Abstract: Device and process for introducing a powder with catalytic activity into a fluidized bed polymerization reactor (1), the said device comprising:a storage enclosure (2) for powder with catalytic activity, provided with a feed line (3) for powder with catalytic activity and a shut-off valve (26), this enclosure being connected to a metering device (4) making it possible to deliver periodically a given volume of powder with catalytic activity,an intermediate chamber (5), placed below the metering device to receive direct the powder delivered by the latter, this intermediate chamber comprising in its upper part a tube (6) bringing in a inert carrier gas, provided with a shut-off valve, piping for conveying the powder (8) connecting the bottom part of the intermediate chamber to the fluidized-bed reactor, this piping having a portion which is more or less horizontal, the said powder conveying piping being provided with a full-bore rapid-opening valve (10).
Abstract: An apparatus for metering and feeding a solution is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a container, an inlet valve for feeding a solution into such container, and an outlet valve for allowing the solution fed into the container to flow out of the container when operated. A chamber located in the lower part of the container traps air during filing of the container at a pressure which corresponds to the hydrostatic head of solution in the container. A pressure transducer connected to the chamber provides an output signal proportional to the volume of solution in the container. A control device responsive to the output of the transducer closes the inlet valve when the predetermined volume of solution is reached and opens the outlet valve to allow discharge of the solution to the chemical process or other utilizing systems.
Abstract: In a thermo-cementing and folding machine which has a suck-back facility, by which at the end of an adhesive-applying operation adhesive supplied through the nozzle (22) is sucked back into the nozzle so as to prevent `drooling`, auxiliary suck-back steps are introduced at timed intervals following the primary suck-back operation, through controlled amounts, in order to counter further risk of `drooling` caused by thermal expansion of the adhesive in the nozzle (22). The number of auxiliary suck-back steps is variable according to the adhesive supply rate at the time of termination of the adhesive-applying operation.

Abstract: A proportioning system for creating admixture from diluent and concentrate comprises accumulators which are alternatively repetitively recharged so that one is always on-line. Recharging is controlled by a fluid system including a piston assembly for injecting a measured charge of concentrate into an accumulator being recharged. Diluent is introduced by opening and closing a valve from the diluent supply with the recharging being activated and terminated by level sensing switches associated with the accumulators. Electrical control circuitry and a stroke adjustment mechanism for the piston assembly are also disclosed.
Abstract: An auto flow controller which may be used to automatically release a number of component liquids which are to be transmitted to a mixing tank without constantly having to replenish the liquid component chemicals. A sensor located in a mixing tank is equipped with sensors which commands a set of storage containers to release a predetermined quantity of liquid component chemical. This quantity may be controlled by use of level graduated sensors which control pumps or solenoids or by means of a single sensor which initiates timer equipped pumps or solenoids. A combination of these methods may be used. Pump feed, gravity feed or combination of both are utilized.
Abstract: Apparatus for dispensing a hot melt thermoplastic consists of a hopper containing granular thermoplastic, an extruder for melting the molten thermoplastic and delivering it to a manifold and then to an applicator for dispensing the molten thermoplastic. Optionally an accumulator can be attached to allow the molten thermoplastic to accumulate during off-periods of the applicator. Operation of the applicator controls operation of the extruder and the accumulator.

Abstract: An ice dispenser control wherein a plurality of solenoids are selectively operated by switches engaged by cups of different sizes placed in a dispensing space of the ice dispenser. The solenoids cause a delivery passage of the ice maker to be closed at a selected level thereof by a divider while concurrently a closure normally closing the delivery end of the delivery passage is removed therefrom so as to permit ice bodies in the passage between the delivery end and the actuated divider to be dispensed to the cup in the dispensing space. The control causes an agitator in the ice storage bin to be operated for a preselected period of time each time ice is delivered from the delivery passage. Additionally, the control is arranged to cause agitation of the ice in the ice storage bin whenever no dispensing of ice is effected for a preselected long period of time, thereby to prevent conglomeration of the ice bodies in the storage bin.
Abstract: A self-service station where a number of parties, each having an individual operating key or card, can pump gas from a single pump by inserting the key or card into a matching slot to activate the pump. When the fuel begins to flow to the discharge nozzle, a pulsing device is activated to register on a counter the amount of fuel pumped. To prevent pumping of fuel under circumstances where the pulsing device is not operating, there is a timer that shuts off the pump if the pulsing device does not become operative after a certain period of time. The timer is arranged with a flow responsive switch so that the time period is measured from the time fuel actually begins to flow to the time that the pulsing device starts to operate. This permits the time period to be made relatively short to minimize the pumping of fuel without recording the same on the counter.
Abstract: An annunciator and/or shut-down system for an automatic processor for treating tissue specimens. In a tissue processor of the type wherein the reagents are drawn from reagent containers into the reaction vessel by drawing a vacuum on the vessel and reagents are returned to their respective reagent containers by gravity, the filled or unfilled condition of the reaction vessel is determined by sensing the vacuum condition during two time intervals; one near the start of filling and one just after filling is normally completed. The vacuum condition indicative of a filling or filled vessel differs for each sensing time interval. Logic circuitry analyzes the sensor condition for the specific time interval and, if the condition is maintained over a predefined delay period, outputs a short duration shut-down signal which causes latching of a mechanical shut-down and/or annunciator switch.

Abstract: A timer and alarm apparatus suitable for complementary use with medication containers or other similar vessels. The timer includes an electronic elapsed time measuring unit and a display unit for indicating the elapsed time, an interval set unit for presetting a desired time period, an alarm unit to signal the conclusion of the preset interval and a reset unit to reinitiate the measurement of elapsed time. The timer also includes a unique capsule-shaped housing and includes an elastic strip for disposition about an appropriate container. The reset unit may be automatically responsive to the periodic dispensation of the contents of the container.
