Abstract: An improved concentrate/extract cartridge is provided for dispensing a liquid in an accurate and repeatable manner. The cartridge includes an electromagnetically actuated piston connected to a valve. The piston includes an exterior ring supported by a hollow interior web that is configured to permit a flow of fluid into the dispensing tube when the valve body is in contact with the valve seat. A membrane is located below the web and is in sealing contact with the internal ring when the piston is activated. This allows a precise and repeatable amount of the liquid to be dispensed with each stroke. Dispensers for dispensing the liquid from the cartridge for a number of applications are also provided. The dispensers each include an actuating coil into which the dispensing tube is inserted. A controller is connected to the coil for controlling the actuation of the piston/valve assembly for dispensing the fluid in the cartridge as required for the particular application.

  • Patent number: 7275663
Abstract: A manifold includes a plurality of inlet passages provided in fluid communication between an inlet and an outlet passage. A housing retains a pressurized gas cartridge in sealed fluid communication with each of the inlet passages. A check valve is located in at least one of the inlet passages. The check valve is biased to a closed position that prevents gas from flowing through the check valve to the inlet of the inlet passage. Thus, gas cannot exit through the inlet when a pressurized gas cartridge is not sealed thereto. The housing retains a viscous product cartridge and forms a gas enclosure separated from a product enclosure by a movable wall. The gas from the pressurized gas cartridges passes into the gas enclosure and generates a force on the movable wall to dispense product from the product cartridge.

  • Patent number: 7237693
Abstract: A dual fluid cartridge for storing and dispensing fluids in unequal ratios is disclosed. The dual fluid cartridge disclosed defines two fluid chambers for a fluid to be held in greater amount and defines another fluid chamber for a fluid to be held in lesser amount. The two fluid chambers holding the fluid of greater amount are in fluid communication with one another through a delivery channel. Because of this arrangement, the dual fluid cartridge is very suitable and highly effective in situations where a dual fluid cartridge is needed to store and dispense fluids of unequal ratios (e.g. a 10:1 ratio, a 9:1 ratio, an 8:1 ratio, a 7:1 ratio etc.). With such an arrangement, the amount of space wasted in the cartridge is minimized, which maximizes the amount of fluids that can be stored in the cartridge. As a result, the total final product that can be dispensed from the dual fluid cartridge is also maximized.

  • Patent number: 6874657
Abstract: A method for dispensing a bilogical sealant and a dispensing system for dispensing the biological sealant are described. The dispensing system comprises a dispenser and a plurality of cartridge for delivering a biological sealant to an application site. The sealant is presented as a multi-component liquid sealant, with each component contained in a cartridge comprising a tubular body closed at one end with a pierceable seal and closed at the other end by a piston element movable axially within the tubular body. The dispenser coprises a plurality of recesses to receive respective cartridges containing the components of the sealant. Each recess includes means to establish a fluid connection with the cartridge placed within the recess. The dispenser further comprises means for engaging the piston elements of the cartridges to move the piston element axially so as to expel the sealant components. Ducting within the dispenser leads the sealant components to a dispensing point.

  • Patent number: 6854620
Abstract: A pump system for an infusion system includes a linear drive (36, 36?) which minimizes the space occupied by the pump components in a portable housing (10, 10?). A motor (34) and a motor drive shaft (42) are arranged in parallel with, and adjacent to a syringe (14, 14?) and lead screw (94, 94?). A gear box (54) connects the drive shaft and lead screw to transfer rotational movements between them. A piston driving member, such as a cone (116) or drive nut (116?) converts the rotational movement of the lead screw into linear motion of a syringe piston (24). Sensors (150, 152) detect when the piston or cone is in a “home” position and in an “end” position, respectively. Optionally, a proximity sensor (170) is used to ensure that the cone and the piston (24) are abutting during dispensing. Alternatively, a clamping member (350) selectively clamps the lead screw (94?) against linear motion in at least a dispensing direction.

  • Publication number: 20040226968
Abstract: A nozzle is used in a hand held dispenser of viscous fluid including caulking, sealant or adhesive. The nozzle has an elongated body that extends along a longitudinal axis, defining a fluid path extending between a dispensing end and a base. The base includes a coupling to secure the nozzle to a dispensing device or to a container of the viscous fluid. The nozzle includes a variable flow valve that operates through a range of positions, between a fully closed position and a fully open position. The valve operates within a housing that extends across the longitudinal axis of the body. A second coupling connects the valve to a hand control on the dispenser. Preferably, the valve rotates between the closed and open positions. The nozzle is also included in a dispensing gun. The dispensing gun includes a hand activated control on the gun handle. The control operates the valve between the closed and open positions and co-acts to urge the fluid contents of the dispensing gun to flow through the nozzle.

Abstract: An ampoule for containing a specified amount of liquid inside to be used for a liquid atomizer has a tubular main body having an open front part including an outlet at one end and an open back part at an opposite end. A piston is inserted into the main body from the open front part in an airtight manner and is slidable axially inside the main body. Another piston is inserted into the main body from the open back part in an airtight manner so as to be slidable axially inside the main body. The two pistons form a reservoir in between for storing a liquid. The forwardly located piston has a weakened part on the side that faces the reservoir. As a sharp member extending from the other piston penetrates this weakened, the reservoir and the outlet become connected and the liquid inside the reservoir is discharged.
