  • Patent number: 8741236
Abstract: Covers for microwells, the covers comprising open portions to allow a pipette access to one or more wells and impermeable portions which prevent the liquids from getting into wells shielded by the impermeable portion. The open portions and impermeable portions are preferably arranged and sized to align with alternating rows of wells in a particular microplate. Preferred covers are movably positioned on the microplate. Automated dispensing apparatus for use with microplates and microwell covers comprises a programmable controller, and suitable interfaces which allow the apparatus to be programmed, and which control a dispensing head such that pipettes are moved in the desired manner in order to take advantage of the protective features of the microwell covers. The apparatus also preferably comprises at least one transfer mechanism for moving a cover relative to a microplate at a dispensing station.

  • Patent number: 6722528
Abstract: A method and apparatus for translating linear movement into rotational movement in an actuator configuration is provided. For example, a rotary actuator assembly includes a housing having a central bore. A piston is disposed within the housing and is linearly movable along an axis of the central bore. A rolling diaphragm is disposed within the housing and coupled with the piston. A bifurcated linkage having an end flange couples with the piston and the rolling diaphragm. An articulatable coupling further connects the bifurcated linkage with a rotating linkage. A spring button, which can be cone shaped, is disposed within the housing. A compression spring is retained between the end flange of the bifurcated linkage and the spring button, for example, by a threaded rod and nut. The assembly is arranged such that when force is applied to the rolling diaphragm the bifurcated linkage is linearly transported, which results in the pivoting of the rotating linkage about a pivot point.

  • Patent number: 4899886
Abstract: A package for displaying and dispensing cards, including a front panel and a rear panel forming a recess therebetween in which cards may be placed. The front panel has an opening therein through which the cards may be seen and through which a finger may touch and push on the card. A resilient biasing means is placed in the recess at a position between the cards firmly in the recess. A cam surface is formed along the edge of the recess with the opening so that when the card is pushed toward the opening, a single card engages the cam surface and part of it moves out of the recess so that it may be readily grasped and removed from the recess.

  • Patent number: 4588113
Abstract: A combined drop and broadcast spreader for granular material is mountable on the implement of a front end loader. The spreader includes a hopper containing a plurality of discharge openings in the bottom. A rotatable impeller in the bottom forces the granular material from the openings during drop spreadings. A rotatable spreader means is coupled to the rear wall of the hopper for discharging granular material in an arc-like pattern. The rear of the hopper includes a door for selectively supplying granular material from the hopper to the spreader means for broadcast spreading.
