Patent number: 7665394Abstract: The dispenser dispenses tickets such as instant-winner lottery tickets from a strip in which the individual tickets are delineated by perforation lines. The dispenser includes a separator to tear the tickets apart before issuing them from the machine. The separator preferably is rotary and has a dull helical blade which rotates to contact the ticket strip adjacent a perforation line, and presses against the strip to tear the tickets apart along the perforation line at a point which progresses across the strip along the perforation line. Preferably, a bar code reader is provided for reading codes on tickets in the dispensing machine. The bar code reader is used in reading information from the tickets to initialize the dispenser control system and in accounting for the sale of tickets, and in the verification of winning tickets being sold. A game is provided in which the concept is that a jackpot is built up using the detection of each ticket sold.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2005Date of Patent: February 23, 2010Assignee: GTECH CorporationInventors: Brian J. Publication number: 20030116597Abstract: A method for cutting a laminated web comprises the steps of engaging a first side of the laminated web with a crack initiator having a high rake angle, the crack initiator extending from a first cutter base having a low rake angle, the laminated web including at least a support web, and an upper layer that may, at least for imaging elements, be considered a protective layer, the upper layer being thinner than the support web, the upper layer being located at the first side of the laminated web structure; simultaneously engaging a second side of the laminated web with a second cutter; generating a first crack in the first side of the laminated web with the crack initiator completely through the upper layer; engaging the web with the cutter base of the first cutter; and further propagating the first crack using the cutter base while disengaging the crack initiator of the first cutter.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 21, 2001Publication date: June 26, 2003Inventors: Zhanjun Gao, Yeh-hung Lai, Mridula Nair, Aparna Vasant Bhave

Patent number: 6463762Abstract: A process for cutting glass sheets (10) includes the steps of: scoring each glass sheet on an automatic scoring table (12) having a scoring head (14) moveable on a bridge (16) and a track (18); transporting each scored glass sheet to a breaking table (22) via conveyor (20); floating each scored sheet on a fluid medium on the breaking table; and impacting each scored sheet from above the floated scored sheet to fracture the scored sheet along the score lines (40 and 44). An apparatus for cutting glass sheets includes mechanisms for performing the steps of this process. The fluid medium may be air with the impacting performed by a vacuum workholder (26) consisting of an arm (30) raised and lowered by pneumatic cylinders (32), the arm supporting a plurality of vacuum cups (28) engaging the workpiece (42) for subsequent transportation.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2001Date of Patent: October 15, 2002Assignee: Billco Manufacturing, Inc.Inventor: Edward Joseph Ross, Jr.

Patent number: 6073824Abstract: An apparatus and method for cleanly breaking a continuously advancing cellulose web includes a transfer fabric which supports and advances the cellulose web to a wind up zone. The transfer fabric forms a closed loop and is driven at a desired speed by a drive roll. At least two spray nozzles are arranged transversely across the advancing cellulose web as it is carried on the transfer fabric. The spray nozzles are capable of emitting a liquid under high pressure against the advancing cellulose web to form perforations across the width thereof. A plurality of hollow cores are independently and sequentially moved into position at the wind up zone to receive the advancing cellulose web. The hollow cores are located downstream of the spray nozzles and each hollow core is capable of accumulating a predetermined amount of the cellulose web.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1999Date of Patent: June 13, 2000Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Robert Lee Gray, Richard Ames Horton

Patent number: 4785696Abstract: A method and apparatus for presenting a serial succession of cut sheet portions to a work station. The sheet portions are cut from a continuous webbing which is processed by a cutting station and a web-breaking station. The cutting station partially severs the web downstream of its leading free end so as to define a first sheet portion between that free end and the point of cutting, with the first sheet portion connected to the web by one or more tab connectors. The webbing is then advanced downstream to the tab-breaking station where the tabs are broken to free the first sheet portion for independent movement further downstream. A vacuum belt engages the webbing, and particularly the downstream edge adjacent the partial severing, with a vacuum belt. The vacuum belt engages the webbing by bridging the partially-severed cut portion, so as not to interfere with the downstream tab-breaking apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1987Date of Patent: November 22, 1988Assignee: Kraft, Inc.Inventor: Michael L. Patent number: 4549678Abstract: A method and apparatus for separating a cut end (5) from a tubular element (T), such as a cast iron pipe. The element (T) is horizontal and placed on means (1) for supporting and driving it in rotation around its axis (X--X) with axial immobilization. A separator roller (E) is rotatably mounted around an axis (Y--Y) parallel to the axis (X--X) on a yoke (13) supported by a jack (16) enabling the roller to advance towards the axis (X--X) in a radial direction. The roller comprises an annular central wedge (8) bordered by two lateral cylinders (10a, 10b), and penetrates during the cutting operation into a groove (3) made by the cutting tool (2) in the wall of the element (T). At the end of the cutting operation the wedge laterally separates the cut end away from the cutting tool, to thereby avoid damaging the tool.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 1984Date of Patent: October 29, 1985Assignee: Pont-A-Mousson S.A.Inventor: Claude B. Patent number: 4119252Abstract: The specification discloses a system and process for producing discrete chilled products having preselected weights from a semi-fluid mixture. The semi-fluid mixture is pumped along a distribution path to an extruding manifold which extrudes a plurality of parallel continuous lengths of the mixture. The continuous lengths are directed through a chilling station in a parallel relationship in order to chill and firm the lengths such that the lengths maintain their extruded cross-sectional configuration. A cutter periodically severs the continuous lengths at predetermined intervals to provide a plurality of discrete products having predetermined weights. The pumping rate, rate of travel through the freezer and periodic severing of the continuous lengths may be selectively varied in order to maintain any desired weight of the discrete products.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1977Date of Patent: October 10, 1978Assignee: The Jimmy Dean Meat Company, Inc.Inventor: Vincent E.
