  • Patent number: 5671868
Abstract: The present invention provides a fluid dispensing container which more effectively regulates and controls fluids dispensed from the container. The container includes a unique funneling and valve assembly which funnels fluid from the container to a valved pouring spout. The container provides a unique fluid flow through an apertured tubular conduit to which the spout is pivotally mounted. Pivoting the spout opens and closes the valve assembly. The fluid flows through both ends of the tubular conduit, and as a result, the fluid flows more smoothly and uniformly from the container to the spout.

  • Patent number: 5622284
Abstract: There is provided, in conjunction with a container fitted with a toggle-acting dispensing closure cap, a cap-surmounting secondary control cap to render the container "child-resistant". The control cap is sleeved over and is coaxial with and rotatable about the closure cap. Bridging a generally-cylindrical skirt-like wall of the control cap is a partial, sector-like top wall which covers only a portion of the closure cap including the toggle-like actuator used to open and to close a dispensing port of the container. The partial top wall, which is provided with a restricted through opening, prevents one from impressing effective opening forces on a "press-to-open" section of the actuator. Opening forces can be applied to the actuator only by a probe acting through the restricted opening in the top wall sector of the control cap, and then only when that wall sector overlies the press-to-open section of the actuator.

  • Patent number: 5524799
Abstract: A dispensing closure consisting of a cap with a cavity defined in its upper surface, and a spout to fit within the cavity. The spout has an enlarged base, and a central passage extending through the base and the remainder of the spout. Aligned trunnions are formed on the opposite sides of the base of the spout. An opening in the cap allows communication between the container upon which the cap is seated and the central passage in the spout. A pair of standards are integrally molded within the cavity in the cap, and one standard is situated on each side of the opening. A U-shaped bearing, with a slightly restricted opening, is located at the upper end of each standard and spaced fingers define the entrance into each bearing. The trunnions are forced downwardly into the opening in each bearing. The fingers deform momentarily to accept the trunnions and return to their unstressed condition to capture same, thus securing the spout to the cap and exerting a downwardly directed force upon the spout.

  • Patent number: 5394812
Abstract: A method and apparatus for dispensing a substance such as a hydrophylic polymer into a soil to minimize the need for repeated irrigation, plant feeding or the like. A trailer supports a mixing tank within which the polymer and a liquid such as water are continuously agitated. The mixture, in a liquid form, is sent through a pump to an outlet having a plurality of apertures communicating with the tank via a manifold. A valve operatively conditions the throughput of the water and polymer so that a series of high pressure pulses exit the outlet and cause slugs of liquid to contact the ground at a sufficient velocity that the slugs penetrate the soil and deform under the surface of the soil. The rapid opening and closing of the valve when used with the outlet's apertures can provide a distribution pattern in the soil which is substantially uniform and minimizes the likelihood of disproportionate polymer infusion in the ground which would otherwise cause non-uniformly swelling.

  • Patent number: 5392968
Abstract: A resealable plastic closure formed of one piece of plastic material includes a swivelable diaphragm to allow a hinged spout to pivot between an upright dispensing position and a down closed position. To permit easier operation in closures containing diaphragms in small sizes, the diaphragm is divided by a crease, hinging the two section, and one diaphragm section is invertible and the other diaphragm section is pliable, deformable. Improved side latches for the spout are provided by flexible latch member supporting wall that may flex into an adjacent cavity on the underside of the closure base. The fabrication of those side latches is enhanced in a process that withdraws one tool to create a void behind the latch member supporting walls so that the other tool, which forms the latch member, may be withdrawn without damaging the member by forcing the walls to flex laterally as the second tool is withdrawn.

  • Patent number: 4838460
Abstract: A dispenser for lotions, creams and the like has an annular collar in the form of a rotatable cam ring which may be turned to rock an actuator toward a dispensing, open position or toward a closed, non-dispending position. The cam ring has cam tracks that support the actuator when in its open, dispensing position so that finger pressure exerted on the actuator to pump products from the dispenser does not inadvertently rock the actuator toward its closed position. In preferred forms of the invention, a wall section formed as part of a shroud surrounding the actuator is yieldably biased in an inwardly direction, and snaps over the outlet of the actuator to close the outlet channel once the actuator has been pivoted toward its closed, non-dispensing position.

  • Patent number: 4767027
Abstract: A multi-functional pouring spout for use on a container has a hollow tubular member pivotally mounted on a pair of brackets attached to a cap. The tubular member has a vertical position in which the lower end of the member is closed by the cap such that it functions as a measuring vessel. The member also has a tilted position in which the lower end communicates with the interior of the container through a hole in the cap to permit fluid in the member to be transferred into the container and to permit fluid to be poured from the container through the tubular member. The vertical position also causes an integral cover to close the hole in the cap.

  • Patent number: 4756451
Abstract: A child resistant dispensing closure of the type having a cap and a spout mounted thereon for rotation about a substantially horizontal axis. The upper surface of the cap is provided with a pattern of ribs. The upper surface of the spout is provided with a plurality of ribs, each of which has a distinct energy plane. All but one of the energy planes fails to allow sufficient purchase on their respective ribs and fails to produce the proper force vector required in order to initiate rotation of the spout when a manual force is applied to the latter energy planes. Only one of the energy planes is adapted so as to allow sufficient purchase and to produce the proper force vector required in order to initiate rotation of the spout when a manual force is applied to said one plane.

  • Patent number: 4732303
Abstract: A cover assembly for a thermos, or other bottle, which includes a dispensing spout which is movable between a closed and an open position. The dispensing spout has an opening extending through it which becomes aligned with an opening in the cover when the spout is turned to its open position. The spout also includes a vent which becomes aligned with a vent in the cover when the spout is in its open position. The opening and vent in the cover are both closed and sealed by the spout when the spout is turned down to its closed position. The spout is held in its open and closed positions by a snap-acting leaf spring element which causes the spout to be snapped to its open or closed position when the spout is turned manually in one direction or the other. The dispensing spout may be used either to pour the contents out of the bottle, or to receive a drinking straw into the interior of the bottle.

  • Patent number: 4519529
Abstract: Two embodiments of a dispensing stopper for bottles or the like having an improved arrangement for supporting the dispensing spout for movement between its open and closed positions. In each embodiment the supporting arrangement utilizes the surface which forms a closure for the pouring spout as a bearing surface to prevent misalignment and insure against leaks. The pouring spout is held in engagement with this combined closure bearing surface by an opposing bearing surface formed on an upper member of the closure. The pouring spout also has a pair of openings that extend through it and which cooperate with openings in the closure. One opening is used for dispensing and the other for venting. The dispensing opening is sized so that a straw may be placed through this opening to sip from the bottle, if desired. The venting opening extends to a lower level in the accompanying bottle than does the dispensing opening to aid in pouring under all conditions.
