The actuating has an edge surface which is located, in the initial secure position, facing a rim of the cut-out parallel to the actuating direction, the movement in the second degree of freedom being a movement of pushing-in until the edge surface is clear of the rim.

    Abstract: A pressure regulating valve reduces the increased internal pressure in an aerosol spray can, filled with compressed gas, to a working pressure level for a spray valve (12). A regulating piston (52) is kept in equilibrium by a restoring force, and a sealing point (66, 68) is provided, which is closed at a pressure in the pressure regulation chamber (84) that is above the regulated pressure level. To prevent the precision of regulation from being adulterated by the decreasing internal pressure of the can as its contents are progressively withdrawn, a sealing means (86, 66; 67) is proposed, which seals off one free end of the piston (52, 74) from the internal pressure of the can and the regulated pressure. The variable internal pressure of the can is therefore no longer able to act on any axial face of the piston (52), and despite what may be a smaller piston face area, the precision of regulation is improved.

A locking ring attaches an adapter plate to a pump head. When the locking ring is in a locked position, a magnet of the locking ring is detected by a reed switch. If the locking ring rotates from the locked position, the reed switch does not detect the magnet, indicating that the locking ring, and therefore the pump head, is incorrectly or not completely installed. The controller then stops operation of the pump.

The actuator assembly is mountable to the aerosol container and includes a burstable barrier and an extrudable (e.g. paste) plug. Upon initial activation, the pressure from inside of the container presses the burstable barrier which in turn presses the paste plug to cause at least a portion of the plug to move to a position where it is visible and provides a cue that a delay period has started. The device can be manually activated, but is designed so that thereafter it does not need to be manually held open. The user has time to leave the room before spraying begins, and does not need to be present in the room before spraying has finished.

The diaphragm is held in the open position while there is elevated pressure of active in the can and/or due to a latch that activates as the diaphragm moves to the dispensing position.

The pump chamber has an outlet value that is urged towards a closed position by the pressure from the fluid while the pump is being actuated, and is opened mechanically by a valve control element at the end of actuation. Once the full dose has been prepared, the outlet valve is kept in the open position while the fluid is expelled from the pump chamber. This prevents the flow of fluid from closing the outlet valve again before the full dose of fluid has been expelled.

Frangible ribs are provided to avoid the inadvertent actuation of the actuator and also guide movement of the finger tab.
