One-piece With Container Patents (Class 220/606)
  • Patent number: 5529196
Abstract: A one piece plastic container for carbonated beverages has a footed base structure. The upper portion of the base structure includes hollow projections between which are formed relatively stiff strap formations. A deformable open region at the upper end of the strap formations is easily deformed and expands in a controlled fashion when the container is pressurized. Outward movement of the open region causes outward movement of the upper ends of the strap formations which then pivot about the feet causing the lower ends of the strap formations and the central region of the base structure to move upwardly.

  • Patent number: 5501362
Abstract: A thin walled metal container is formed with a bottom wall having a substantially flat central panel connected to a container side wall through an annular rest radius defining an annular support surface for the container. The annular rest radius includes an outer connecting web portion leading into the container side wall and an inner connecting web portion leading into the central panel. In the preferred embodiment, these connecting web portions are permanently joined to each other by welding or adhesive bonding to resist column loading forces acting through the side wall and internal pressure forces acting through the central panel which have the effect of unrolling the annular rest radius. Since these curved opposing portions of the rest radius are immobilized to resist column and internal pressurization, a thinner gauge metal can be used to satisfy design parameters and achieve cost and metal reduction savings.

  • Patent number: 5472139
Abstract: An improved container for storing and transporting a hot pizza product that includes a top and bottom with nonzero Gauss curvatured structures over a major portion of the supporting surface so that less material need be used for fabrication without a lowering of structural integrity. The top and bottom members are adapted to nest with other like tops and bottom members to reduce the need storage space near the pizza oven where they are ready for use without preassembly. The floor of the bottom comprises upstanding projections with small top surface area to reduce the heat conduction path and to support the product above the floor to form an air insulating space between the product and the floor. The bottom member includes a sidewall that intersects the floor to form a supporting line when resting on a supporting surface, thermal conduction being limited to such line. The curved, convex shape of the floor then provides a closed air insulating space between the bottom and the resting surface.

  • Patent number: 5469984
Abstract: A container (1) of thermoplastic material for containing liquids comprises an anti-bulging base (5) comprising a flat ring-shaped section (9) and a central dome-shaped section (11). The diameter of the central dome-shaped section (11) is relatively large and comprises at least 60% of the diameter of the container (1). The central dome-shaped section (11) consists of a lateral wall (15) of relatively large radius of curvature and a relative flat cap (17). The ring-shaped section (9) acts as a spring, giving away to internal pressure build-up in the container, which preferably is a household bleach bottle of polyethylene. Thus the pressure on the central dome-shaped part (11), which is designated for minimum thickness and maximum strength, is relieved.

The interior of the enclosure body may be molded as a generally open rectangular region or may include molded features for receiving and supporting specific lighting instruments within its interior. The hollow walls of the molded enclosure body are filled with polyurethane foam for reinforcing the walls and damping their movement. A perforated metal stiffening frame is molded into the base of the enclosure body during the molding process for added strength. The underside of the enclosure body provides a plurality of casters for easy movement. The storage trunk features a unitized, seamless construction having no fasteners or external reinforcements to leak, snag other objects, or fall off.

Each of the arcuately extending downward projections has a first inclined portion contiguous to the longitudinal axis, a second inclined portion situated radially outside of, and axially displaced downwardly from, the first inclined portion, a generally perpendicular ring segment having an upper edge united with the first inclined portion by a curved portion having a radius of between about 0.015 in. and 0.060 in., and a lower edge united with the second inclined portion.

Abstract: A plastics bottle for carbonated drinks has a side wall (4) and a base (5) formed with a central area (8) surrounded by circumferentially spaced projecting feet (6) separated by substantially parallel-sided straps (7). The central area (8) and the straps (7) define a continuous smooth domed surface with no re-entrant portions. The ratio of the combined width of the straps (7) to the outside circumference of the base (5) is in the range from 1:5.5 to 1:6.5 and preferably 1:6. Preferably the base (5) has only seven projecting feet (6). This configuration is particularly useful with bottles of small size and enables a saving in plastics material of up to 40% by weight.

Abstract: A polyester container particularly adapted for hot fill applications having an improved base configuration. The container base has an outer circular ring defining a support plane for the container with a central outwardly concave dome portion therein. The dome portion includes a number of reinforcing rings formed along concentric tangent lines. In accordance with several embodiments, the circular rings are uninterrupted, whereas in other embodiments, the rings are interrupted at regular angular intervals with relatively smooth zones or hemispherical pockets therebetween. The containers provide excellent mechanical stability in response to positive and negative pressure within the container, and also in response to unrelaxed retractive stresses within the container material which tend to cause deformation of the container, particularly when exposed to elevated temperatures during demolding of the container and during the hot fill cycle.

  • Patent number: 4993567
Abstract: An improved base configuration for a blow molded plastic container used in hot-fill applications. The base consists of a peripheral support ring that is generally concentric with the container side walls and connected to a central dome portion. The dome extends upwardly into the body cavity of the container and terminates in a central disk region that is also concentric with the container side walls. A number of raised involute embossments radiate about the central disk in a substantially spiral fashion downward along the dome. The embossments are limited to that area of the dome where unrelaxed retractive stresses may be formed during blow molding of the container. The embossments increase the amount of material in the base which becomes sufficiently oriented so as to resist the deformation induced by the unrelaxed retractive stresses during hot filling of the container.

This extrusion can be cut to suitable lengths and welded at the corners to form a sealed rectangular container bottom. A bottom panel is welded around its peripheral edge to the extrusion lengths. Reinforcing I-beams can be placed across the bottom and laterally spaced openings can be cut in the ends and sides of the bottom portions for receiving fork-lift tines.
