  • Patent number: 11052534
Abstract: A tile-cutting measurement device includes a telescoping elongated body. The telescoping elongated body has a first distal end and a second distal end. A tile marker holder is disposed on the second distal end substantially parallel to the elongated body. The tile marker holder holds a tile marker. The first distal end of the tile-cutting measurement device is placed against a vertical surface such as a wall. When the tile-cutting measurement device travels along the wall, the marker traces a line along a loose tile to be cut that corresponds to the contours of the vertical surface. After the tile is measured in this manner, it will be cut along the line. The cut side of the tile is then fitted along the vertical surface. Advantageously, the tile-cutting measurement device is a portable and easy-to-use tool that allows for precise tile cutting measurements.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for scribing and breaking a glass substrate and related device. The method includes: scribing the glass substrate to form a scribing notch; making a transmission medium of supersonic waves contact the scribing notch; transmitting supersonic waves to the scribing notch via the transmission medium to break the scribed glass substrate under an effect of supersonic waves. The present invention adjusts the frequency of the supersonic waves to make the frequency close to the natural frequency of the scribing notch such that they resonate together. Therefore, the resonation force is uniformly applied on all scribing notch. Therefore, this resonation force can break the scribed glass substrate along the scribing notch beautifully without any damages on the scribing notch and terminals.

  • Patent number: 8740029
Abstract: Axial tension is applied to an optical fiber that had been scored at the intended cleave location, wherein the axial tension is applied in a time-varying manner to maintain the stress intensity factor for crack on the fiber within an acceptable level to produce a stable crack growth at a reasonable rate to cleave the fiber without requiring polishing of the end surface. Careful control of the applied tension force with time acts to control the velocity of the propagating crack by maintaining substantially constant stress intensity factor. The applied axial tension force is reduced with time and/or crack growth (as crack propagates). As a result, the strain energy in the fiber material is released by formation of a single plane with an optical quality surface without requiring polishing. A substantially flat optical surface of enhanced optical quality is formed at the cleaved end of the optical fiber.

As a result of the use of the pushing mechanism, the engagement completion time for suction cups, if used, are reduced significantly. A process without using suction cups is enabled with enhanced yield. The increased process stability and enlarged process window are particularly advantageous for processing glass sheets having high flexibility.

Abstract: Apparatus and equipment for making glass sheet from a glass ribbon including scoring, bending and separation in vertical state with improved glass ribbon stability provided by edge restrainers located above the score-line that also travel with substantially the same vertical velocity with the elastic ribbon. The edge restrainers on both sides of the glass ribbon serve to limit the motion and perturbation of the ribbon during scoring, bending and separation, advantageously by tensioning the glass ribbon where needed. The invention can reduce disturbance of the glass ribbon in upstream visco-elastic and/or viscous zones due to scoring, bending and separation, therefore enhance forming process stability and product attributes such as thickness variation, stress and stress variation, and the like. The invention can be particularly advantageous for making glass sheet with large width and/or low thickness using the fusion down-draw, slot down-draw, re-draw down-draw, and other down-draw processes.
