Abstract: A liquid dispenser has an augering screw that serves both a metering function and a valving function. The augering screw is axially movable between a position in which fluid can flow and a sealing position in which liquid flow through the nozzle is substantially prevented. The screw is preferably designed with a curved contour between the threads and with a plurality of thread-defining channels to allow liquid to fill more completely around the screw and to dispense more liquid with fewer screw turns than prior screw designs.

Abstract: A syrup delivery system delivers flavored syrup. A solenoid introduces air into the system and into an inlet of an exhaust diverter including a flexible diaphragm. The air exits the exhaust diverter through an outlet for entry into a syrup valve that dispenses the syrup. After dispensing of the syrup, the solenoid blocks air from entering the system. The air from the syrup valve reenters the exhaust diverter through the outlet. The air exits the exhaust diverter through the contaminated air exhaust. The air pushes on the flexible diaphragm, which contacts a seating surface around the inlet, preventing the air from exiting the exhaust diverter through the inlet. The remaining air in the system passes into the expansion tank and is diffused, causing any contaminates in the air to fall to the bottom of the expansion tank. The exhaust air is also subjected to a turbulent air flow path in the expansion tank that further separate any contaminants from the air.

Abstract: A dispensing valve is shown that controls the flow of a fluid, the valve having a housing containing a cylindrical/tubular passageway between an inlet and outlet of the valve. A rod like closure member is operable to move through the passageway from a first position in which the valve is fully closed, to a second position in which the valve is fully open. The exterior surface of the closure member engages the interior surface wall of the passageway to seal the passageway and the interior surface wall and/or the exterior surface of the closure member have helical/spiral grooves therein. A spiral flow passage is defined through which the fluid can flow on its passage from the inlet to the outlet when the closure member moves away from its first position. Abstract: The present invention pertains to a device for applying fluid material on a substrate. The device includes a valve body, a pole piece, and an electromagnetic drive unit that generates a magnetic field that moves the valve body relative to a pole piece between a closed position that interrupts the flow of material and an open position that releases the flow of material. The effect of the magnetic field provided by the drive unit is strengthened by the presence of a flux element. The flux element incorporates a portion, such as a slit, that eliminates circumferential electrical current paths, which allows the flux element to demagnetize more quickly when the drive unit is de-energized to remove the electromagnetic field. The rapid demagnetization decreases the cycle time for moving the valve body from the open position to the closed position.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for correcting a cock driving device in a beverage dispense. A manipulating lever for a dispensing cock is correctly opened and closed at all times by the cock driving device. The manipulating lever for the dispensing cock is provided with an interlock member which moves back and forth integrally with the lever, and the interlock member is provided with a magnet. A pair of hole elements capable of sensing the magnet are arranged one behind the other, spaced from each other, on a mounting plate arranged on a slider. The magnet is set to face an intermediate position of both hole elements of the slider staying at a standby position, with the dispensing cock staying at a neutral position. A control board moves the slider for correction to a position at which the magnet reaches the intermediate position of the hole elements if the magnet does not face the intermediate position of the pair of hole elements.

Abstract: An automated tanker unloading system has a plurality of electronically controlled valves to control gas pressure within a tanker trailer and to control the delivery of product. A plurality of electronic gas pressure transducers sense internal gas pressure within individual hoppers of the trailer and sense internal gas pressures within a hot hose and a product hose and convert the sensed gas pressure into an electronic signal. A plurality of pressure carrying pipes transmit positive and negative pressures between the valves and the hoppers and the product hoses and the hot hose. A processor is programmed to analyze electronically inputted data from the transducers and to then send signals to control the valve functions.

Abstract: A metering device and method for delivering fluid that employs a compensating element. The metering device has a housing defining a fluid chamber that contains a pressurized fluid. The-housing further encloses an actuating drive, a valve needle and a compensating element. The housing terminates at a housing opening for delivery of fluid to the outside of the housing. Fluid is delivered from the housing by moving the actuating drive which in turn displaces the valve needle in an opening direction. Upon displacement of the valve needle, the valve needle moves axially in the opening direction with little, if any, lift loss due to the compensating element. The compensating element further acts to compensate for shifting or movement of metering components due to external factors, such as varying thermal loads, aging effects, and settling effects.

Abstract: An electrically operated fluid dispenser for dispensing a pattern of viscous fluid onto a substrate during a run mode. The dispenser is turned off and does not dispense the viscous fluid during a standby mode of operation. The dispenser includes a dispenser body having an outlet and an armature disposed in the dispenser body for movement between an opened position allowing a fluid flow from the outlet and a closed position preventing the fluid flow from the outlet. A coil is mounted adjacent the armature and selectively generates an electromagnetic field for moving the armature between the opened and closed positions. A controller includes different apparatus and methods for using the coil as a heater as well as providing other heat transfer devices on the dispensing valve to maintain a constant temperature either, during only the run mode or, during both, the run and the standby modes.
