    Abstract: A piston device for loading material into a tube or other implement. In an example, the material is a smoking material loaded into a smoking implement. An example piston device includes a cylinder and a piston. The piston is removed from a first end of the cylinder and inserted into a second end of the cylinder. A cap slip locks onto the second end of the cylinder to provide a surface on which to compress the material against. Withdrawing the piston from the second end of the cylinder draws the smoking material into a chamber of the cylinder through an opening in the first end of the cylinder. Pressing the piston into the second end of the cylinder compresses the smoking material within the chamber of the cylinder, and then releases the smoking material from the chamber of the cylinder into the smoking implement.

When the stopper element is in a dispensing configuration, the first aperture between is closed and the second aperture is opened to allow fluid from the second chamber to flow exterior from the container. In this manner, a measured amount of fluid from the container can be dispensed in a single movement without using a secondary measuring receptacle.

Opening of the closure permits the plunger to be withdrawn from the barrel to draw fluid into the barrel through the inlet opening and the inlet valve. Return of the plunger into the barrel closes the inlet valve and forces the fluid in the barrel through the outlet passage and the outlet valve in the plunger.

This ratio is based on the Brix ratio of the beverage. The liquid level on the other cup is compared against the level defined by an indicia on the slider.

    Abstract: A rotary shaft is inserted to a tank through a hole formed in a wall of the tank. A casing is provided outside the tank, and the rotary shaft is supported by a bearing arranged in the casing. The casing is watertightly connected to the wall including the hole through a flexible joint. Seal members are arranged in the casing to seal the clearance between the rotary shaft and the casing. A sleeve is fitted on the rotary shaft so that the sleeve is watertightly in contact with at least one of the seal members, and the sleeve can be moved along the rotary shaft to change the seal member in contact with the sleeve. The bearing and the seal member are not affected by the deformation of the tank since the flexible joint connects the tank and the casing, and the rotary shaft can rotate smoothly while securing high sealing quality. The alignment of the axes of the bearing and the hole in the tank can be easy since the bearing is provided outside of the tank, and thus assembly and maintenance of the structure are easy.

    Abstract: An apparatus for melting and dispensing rapidly degradable reactive adhesive such as moisture curable hot melt adhesive from a thermally conductive, sealed container includes a housing within which the container is supported in a position to engage a heated surface of a platen. The platen is mounted within the housing in fluid communication with a heated manifold carrying a gear pump. The platen melts the adhesive within the container and provides for the transfer of heat uniformly throughout the stream of melted adhesive discharged through the outlet of the container. The melted adhesive is transmitted from the platen into the gear pump in the manifold which is thermally isolated from the platen to maintain the adhesive therein at a substantially constant temperature.

A force transmitting unit is coupled to the actuator for causing the actuator to move the diaphragm in a direction from the extended position towards a completely retracted position to dispense the liquid from the container.

    Abstract: A dispensing package for cosmetic cream products which automatically and progressively indicates when the product has nearly been depleted by the user. The package includes a deformable fin cantilevered from the piston which contacts the underside of the wall on which applicating surface is formed and is thereby bent in the direction of an orifice in the applicating surface. Further advance of the piston causes the fin to progressively cross the orifice, becoming visible from the exterior. As the piston is further advanced towards the applicating surface, continued deformation of the fin causes it to advance fully across the orifice, thereby indicating to the user that the cream product is nearly depleted. The invention is well suited to dispensing packages which contain and dispense cream deodorants and antiperspirants.

    Abstract: A dual chamber Brix measuring cup which can be used to determine whether a fountain syrup dispenser is dispensing the proper ratio of water to syrup, referred to a a Brix measurement. The cup is basically two abutting cylindrical chambers, one to receive water dispensed from the nozzle and the other adapted to receive the syrup by means of a diverter tube. The cross sectional areas of the water and syrup chambers are in the ratio of the ideal water to syrup ratio in the dispensed product. In a first embodiment, a series of calibrated marks are provided on each of the two chambers, such that the mismatch of column heights can be translated into a reading of acceptability, for example if the syrup and water heights are within two lines of each other, that enable a tolerance band of acceptable mismatches to be easily seen visually. In a second embodiment, a slider element is provided which is vertically slideable on the syrup chamber.

    Abstract: A discharge valve assembly for a fire extinguisher container includes a housing defining a passageway providing communication between the container outlet and a nozzle. An elongated tubular valve stem is axially movable in the passageway between open and closed conditions with respect to a valve seat in the passageway, the stem projecting from the passageway for engagement by an actuating lever. An elongated indicating rod, shorter than the valve stem, is coaxially movable therein between extended and retracted conditions. A bias spring and the pressure in the container holds the valve stem closed, and the pressure in the container holds the indicating rod extended. A bias spring urges the indicating rod toward a retracted position. To check the pressure the indicating rod is manually depressed, the extent to which it returns to its extended condition being indicative of the magnitude of the pressure in the container.

    Abstract: An attachment suitable for attaching to standard sized cans of vegetable shortening or the like in which a two-piece clamp attaches to the top rim of the can to lock the clamp member against axial movement. A pusher plate fits in the bottom of the can and is supported by a longer, standard can or a push base. A cylinder is fitted over the central opening and locked within the flange against axial movement. A plunger fits in the cylinder. The shortening is dispensed by pushing against the clamping member which moves the can down about the push plate forcing shortening up through the central opening into the cylinder. The plunger moves up until index marks on the plunger indicate the desired amount of shortening has been extruded.
