    Abstract: A rope brake is provided for controlled lowering of a branch or limb cut from a tree by a person holding one end of the rope. The rope brake includes a drum mounted to a back plate. The back plate is mounted to the tree. The rope for lowering the branch or limb is threaded through guides on the drum and wrapped around the drum one, two or three times. One end of the rope is tied to the branch to be cut and the other end is held by the operator. When the branch is cut from the tree, the tension on the rope supplied by the operator controls the friction between the rope and the drum, such that the branch can be safely lowered in a controlled manner.

    Abstract: An apparatus for performing a work operation on sheet material includes a plurality of drive wheels for driving the sheet material in cooperation with a plurality of pinch rollers along a feed path. Each of the drive wheels includes a drive surface having a plurality of primary teeth and a plurality of secondary teeth. Each primary tooth includes a top surface and a plurality of primary contact points to engage the sheet material. Each secondary tooth includes either a secondary contact line or a secondary contact point that come into contact with the sheet material to provide additional driving force and to prevent the sheet material from being perforated by the primary teeth. The primary teeth and the secondary teeth of the drive wheels engage the sheet material to advance the sheet material along the feed path. The drive surface of the drive wheels of the present invention minimizes slippage of the sheet material in the drive apparatus without damaging the sheet material.

    Abstract: In a thermal-transfer-type color printer, an ink ribbon and a paper are sandwiched between a thermal head and a platen roller so that a specific image is transferred onto the paper in a specific color. The platen roller is made by a rubber material which has a certain degree of hardness. On the surface of the ink ribbon, plural colors of ink are sequentially and repeatedly painted. Hence, after transferring an image onto the paper in one color, the paper is moved backward; and then, another image is transferred onto the paper in another color. Thus, a multi-color printing is performed. In order to avoid a color shade or an printing error, in which a printing position of one-color image does not accurately match with a printing position of another-color image, the paper should be accurately moved forward and backward. In order to do so, the thermal-transfer-type color printer provides a precise paper-feed mechanism which comprises a pinch roller and a paper-feed roller.

Form deflecting fingers extending from the puller wheels to the burster also help. In order to prevent the conveyor belts from running off the crowned pulleys an aligner is provided which has a number of vertical dowel pins with plastic sleeves covering and rotatable with respect to the dowel pins, disposed on each side of a conveyor belt associated with a crowned pulley and puller wheel. The aligner is provided immediately upstream of a rubber covered drive roll for the conveyor belts.

    Abstract: A tape driving mechanism for a magnetic recording apparatus has a capstan rotated to advance a magnetic tape by pinching the magnetic tape between the capstan and a pinch roller. The pinch roller is pressed onto the magnetic tape against the capstan. The capstan surface is coated with a diamond-like carbon film which is smooth and highly wear-resistant. The difference between the tangential speed of the capstan and the tape transfer speed is almost zero. Thus, the state of contact is static. A static frictional coefficient between the diamond-like carbon film of the capstan and the magnetic tape is almost equal to twice the static frictional coefficient between the metal surface of the capstan and the magnetic tape in the conventional tape driving mechanism. The tape driving force thus remains sufficient even if the pressure exerted by the pinch roller is reduced to half the value employed in the conventional tape driving mechanism. The diamond-like carbon film may be coated on a rough surface of the capstan.

In the plotter, both the side edges of the sheet are respectively held between drive rollers and corresponding pinch rollers mounted at both the sideward parts of the recording surface in opposition to each other, and the drive rollers at both the sideward parts of the recording surface are rotated synchronously to each other, whereby the sheet is moved in the rotating direction of the drive rollers on the recording surface. Each of the drive rollers is formed at its peripheral surface with milling or ruggedness for preventing the sheet from slipping.
