  • Patent number: 8814160
Abstract: A de-skewing mechanism for de-skewing a printing medium is disclosed. The printing medium is conveyed by a conveying mechanism in a first linear velocity. The de-skewing mechanism includes a first calibrating roller, a second calibrating roller and a first torque limiting member. The first calibration roller is utilized for conveying a first side of the printing medium in a second linear velocity greater than the first linear velocity, and the second calibrating roller is utilized for conveying a second side of the printing medium in the second linear velocity. The first torque limiting member is coupled to the first calibrating roller and is utilized for stopping driving the first calibrating roller when the first side of the printing medium reaches a predetermined tension, such that the second side of the printing medium is capable of proceeding relative to the first side, so as to be aligned with the first side.

  • Patent number: 5868019
Abstract: A stamping and forming machine (10) is disclosed having a feed mechanism for incrementally feeding a strip of material (32) along a feed path and momentarily stopping the strip in proper position within tooling (20, 22) during the stamping and forming operation. The feed system includes a feed drum (36) and is arranged to move between a driving position where the feed drum (36) is in engagement with the strip of material (32) for effecting the movement thereof along the feed path and a remote position out of feeding engagement therewith. A misfeed detection and feed release mechanism is provided for moving the feed drum (36) from the driving position to the remote position upon detection of a misfeed where the strip of material (32) is displaced from the proper position. The feed drum (36) is spring loaded toward the remote position. • Patent number: 5010834
Abstract: A needle thread feeding assembly in which the thread is positively fed at a desired stitch pitch while being clamped in between a presser roller and a drive roller, whose rotation is frictionally transmitted from a drive source. An encoder detects a predetermined amount of rotation and signals to restrict the drive roller, while allowing the drive shaft to continue rotating. A main-shaft-angle-detector detects predetermined angles adapted to operate the required stitch pitch and to start counting of pulses at the encoder. When a required number of pulses corresponding to the stitch-pitch is counted, the encoder signals to restrict the drive roller. Thus, the needle thread is positively and intermittently fed according to the stitch pitch.

  • Patent number: 4145963
Abstract: A combination jam-clearing and torque sensing traction wheel assembly and strap feed stopping mechanism is disclosed for use in a strapping machine which feeds strap in a chute about an article to form a loop and subsequently tensions the loop tightly about the article. The strap is fed into the chute by a rotating traction wheel which is driven through a torque sensing assembly comprising a driven plate, a spring-biased driver plate, and drive motor. Feeding of the strap is intermittently stopped and started as the driver plate is forced out of engagement with the driven plate when the torque increases beyond a predetermined amount in response to increased strap feed resistance resulting from an obstruction in the chute. In one embodiment, the strap feed stopping mechanism includes a permanent strap end abutment member located just past the strap overlap region in the strapping machine.

  • Patent number: 4107508
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for automatic or semi-automatic welding or brazing wherein a fillet-wire, mechanically fed to the welding position on a work piece, is heated, along with the work piece, by a flame so that the fillet-wire reaches its melting point. A heating current is supplied to the fillet-wire to flow between the wire and the work piece. In order to maintain a predetermined relationship between the rate at which the fillet-wire is fed to the work piece and the rate at which the wire melts and separates to drop onto the work piece, the feed-rate and/or current intensity is regulated such that the wire is in constant contact with the work piece with a predetermined contact pressure. In one embodiment, the mechanical feeding device comprises a torque-limiting mechanism to maintain a substantially constant predetermined contact pressure of the fillet wire against the work piece.

  • Patent number: 4099193
Abstract: The developing machine includes a plurality of processing fluid stages arranged one after the other and a plurality of drying stages arranged one after the other. Film strips are guided along a predetermined winding path through the processing fluid stages and then through the drying stages. A pulling device located downstream of the most downstream one of the drying stations pulls film strips through the developing machine along the predetermined path. A control arrangement controls the operation of the pulling device in dependence upon the tension in film strips being pulled by the pulling device. The control arrangement includes a tension-sensing device operative for sensing the tension in film strips being pulled through the developing machine at a tension-sensing location intermediate the most downstream of the processing fluid stages and the most upstream of the drying stages.

  • Patent number: 4040043
Abstract: As film is being drawn off a rotatable supply reel, an apparatus indicates the presence of a predefined amount of film material remaining on the reel. In the absence of a designated quantity present on the film reel, a sensing device in proximity to the reel imparts a signal to a reel braking device for de-energizing the film roller. When the braking device moves to engage the film reel, an additional sensing device responds to the angular displacement between the brake and the film reel during braking action to monitor film tension.

  • Patent number: 3935938
Abstract: A line feed mechanism for use with high speed, lead screw driven printers, such as of the dot matrix type, utilizes a solenoid with a dual pivotal armature to effect the coupling of a uniquely mounted and eccentrically displaceable platen gear to a lead screw connected gear. As such, single or multiple platen controlled line feeding is effected in a manner which is correlated with the linear advancement of the carriage-mounted and lead screw-driven print head. The pivotal armature, when actuated, is also employed to hold a detent lever out of engagement with a ratchet wheel associated with the platen during multiple line feeding. This advantageously obviates the "clatter" sound otherwise generated, with but one solenoid being required for both variable line feeding and ratchet wheel release.
