  • Patent number: 6179191
Abstract: An apparatus for advancing one or more lengths of wire in consistent successive increments includes a pair of cooperating gripper members. A first gripper and a second gripper are provided for advancing the length of wire, and are slideably located within a slot. A reciprocating press assembly having inclined surfaces is used to motivate the grippers. The inclined surfaces are inserted between the grippers and force the grippers to move away from each other during the downstroke of the plunger. Springs force the grippers back toward each other, and aid in repositioning the grippers and moving the wire. While one gripper grips and advances the wire, the second gripper is repositioning and not gripping the wire. The press assembly activates and advances one gripper during a downstroke, and activates and advances the other gripper during an upstroke. Also, during the downstroke, one inactive gripper is repositioned, while on the upstroke, the other inactive gripper is repositioned.

  • Patent number: 5333482
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for crushing a portion of a corrugated plate in a selected area of the corrugations without blocking the grooves. In accordance with the method teeth are inserted into grooves on opposite sides of the corrugated plate and the corrugation ridges associated with such grooves are, axially adjacent such insertion, crushed to a predetermined thickness. The teeth are then withdrawn, the corrugated plate is indexed a desired number of ridges/grooves and the die members are again engaged with the opposite sides of the plate. The apparatus for crushing a plate includes a frame for supporting the plate, a feed apparatus for moving the plate at the desired time in the desired direction, and a forming apparatus for crushing plate ridges in a zone and obstructing, in a transition zone between the crushed ridges and the uncrushed ridges, ridge transverse movement into adjacent grooves.

  • Patent number: 4596174
Abstract: A high speed wire handling and cutting apparatus having particular application for efficiently providing a continuous supply of uniform dimension wire leads which are to be electrically connected (e.g. welded) to an electronic component, or the like, so that such component can be connected into an electrical circuit. The apparatus includes a wire feeding crank and an associated cross head assembly, a wire receiving crank and an associated cross head assembly, and a wire cutter disposed therebetween. The wire feeding crank and its associated cross head assembly continuously feed an accurately metered length of wire from a wire supply to the cutter, so that wire sections of precise and uniform dimension can be cut therefrom. The wire receiving crank and its associated cross head assembly embrace the sections of wire that are cut from the supply and transfer the sections from the cutter to a suitable storage facility or to the next stage in an electronic component packaging and/or manufacturing assembly line.

  • Patent number: 4270684
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for engaging and moving leading edges of coils of sheet steel from one position to another along a steel processing line. For example, in a slitting line, the leading edge of a new coil of steel is moved by the apparatus from a slitter to a recoiler mandrel or drum. The engaging apparatus includes two elongate clamping members extending transversely of the steel sheet and having lengths exceeding the width of the slit sheet. Jack-screws are used to move the upper member toward and away from the lower one to engage the leading edge of the sheet and to release it. The clamping members and moving means are mounted on a carriage carried by overhead supports or by supports at one side of the line which support the carriage for movement from one position on the processing line to another. A roller extends the length of the lower clamping member and is positioned at the discharge or downstream side thereof to support the steel sheet as it moves beyond the clamping members.
