Abstract: A storage system useful for storing cryogenic liquids is disclosed. The storage system includes a storage vessel, insulation surrounding the storage vessel and a flexible vacuum jacket enclosing them both. The flexible vacuum jacket can be made from a flexible plastic film such as polyimide. Polyimide is preferred due to its ability to remain flexible at cryogenic temperatures. The inner volume of the flexible vacuum jacket is placed under vacuum such that the insulation is maintained under vacuum. The flexible vacuum jacket can collapse against and conform to the insulation when it is evacuated, saving substantially on volume. A fitting for combining multiple passageways is also disclosed, so that multiple passageways can proceed through the vacuum jacket through a single penetration.

Abstract: A spherical object formed of several joint parts, including at least twenty hexagonal panel-type elements and at least twelve pentagonal panel-type elements. Each panel-type element has a radius of curvature such that when joined together, they form a hollow spherical object, the radius of curvature of which is at least 0.75 metres. The panel-type elements are provided with an attachment and handling cap. Around the spherical object are fixed first vacuum components that form an inner vacuum layer, and second vacuum components that form an outer vacuum layer at a distance from the inner vacuum layer in the radial direction of the spherical object. Between the inner vacuum layer and outer vacuum layer are arranged intermediate components forming an intermediate layer. The vacuum components and intermediate components further include fixing means by which they can be fixed in place to the attachment and handling caps.

Abstract: Novel method of preserving the internal environmental air temperature and thereby stabilizing the temperature within the cargo compartment of a transport container, and thereby protecting the cargo itself from degradation due to temperature fluxuations, including a freeze and heat barrier attained through the characteristics of the article of manufacture, composition of matter, and method of preservation of the internal environmental air temperature and proximate cargo within said cargo compartment; along with a machine or devise that is used as either a stand-alone container, or as an insert to retrofit existing containers so as to make said retrofitted devices capable of providing cooling over an extended period of time are disclosed. The inserted cargo compartments described herein are particularly useful for temperature-stabilizing cargo compartment shipping containers that are required to maintain a temperature below ambient for a time sufficient to complete delivery of the container and its contents.

  • Publication number: 20140034655
Abstract: A portable, durable, lightweight cooler system designed to maintain beverages, food, medical supplies, drugs, and other heat sensitive products at existing temperatures with substantially reduced heat gain or loss from the surrounding environment for extended periods of time, when no power source is available. This container is designed to greatly reduce radiant heat transfer along with conductive and convective heat transfer while diminishing decomposition effects of stored items and thus maintaining freshness. This system includes a cooler housing, a reinforced lid, a radiation reflective material application, and a system to remove air from the containment area, thus creating a vacuum within the cooler itself and sealing the lid to the cooler housing. Upon actuation of a vacuum release device, air is reintroduced into the containment area thus allowing the lid to be removed and the stored products be accessed.

Abstract: Insulated containers including at least one insulating material are described herein. The containers may include structures that maximize vacuum area relative to material volume. Certain containers may be configured to minimize the area of contact between material layers within a region to be insulated in order to provide maximum thermal resistance between the contacted area and the external environment. The insulated containers may be formed from a container opening enclosed within a container cover. A cavity may be formed within the space between the container opening and the container cover. The cavity may be vacuum sealed to prevent or reduce thermal leaks from the insulated container. The insulating material may include multiple material layer separated by layer cavities. The material layers may include projections arising from a base surface thereof for preventing the material layers from contacting each other, for instance, and causing a thermal short.
