Sonic Seal Patents (Class 220/DIG31)
  • Patent number: 5256225
Abstract: A method of securing a two piece plastic nozzle and overlying screw cap closure assembly to a plastic pail cover wherein the nozzle has a cylindrical body portion which is inserted into a cover opening to form a friction fit therewith. The overlying screw cap is then rigidly supported as a sonic welding horn is brought into axial engagement with the protruding nozzle body portion. Energization of the sonic welding horn causes the nozzle body portion to soften and deform radially outwardly into a circumferentially enlarged rivet connection. Continued axial displacement of the sonic welding horn creates a plastic bond about the periphery of the rivet connection so as to close off any leakage path therearound. At the same time any radial dispersion of plastic material resulting from the bonding process is locally contained about the rivet connection periphery.

  • Patent number: 4979619
Abstract: A transparent plastic case is provided for the protective long term storage of sports cards. The case is comprised of front and rear panels of matching elongated rectangular perimeter adapted to be cohesively sealed to enclose a sports card and a documentation card. The dimensions of the case relative to the sports card are such that the sports card within a sealed case is free to move slightly. The panels are further configured to facilitate stacking of a number of the cases.

  • Patent number: 4560827
Abstract: The electric fencer includes two plastic components having an interfitting groove and rib, as well as integral pins on one component which are pressed into recesses in the other component. The two components are sonically welded together to form a completely sealed housing. Additionally, a grommet resists the entrance of moisture along the power cord, as well as firmly gripping the power cord. The grommet is composed of a U-shaped groove on one component and a tongue on the other component, the tongue pressing against the power cord's insulation so that some of the insulation is forced into the U-shaped groove. The top of the housing overhangs the front panel so as to shield the light coming from a small neon light so that the light can be more readily seen in direct sunlight, the side walls inclining forwardly so that their upper portions assist in the shielding action.

  • Patent number: 4554034
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for bonding an overlapping portion of the outer cap (7,7') and inner body (6, 6') of a closed cylindrical capsule (5). A flexible tubular coupling (13,14,20) positioned around the circumference of the capsule (5) is compressed to exert an inward radial force (23) on the capsule (5) while ultrasonic vibratory motion is applied in a direction (12,12') parallel to the axis of the capsule (5) by an ultrasonic transducer (10,10') with a rigid tip (11,11') attached to the coupling (13,14,20). For bonding of gelatinous capsules (5), the unitary coupling (20) or split coupling (13,14) can comprise a polymeric elastomer material such as latex rubber with approximately the same acoustical impedance as the capsule (5).

  • Patent number: 3952868
Abstract: A cigarette packet of a laminated sheeting is disclosed which comprises an outer, thermally-bonded weldable layer, and wherein the end flaps of the blank forming the packet are joined to each other and project beyond the end sides. The end flaps are folded in such a way that an inner, longitudinal end flap bears on the packet contents, and two side end flaps are folded on this longitudinal end flap, and a second outer longitudinal end flap on the side of the first inner longitudinal end flap. The particular improvement disclosed utilizes a laminated foil having on both sides an outer thermally bondable layer, which extends over the entire end face of the layer and along an edge turned toward the edge of the inner longitudinal end flap. The side end flaps are joined at their diagonals along a welding strip which extends on a diagonal fold line adjoining the weld strip which extends along the length of the end face.
