Patent number: 4892236Abstract: A measure for use in dispensing drinks and other liquids which are of relatively high viscosity, such as cream based liqueurs, having a measuring chamber with an entry port and an exit port, an internal operating standard and an actuator to move the internal operating standard between a dispensing position in which it seals the entry port and a resting position in which it seals the exit port. The dispensing measure is also provided with a nose external to the measuring chamber, whereby having an external surface for guiding fluid flow which is fluid being dispensed from the measuring chamber flows through the exit port, on the external surface of the nose and into a receptacle held beneath. The internal operating standard has a portion which is cylindrical and fits slidably within a cylindrical internal wall of an outlet portion positioned at the exit port so that the internal wall is wiped clean as the internal operating standard returns to its resting position.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 1990Date of Patent: January 9, 1990Assignee: R. and A. Patent number: 4811871Abstract: A dosing device for dispensing liquid from a container comprises an outlet passage for the liquid and an obturator, such as a flap or piston, that is adapted to be driven to block the outlet passage, once a quantity of liquid has been dispensed, under the influence of liquid flowing from the container through a small aperture into a space behind the obturator in a chamber in which the obturator is movable. The outlet passage has a convoluted configuration whereby flow of liquid through it is directed at least partly back towards the obturator to exert a back-pressure thereon, the obturator being of a dimension such that it may be acted on by liquid in part of the passage in which the flow is thus directed back. The chamber may have a moveable wall portion that opens up a large aperture to allow rapid restoration of the obturator to its start position.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1987Date of Patent: March 14, 1989Assignee: The English Glass Company LimitedInventors: Anthony Wass, Brian Law

Patent number: 4784300Abstract: A device for dispensing a predetermined, measured quantity of liquid from an inverted bottle incorporates a delay mechanism whereby a plunger within the measuring chamber is held in an open condition for a predetermined period of time sufficient to ensure delivery of the entire contents of the measuring chamber. The delay mechanism is associated with a linkage system whereby an operating member disposed adjacent to the outlet of the measuring chamber is coupled to the plunger and comprises a piston which is driven in a cylinder by a spring at a rate determined by the rate at which a fluid flows through a restricting orifice.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1987Date of Patent: November 15, 1988Assignee: Hanwin Supplies LimitedInventor: Colin Lees

Patent number: 4508246Abstract: A check for use with an invertible water bottle and a water dispenser. The check includes a cap member for secure attachment to the mouth of the water bottle, the cap member having an aperture therethrough to allow water to freely pass therethrough when the bottle is inverted; and includes a float for momentarily closing the aperture in the cap member when the bottle is first inverted.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1983Date of Patent: April 2, 1985Inventor: James F. Grenn

Patent number: 4469255Abstract: An automatic and adjustable valving mechanism is disclosed in which a spray of pressurized fluid from a pressurized source having a pressure release gate, such as an aerosol can, is released in intermittent sprays occurring in cycles of adjustable length. The valving mechanism consists of a body having an actuating bar mounted on drive rods which can be latched in an elevated position by a latch plate. Contact between the actuating bar and the nozzle of a pressure source, such as an aerosol can, releases pressurized fluid from the aerosol can into a first internal chamber of the valving mechanism. The pressurized fluid acts upon a diaphragm to force hydraulic fluid from a first chamber into a second chamber, which has the effect of raising a piston which, in turn, raises the rods supporting the actuating bar, so that the discharge of the pressurize fluid from the nozzle of the aerosol can is terminated.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1982Date of Patent: September 4, 1984Assignee: Cook International, Inc.Inventors: James J. Hill, Al Marven

Patent number: 4310038Abstract: Liquid dispensing metering valve for attachment to the outlet of an inverted beverage bottle has upper and lower chambers separated by an apertured opening. The lower chamber has a dispensing opening closed by a ball plug movable in the chamber and having a portion protruding out through the opening so that it can be lifted from its seat by contact with ice cubes in a glass or the like. A buoyant ball in the upper chamber descends to partially block the opening between the chambers as the chambers empty into a glass. When the dispensing opening closes, liquid leaking past the buoyant ball fills the lower chamber and then it floats to the top of the upper chamber as it fills for re-use.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1980Date of Patent: January 12, 1982Inventor: Lance S. Yule

Patent number: 4220266Abstract: A refrigerator freezer door has an ice service area in its outer face including an actuator for opening a passage closure member. Upon depressing the actuator a switch is closed to energize a power driven ice dispenser in the freezer compartment which discharges ice pieces down a chute and into the passage through the freezer door to the service area. A suction cup positioned on the actuator has an air bleed passageway to delay return movement of the actuator and closing of the closure member until the chute has emptied its ice pieces into the passageway.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1978Date of Patent: September 2, 1980Assignee: White Consolidated Industries, Inc.Inventors: Ralph S. Braden, Louis D. Benasutti, Jerry L. Neubauer

Patent number: 4201317Abstract: A manually operable dispenser pump construction wherein liquid product is received from a supply container into an axially compressible bellows. The bellows in turn includes product discharge valve means associated therewith and adapted to move between open discharge and closed storage valve positions by movement of the bellows. In one form of the invention the product discharge valve valve includes a gooseneck portion integral with the bellows and which is moved out of closed position by said axial bellows compression. In another form the product discharge valve includes a generally circular gasket axially disposed between the bellows and its actuation means wherein said gasket is adapted to move into and out of sealing contact with a valve seat dependent on the compression of said bellows.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1977Date of Patent: May 6, 1980Inventor: Hans P. Aleff

Patent number: 4004606Abstract: A reversible flush valve is presented which may be manually actuated and is self-closing. The valve has a spool valve element, one end of which controls communication between a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, and the other end of which defines a control chamber. A plug movable between two positions determines the mode or direction of operation of the valve. A passageway through the spool communicates with the control chamber via a flexible valve in the form of a resilient and compressible rubber ring which controls the rate of closing of the valve.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1975Date of Patent: January 25, 1977Inventor: Earl W. Carson

Patent number: 3968905Abstract: Timed release of measured quantities of an aerosol spray is accomplished by attachment of an improved dispenser to a conventional aerosol container. The contents of the container are controllably passed through a porous sintered plug and a flow restricting orifice into a measuring chamber in the body of the dispenser. The exit passage of this chamber is sealed by a spring disk which is concave upward with its periphery seated against a shoulder encircling the exit orifice. As the container contents enter the chamber, the pressure therein rises until it is sufficient to overcome the spring resistance of the disk. When this occurs, the disk snaps into its stressed condition, assuming a concave downward shape. It is then supported on projections formed on the exit orifice shoulder. These projections retain the stressed disk in spaced relation to the exit orifice and allow a quantity of the chamber contents to pass around the disk and escape through a nozzle mounted on the exit orifice.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1975Date of Patent: July 13, 1976Assignee: Continental Can Company, Inc.Inventor: Peter G.
