top of the container is at a lesser elevation than the remainder and has a vent opening, an air filter and a removable cover assembly.

Abstract: A closing arrangement for a packing container is disclosed including a tubular member that may be firmly anchored within a pouring opening of the container. A cap member closes the tubular member and is provided with a pull-ring. The cap member is joined to the tubular member by a first connecting member which may be broken to open the container. The cap member is also joined to the tubular member by a second connecting member which forms a hinge located diametrically opposite to the pull ring. The second connecting member retains the cap member on the tubular member after the container is opened. The pull ring includes a locking element which cooperates with the tubular member to provide a catch. Upon movement of the pull-ring to open the container, the catch is caused to disengage from the tubular member. In this way, the first connecting element is broken but the catch permits a reclosure of the container. The closing arrangement is preferably made of a plastic material especially polyolefin.

Abstract: In combination with a tool box, a tool box accessory cabinet is secured to a side of the tool box. The accessory cabinet has a base which has therein a plurality of spaced-apart openings. Each opening is to accommodate an elongated tool which has an enlarged head. The enlarged head of the tool is to be located within the confines of the cabinet. The cabinet is to be lockable when closed and when open the top of the cabinet is to cooperate with the base to form an enlarged object supporting tray.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to a pull strip which is molded of plastics material to have hinge sections with a memory so that a strap portion thereof will automatically fold upon itself in such a manner that the removable panel portion attached thereto and removed therewith will be automatically swung to a position radially beyond the end unit and then down alongside the container in a stored, out-of-the-way position.

Abstract: The disclosed invention is a child-proof closure device for a bottle. The device includes a bottle cap which can be placed in sealing disposition with a cap-receiving upper lip on the bottle, and which is removable from the lip of the bottle with rotation and/or upward excursion on and relative to the upper lip of the bottle. The device includes in combination with this cap, a bottom member for fitting over the bottle bottom in releasable snap engagement therewith, and a strap attached between the bottom member and the cap, the bottom member and strap being configured so that the cap cannot be removed from the bottle without first removing the bottom member from the bottle bottom.In certain embodiments of the invention, the length of strap between the cap and bottom member is short enough to restrain upward excursion of the cap and prevent its removal when the bottom member is in place on the bottle bottom.

Abstract: A portable container for gun shells having a self-locking lid, and which may be belt mountable is disclosed. The container is sized preferably to accommodate shot gun shells and is water resistant.

Abstract: A molded plastic drain valve particularly adapted for use with automobile radiators to discharge fluid from a header tank. A drain housing or body of metal is attached by brazing to the tank wall and has an internally threaded bore therethrough terminating in a smaller drain opening encircled by a valve seat formed thereabout. A plastic valve has an external threaded portion and an axially faced sealing portion which moves to engage the valve seat of the housing. The assembly includes a unique means to prevent separation of the valve and housing including a stem which extends from the valve through the drain opening in the housing. It has a head or end portion of slightly less diameter than the drain opening and a small channel or groove located at its back side. A resilient washer member of elastomeric material is supported in the groove and its diameter is significantly larger than the drain opening.

Abstract: An apparatus for washing and carrying elongated objects is provided comprising a generally elongated hollow body, having a first closable opening at one end for inserting and removing the elongated objects from a treatment zone within the body, and a second closable opening in the body for draining liquid from and permitting ventilation of the interior of the apparatus. The second opening is arranged in the body such that an elongated object cannot pass from the treatment zone out through the second opening.

Abstract: A tennis practice device which uses a hollow container which may be filled with sand or water as an anchor for a tennis ball attached to the lid of the container by means of an elongated elastic line. The line is attached to the tennis ball by means of a nylon adapter line which is threaded through the ball and tied in a loop. The elastic line is attached to the lid by means of a swivel hook. The device provides a completely portable tennis practice apparatus which may be filled with a weighty material during use and which serves as a storage container for the tennis ball and line when it is not in use.

Abstract: A dispensing closure having a cap with an opening extending through the top of the cap and having a lid mounted on the cap so that it is capable of being moved between a closed position in which the lid closes off the opening and an open position in which the opening is exposed can be constructed so as to utilize a spring mounting the lid on the cap. One of the ends of the spring employed is secured to the cap so that the spring is incapable of being pivoted relative to the cap while the other of the ends of the spring is pivotally connected to the lid. The spring is connected to the lid at a location such that the spring has to be bent and such that the lid has to be pivoted relative to the spring in order for the lid to be moved between the noted open and closed position. The spring serves to hold the lid relative to the top of the cap so that the lid is held against movement in the open position by the spring.

Abstract: A closure of synthetic resin material has a cap connected to a base which fits onto the container by a hinge joint which may be of the flexible film type and can be molded unitarily with the base and cap. On the opposite side of the cap from the hinge, there is provided a lever which has a pressing plate and a hook, the latter being engageable with a detent on the base so that entered pressure on the plate allows the cap to swing upwardly.

Abstract: An improved container and safety stopper combination of the type which includes a container, a stopper hingedly connected to the lip of the container, and a pin slidably mounted in a slide channel formed in the stopper and having an enlarged outer portion adapted to engage a recess in the lip of the container to lock the stopper in its closed position. Means are provided to prevent the pin from sliding outwardly or inwardly unless manually pulled or pushed respectively. When the stopper is closed and the pin is fully inserted, the upper side of the enlarged outer portion of the pin is spaced from the stopper the minimum distance sufficient to allow the fingernail of an adult user to fit within a laterally extending groove in the enlarged outer portion so that the pin can be pulled outwardly.

Abstract: The blood collector of the present invention is a one-piece molded container consisting of three basic components - a) a base, b) a top, and c) a cap, with connecting straps. The top of the device is lockable to the base by male and female interlocking snap-fit rings, to prevent the top of the collector from "popping" off the base when squeezing the collector to produce suction for the withdrawal of blood from an animal. The tethered cap produces a self-contained unit for transporting blood collected in the field to a laboratory for centrifuging and testing. After centrifuging, by removing the top from the base there is easy accessibility to the plasma or serum.

Abstract: A childproof container and dispenser which is essentially a container, especially a container for holding a fluid therein, and a childproof cap fitted onto the neck of the container for dispensing the contents from the container and for preventing children from easily having access to the contents of the container. The cap has a base portion fitted onto the neck of the container with an orifice opening through the top surface thereof. The contents of the container are dispensed through this orifice. A first groove is formed around the top surface of the base portion. A top portion removably fits over the base portion in the first groove and also has an opening therethrough. There may be a hinge connecting the top portion and said base portion.

Abstract: A drinking cup and support are disclosed for use on movable vehicles wherein the cup is retained by and removably connected to a base secured to the vehicle. A lid on the upper end of the cup is removably connected to the cup handle for retention thereby.

Abstract: A portable carrier for one or more beverage cans or bottles, the carrier being made of a lightweight insulating material such as a foamed synthetic resin which retains the cold (or heat) of the contents of the container. The resin is molded with pocket(s) to receive the beverage containers and is provided with attachment means to which a strap can be attached so that the article carrier can be worn either on a belt carried by a shoulder strap in order to permit the user to withdraw a can or bottle by the use of only one hand. A preferred attachment means includes a harness which is shaped to receive the article carrier and to articulate with a cover on the carrier.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a cap for a liquid tank having a filler neck, such as a fuel tank for an outboard motor, which cap includes a hollow body having a top wall portion for closing the filler neck and a depending annular flange for releasably engaging the filler neck. The interior of the tank is vented to the atmosphere through one or more vent ports located in the top wall portion and the vent port(s) is selectively opened and closed by a closure member including a shank threadably mounted on the top wall portion and a cover portion for opening and closing the vent port when the closure member is turned in opposite directions. A dish-shaped baffle disposed inside the cap body in spaced relationship to the top wall portion serves a baffle to minimize spillage of fuel through the vent port(s) and also defines a chamber for collecting fuel which otherwise might leak through the vent port(s) and for draining the collected fuel back into the fuel tank when the motor or tank is in an upright operating position.
