Patent number: 6779694Abstract: A vented closure for a fluid container which will not freely pour includes a cap movable between open and closed positions relative to an annular base collar. The movable cap can be slidable to form a push-pull type closure, or can be rotatable to form a flip-type closure. In an open position, a primary liquid passageway extends through the closure to a dispensing opening. One or more air vents of small size are located in the base collar at positions spaced within a predetermined range of offsets from the dispensing opening. A divider is located to create a secondary liquid passageway to convey liquid directly into contact with the air vents which self-seal by surface tension of the liquid. The vent aperture can be protected by overlapping portions of the movable cap.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2002Date of Patent: August 24, 2004Inventor: John L. Young

Publication number: 20040155071Abstract: A push/pull closure is disclosed the closure includes a body part (3) and a slider part (41). The slider part (41) can be moved between closed and opened positions. The body part (3) includes a nozzle section (15), a container neck engaging section (21), and an annular section (23). One feature of the closure is that the annular section (23) operates in an overcentre action to move the body part (3) from a raised position to a lowered position. As the annular section (23) moves to the lowered position the closure pierces a container membrane (7) to allow the container contents to be dispensed. Another feature of the closure is that the nozzle section (15) includes an air vent (71) that opens into a cavity (35) in which the slider part (41) slides between the open and closed positions. The air vent (71) spaced away from an outlet end (11) of the nozzle section (15) in order to minimised air entrainment as the contents of the container are being dispensed.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 2, 2004Publication date: August 12, 2004Inventor: Phillip Higgins

In one embodiment, a spray plug includes a set of inner passages for conveying product from a dip tube through the spray plug and a set of outer passages for conveying air from a head space in the container. The inner passages communicate with an inner flow space and the outer passages communicate with an outer flow space. A cap cooperates with the spray plug to define an outer chamber and an inner chamber which are isolated from one another when the cap is in the closed position, thereby preventing the mixing of air and product. As the cap is moved to the open position, the cap chambers are permitted to communicate with one another and, as the container is squeezed, a product/air mixture is formed in the closure. A central spray plug post has an upper portion that forms at least one restrictive passage with an inner wall of the cap when the cap is in the open position.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 22, 2001Publication date: August 22, 2002Inventors: Richard A. Patent number: 6435380Abstract: A spout for a container comprising a conduit having a first end connected to the container, an aperture and a second end configured to be inserted into an opening. The second end of the conduit is configured to direct fluid axially out of the second end of the conduit. A closure plate extending across the diameter of the conduit for preventing flow through the conduit is provided. The closure plate has a closed position to inhibit flow through the conduit in an open position to allow flow through the conduit. A sleeve movably responsive to inserting the conduit into the opening moves the closure plate from the closed position to the open position. The sleeve is spring loaded to hold the closure plate normally closed. A vent tube having a passage is coupled to and supports the closure plate centrally disposed in the conduit.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2000Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: Western Industries, Inc.Inventor: Ronald K. Patent number: 6431404Abstract: The present invention generally provides a threaded tamper-evident closure having an annular hook-shaped flange extending radially inward from the inner surface of the tamper-evident band attached to the bottom edge of the closure body. The hook-shaped flange can be continuous or segmented and forms an upwardly angled surface for engaging the sealing flange on the bottle neck. A plurality of elevated areas extend upwardly from the tamper-evident band in spaced relation to the bottom edge of the closure body. The frangible elements connecting the tamper evident band to the lower edge of the closure depending annular flange may be configured to extend from these elevated areas as well as the non-elevated areas of the tamper-evident band. Pairs of cooperating ratchets may be used in lieu of or in combination with the elevated bridge areas to reduce the stress placed upon frangible elements and/or during cap application.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2000Date of Patent: August 13, 2002Assignee: International Plastics & Equipment CorporationInventor: Charles J. Publication number: 20020074366Abstract: A vented closure for a fluid container which will not freely pour includes a cap movable between open and closed positions relative to an annular base collar. The movable cap can be slidable to form a push-pull type closure, or can be rotatable to form a flip-type closure. In an open position, a primary liquid passageway extends through the closure to a dispensing opening. One or more air vents of small size are located in the base collar at positions spaced from the dispensing opening. A divider is located to create a secondary liquid passageway to convey liquid directly into contact with the air vents which can self-seal by surface tension of the liquid. The vent aperture can be protected by overlapping portions of the movable cap.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 26, 2001Publication date: June 20, 2002Inventor: John L Young

Patent number: 6398132Abstract: A portable spray misting device including an internally hollowed body capable of holding a volume of fluid to be dispensed. The body includes a flattened base capable of supporting the body upon a flat surface and a contoured upper body terminating in an upwardly extending and interiorly open neck which defines a first port having a first diameter. A spray applicating head for issuing a mist spray of the fluid is secured to the open neck by an integrally formed collar. An interiorly open and annular rim extends from a specified location of the contoured upper body and defines a second port with a diameter greater than the first diameter of the first port. A cap is provided for securing in a fluid-tight manner over the annular rim of the second collar and so as to provide a device which permits a user to more quickly refill a fluid reservoir within the body interior and to facilitate reception of larger sized ice cubes and the like.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1999Date of Patent: June 4, 2002Assignee: Circulair, Inc.Inventors: Eric F.
