  • Patent number: 5988052
Abstract: An apparatus for producing cheese includes a dispenser for applying salt to the cheese at a rate which varies in response to a control signal. The cheese travels across a platform to which a first sensor is attached for measuring the weight of the cheese. A second sensor measures the linear amount of cheese traveling across the platform. A controller derives the rate of cheese production based on the weight and the linear amount of cheese. The controller utilizes the rate of cheese production to produce the control signal and thereby control application of salt to the cheese.

  • Patent number: 5904270
Abstract: An air plenum is located within a conduit forming a spout for a granular material supply tube, and air is fed through the air plenum while granular material flows around the plenum and out of the spout. The moving air carries the material away from under the spout and permits the receiving compartment to be completely filled. A material flow control valve is constructed in the annular space around the air plenum by using a fixed plate and a rotatable plate, each with matching holes. If material accumulates to a height blocking the spout, a level sensor within the spout activates a pneumatic cylinder which causes the material flow valve to close by misaligning the holes. The continuing air flow then distributes the material throughout the receiving compartment, and when the level sensor is free of material the flow valve reopens. A pressure sensor in the air system also controls the granular material flow to shut off the flow when the air pressure builds up because the receiving compartment is full.

  • Patent number: 5855671
Abstract: An enclosed food processing device is provided having one or more conveyor belts and vertical agitators positioned above the belt. The agitators have forward and backward prongs that stir the food being processed without causing physical damage to it. The food enters the device through an inlet and is evenly distributed across a draining screen by an inlet deflector plate, which is adjustable to account for the different rates at which the food may flow into the device. Ramps are positioned under the device to collect liquid drained from the food, and the ramps have independent segments that separate the liquid based on the stage of the process at which it is drained from the food. A salting apparatus is provided for conveying salt to the food to be processed. The salt is dispensed in proportion to the amount of food to be salted. Salt is moved from a salt hopper into a chamber by a rotating dispensing wheel.

  • Patent number: 5671869
Abstract: A chaff disseminator for uniformly distributing short fibers into the air r disrupt enemy radar tracking in an air combat situation. Such fibers are typically 3 to 25 microns in diameter and cut to 1/8 to 1/2 inch in length. Fiber concentration and output are regulated by changing the air flow direction in a hopper while keeping the total air flow volume constant. A load of fibers in the hopper is raised by an upward airflow causing the load to tumble and reducing the packing density of the fibers at the edge of the load. The reduced packing density permits lower speed horizontal airflows to pull off fibers for dissemination. A fluid bed is created depending by a series of small holes drilled in the bottom of the hopper, by regulation of the airflow along the lid of the hopper and by air jets mounted along the bottom front edge of the hopper. A baffle which the load compressed and directs the cross load airflow.
