  • Patent number: 7699190
Abstract: An aerosol valve actuator with a top portion rotatable on a bottom portion. The entire top portion in one rotatable position is depressible vertically to actuate the valve. A click post and clicking rib provide a single click in each direction of rotation. Flanges on top and bottom portions interact to stop rotation as soon as each click occurs. Plastic springs interact with spring biasing members only when the top portion is in actuating position, and assure return of the actuator top portion to full upward position for rotation after actuation of even a short-stemmed valve. Downwardly extending flexible connecting flanges connect the actuator top and bottom portions. The top portion has a lower periphery with a plurality of upwardly extending indentations to overlie lateral ribs in the lower portion in actuation position. The top and bottom portions have interfitting cylinders to stabilize the top portion and maintain verticality.

Abstract: A masking device to prevent over-spray when using an aerosol can to apply aerosols to a work surface. The device includes a horizontal channel structure, the back end of which is essentially open and serves as an insertion point for an aerosol nozzle feed tube from an aerosol can, while the front end serves as an attachment seat for a masking unit. The back end of the horizontal channel is open, providing the user access to the aerosol nozzle in order to actuate the aerosol nozzle with a finger, whereby an aerosol is propelled forward into a masking unit. The masking unit has a small orifice creating a planar opening at the back, and a large orifice creating a generally planar opening at the front The masking unit is essentially hollow, providing the ability to contain an aerosol, the large orifice serving as a mask against a target surface.

Abstract: An improved actuator is disclosed for actuating an aerosol valve for dispensing an aerosol product from an aerosol container. The improved actuator comprises a base for mounting to the aerosol container. A unitary actuator button supports a nozzle extending between the aerosol valve and a terminal orifice. The actuator button is rotatable about the base between a locked rotational position and an unlocked rotational position. The unitary actuator button is movable for pivoting the nozzle button to actuate the aerosol valve for dispensing aerosol product from the terminal orifice when the actuator button is in the unlocked rotational position. The unitary actuator button is inhibited from pivoting the nozzle button when the actuator button is rotated into the locked rotational position.

Abstract: A portable oxygen supply unit for breathable air with an enhanced oxygen content has a tilt valve in a mounting cup on a pressurized container containing medical or aviators oxygen. A hollow housing is sealed to the mounting cup. The hollow housing is flowably connected to a mouthpiece and to an inlet for ambient air. A user can open the tilt valve with an actuator that is slidable in the hollow housing. When the valve is open, the pressurized oxygen flows into the hollow housing. As the user inhales through the mouthpiece the oxygen released from the container is diluted with ambient air drawn through the inlet for efficient use of the oxygen dispensed from the container.

Abstract: A product refill for a housing includes an actuator cap and a container of product. The actuator cap includes a base portion having a mounting end, a central actuator member having a substantially axially oriented discharge orifice, and an axially movable actuator cap portion flexibly connected to the base portion. First and second unshielded outer contact surfaces of the movable portion are separated by an arcuate distance of at least about 90 degrees wherein pressure applied to both of the surfaces axially displaces the surfaces and thus the movable portion toward the mounting end in a generally non-tilting manner thereby displacing the actuator member to an actuating position thereof. A length between at least one of the outer contact surfaces and a centerline of the cap is greater than about one-quarter a largest lateral dimension across the product refill.
