  • Patent number: 5996658
Abstract: The present invention relates to a feed roller (1) by means of which a felled tree (2) trunk is fed into a timber harvester for delimbing. The apparatus comprises a drive wheel (4) and at least one transmission means (5) arranged at the outer circumference of and controlled by the drive wheel, the transmission means having engagement plates (3) provided with gripping means (14). The apparatus efficiently equalizes surface pressure exerted on the tree (2) trunk, even though the drive wheel is without cushioning rubber material. The transmission means (5) arranged on the drive wheel (4) is longer than the wheel perimeter. Consequently, the transmission means is arranged to form a plane surface between the drive wheel and the tree trunk, whereby a continuous surface pressing evenly against the tree trunk is formed on the wood side in the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5853118
Abstract: A gripper block for use in grippingly engaging coil tubing, pipe, rod, cable, or like objects having various outside dimensions for ultimately applying a longitudinal load thereto. The subject gripper block has an attachment point preferably at or near the center of the block body to enable attachment to at least one endless chain of an injector apparatus. The gripper block further has a pair of gripper surfaces formed thereon, these gripper surfaces are generally planar and tilted away from each other so as to diverge away from the tubing to be gripped at approximately 90 degrees. The gripper surfaces thus preferably provide a V-shaped engagement configuration which is quite effective in gripping objects of differing outside dimensions with no or minimal scarring of such objects.

The carriers (65) are mounted on a conveyor (83) and each carrier (65) pushes against the sealed portion (75) to pull the webs (51,53), and the packages (41) formed therefrom in the direction of conveyor travel. The preferred carrier (65) has a shaped head on the end of a flat plastic blade.

  • Patent number: 5702044
Abstract: A movable spring end of a compression spring being stopped on a guide spindle by a special stop piece. The stop piece which is designed nonelastic and can therefore be manufactured of a nonrusting material, it thereby guarantees a hygienically satisfactory device, in particular when contacting food. The stop piece can be used particularly advantageously in tensioning pieces on conveyor chains, which are suited for the transport of packaging foil bands in packaging machines.

  • Patent number: 5566764
Abstract: A coil tubing injector unit is shown for injecting tubing into a well bore. A main injector frame is positioned adjacent the well bore and includes a longitudinal opening which defines a vertical run for the injector unit which is alignable with the well bore vertical axis. Gripper block assemblies are carried on the main injector frame and include plier-like halves which are pivotable between an open position and a closed, gripping position as the assemblies enter the vertical run so that the plier halves grip a selected length of tubing fed into the main injector frame along the central vertical axis of the injector unit to inject the tubing into the well bore. The profile of the vertical run is designed to minimize loading on the gripper block assemblies. The section modulus of the material used to manufacture the vertical run is also designed to allow a controlled flex of the run in order to soften the gripper loading as the gripper block assemblies enter the vertical run.

  • Patent number: 5497957
Abstract: Film edges 9, 9 of a film web 1 are sensed with sensor heads 4,4. The sensor heads 4, 4 can be motor-adjusted transversely to the longitudinal direction of the film web 1. By virtue of the displacement, signals are produced which are proportional to the displacement and which activates servo valves 8, 8. These servo valves are connected to positioning cylinders 10, 10 which are in turn connected to chain-path deflector heads 6, 6. The signals of the servo valves activate the adjustment cylinders, which then adjust the chain-path deflector heads and thus drive them in response to movement of the film edges. By virtue of the adjustment of the chain-path deflector heads, the paths of the clip chains 14, 14 are also adjusted, resulting in a variation of the grasping depths of the film strip held firmly by the clips. This brings about an oscillating movement of the film web after the feed-in into the transverse stretching frame 16.

  • Patent number: 5489056
Abstract: A conveying device for transportation of extended line products such as cables or tubes has tension elements to exert a tension force on at least two tension chain wheels in the direction away from the driving chain wheels. A self-locking wedge prevents the tension chain wheels from moving back and forth. The automatic adjustment of the roller chains reduces wear of the conveying device and prevents speed changes during transportation of the extended line product.

  • Patent number: 5309990
Abstract: There is provided an improved coiled tubing injector for injecting and withdrawing a length of flexible, cylindrical tubing into and from a well bore. The improved injector comprises first and second sets of gripper shoes, and drive mechanism for moving the sets of gripper shoes around first and second endless paths, respectively. The endless paths include parallel sections disposed on opposite sides of a length of the tubing. Within these parallel sections, the gripper shoes are pressed against the tubing with sufficient force to hold the tubing therebetween. Each gripper shoe includes a base portion connected to the drive mechanism and at least two substantially nondeformable gripper elements, each having cylindrical gripping surfaces corresponding to the outer surface of the tubing. A body of elastomeric material connects the gripper elements to the base portion and permits movement of the gripper elements between open and closed positions.
