  • Patent number: 4839674
Abstract: In a recorder, at least one set of marks spaced by a predetermined distance in a feed direction of a record paper are recorded on the record paper, the marks are detected by a detector while the record paper is fed, a time interval between detections of the marks is compared with a reference number of pulses applied to paper feed motors to detect a deviation, and rotations of the left and right paper feed motors are controlled to control the feed of record medium.

  • Patent number: 4782987
Abstract: In the stepwise feeding of a packing material web for the application of cover strips over prepunched pouring openings, the pouring opening is sensed by means of a photocell which is located at as great a distance from the point of application as the distance between two pouring openings. Any errors in this distance will thus affect the accuracy of application. In order to avoid this is proposed in accordance with the invention to sense the passage of the actual pouring opening and start a countdown sequence, at the end of which the web feed is interrupted with the pouring opening in correct position for the application of the cover strip. An arrangement for the realization of this, seen in the direction of feed of the material web (1) comprises a sensing device (4), a processing device (5) and a forward feeding device (9) which are connected to a control unit (13).

  • Patent number: 4694638
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for loading articles into bags formed from a known roll of web material delineated by perforations at desired intervals. The web includes a first and second sheet of material. A sensor detects a perforation line and activates a sheet separator which opens or tears only the first sheet along a perforation line. The second sheet remains intact and preserves the web. A stream of air is directed at the open edge to inflate a bag. The bag is stabilized on a platform while articles are inserted. After articles are loaded, the second sheet is separated so that the bag is removed from the web and can be closed as desired.

  • Patent number: 4692819
Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling the position of a web containing location identifying information thereon. In particular, a means for measuring displacement of the web independent of the location information is employed to measure the displacement of the web in a cyclic manner such that the measuring cycle is in the expected displacement intervals between identifying information. A difference between a desired position of the web determined by an operator controlled reference displacement position of the web is determined, and used for controlling the position of the web to the desired position.

  • Patent number: 4617080
Abstract: A film laminating apparatus, in which a continuous web of film has a plurality of heat-activation type film layers arranged thereon with predetermined spacing and is delivered together with a paper to a thermal transfer station to transfer the film layer onto the paper, includes an optical position indicator that is located ahead of each film layer on the web and that has optical transmission properties different from those of the web. An optical position detecting device is located at the entrance side of the transfer station, and drive rollers, pressure rollers, and a flat plate heater are operated in response to the output of the optical position detecting device to superpose the film layer onto the paper sheet so that the film covers less than the entire surface of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 4552608
Abstract: A system (50) includes a labeling machine (52) and a digital data processing system (54) connected to the labeling machine (52). A cutter (56) of the labeling machine (52) has a shaft (58) with a mark (60), which is sensed by a sensor (62). The sensor (62) supplies shaft (58) information on line (64) to digital data processing system (54). The digital data processing system (54) supplies control signals on line (64) to feed roll (66) stepper motor (67). The digital data processing means (54) is also connected to an optical sensor (76) by line (78). The optical sensor (76) senses the position of position mark (74) on the labels (70), which is correlated with the position of shaft (58) in order to feed the labels (70) to the cutter (56) at the proper rate so that the labels (70) are always cut at the kerf (72) between each label (70).

  • Patent number: 4532596
Abstract: For register control when printing on a web, signals corresponding to a predetermined hidden pattern of low-amplitude density variations are superimposed on picture signals representing the image to be printed. After printing, light from elements of the printed image, with its hidden pattern, is detected by a register scanning head and the variations are correlated in a signal processor with the known variations of portions of the predetermined hidden pattern. In this way a position error signal is derived and can be used to correct the web position.

  • Patent number: 4460421
Abstract: In methods of and apparatus (28) for indexing a repetitively patterned strip (12) past a plurality of work stations, such as, for example, a bonding station (33) and a dewebbing station (65) of a lead frame bonder, a cyclical, automated adjustment of the strip (12) with respect to the bonding station (33) eliminates repeated meticulous manual fine adjustments of the strip. An adjustment of the position of the strip (12) is achieved by adjusting the positions of travel limit stops (109 and 111) of an incremental feed mechanism (46). Simultaneously with the adjustment of the travel limit stops (109 and 111), an adjustment is made in the same magnitude and in the same direction as the adjustment to the limit stops in the position of the dewebbing station (65). Similar adjustments may be made to any other station, an accurate position of which with respect to the position of the strip (12) is desirable.

  • Patent number: 4400230
Abstract: The label indexing and applicator apparatus of the present invention includes laminating means for bonding labels in a controlled index from a rolled strip of flexible and stretchable label stock to a surface of a substrate to form a laminate. The apparatus includes means for unrolling the strip label stock at a tension less than the tension sufficient to impart any substantial longitudinal stretch thereto. Electric motor brake means are connected to and drive one of the nip rollers to grippingly drive the strip label stock therethrough at a controlled linear speed which is less than the pulling speed thereby to effect tension sufficient to impart a longitudinal stretch of controlled magnitude on the strip label stock. Control means are connected to the sensor means and the electric motor brake for receiving detection signals and for controlling and varying the drive speed of the electric motor brake.

  • Patent number: 4391190
Abstract: Disclosed are a method and apparatus for pre-setting the register in photogravure printing machines. According to the invention, the angular position of a first printing cylinder is determined relative to a scanning device when the cylinder adjusting mark passes the scanning device. The first cylinder is held stationary and its angular position is stored upon detection of the adjusting mark. An upstream cylinder is rotated and a pulse is generated when the angular position of the upstream cylinder is rotated past the stored angular position of the first cylinder. The web distance traveled between the generation of said pulse and the detection by the scanning device of the adjusting mark of the upstream cylinder is proportional to the angular offset of the two cylinders. A signal proportion to this web distance can be used as a register positioning command.
