  • Patent number: 6095393
Abstract: In a fastener-driving tool comprising a housing structure with a handle and a nosepiece and a magazine with a main body and a hinged cover, the main body is mounted to the handle by a mortise and tenon mounting, which comprises a structure integral with the main body and defining a mortise and a structure integral with the handle and defining a tenon. The mortise and the tenon are tapered complementarily so that the tenon can wedge into the mortise. The mortise has a widened region and the tenon has a widened portion fitting into the widened region so as to prevent the tenon from pulling from the mortise in a direction normal to the handle.

  • Patent number: 6089437
Abstract: A fastening machine (e.g. for rivets) has a fastening head where the fasteners are brought into alignment with the punch and die in a carrier tape. The carrier tape has a web with slits or teeth engageable by a sprocket wheel which sequentially advances the fasteners until the stems engage a retractable stop. When the punch is advanced, the fasteners are pushed through the carrier tape to be deformed by an upsetting die aligned with the punch. In modified embodiments, the fasteners are urged transversely from the web of the carrier tape, the carrier tape being advanced by a gear which engages teeth on a side flange on the carrier tape. The sprocket wheel may be remotely driven e.g. by a flexible cable drive to accommodate the movement as the fastening head is advanced towards, or retracted from, the upsetting die.

Abstract: A screw-driving apparatus has a sprocket (21) causing the belt (70) to intermittently advance, and the sprocket is rotatably held on a transverse shaft (26) supported in a side wall of a slider (2) perpendicularly to a driver bit (7). The sprocket (21) is driven by a ratchet wheel (22) rotated by a pawl (24) swingably connected to a bell crank (23), the ratchet wheel (22) coaxial with the sprocket rotating only in one direction along with the sprocket. The bell crank (23) located near the sprocket is rockably held on the slider (2) and its one arm normally protrudes upwards to engage with a shoulder (35) formed in an upper wall of a casing (1), and the pawl (24) is pivoted to the bell crank's other arm.

  • Patent number: 6065660
Abstract: A tin cap dispenser for pneumatic nail guns that include a continues source of nails. The dispenser is also pneumatically activated and coupled to the operation of the nail gun. A pneumatically actuated handler arm member is reciprocally moved between two positions, one engaging a tin cap and the other one releasing it in alignment with a positioned nail also in coaxial alignment with the hammer of a nail gun. The timing of the tin cap handler arm member controls a valve assembly in series with the conventional trigger mechanism of the nail gun and another valve also in series that is activated by the handler arm member. A lock assembly inhibits the operation unless sufficient time is given to the feeding nails mechanism to get out of the way. The resulting device permits the continuous installation of tin caps on a flat surface.

Abstract: A driver for fasteners, and particularly, a power screwdriver is described which is adapted to drive screws having different diameters. The power screwdriver has a removable guide tube and complementary drive shaft. The guide tube is sized to the diameter of one size of screw. The complementary removable drive shaft is sized to be guided in the guide shaft, reciprocally movable therein to engage and guide a screw located in the guide tube. By removal of one pair of guide tube and complementary drive shaft and replacement with another pair of guide tube and complementary drive shaft adapted for use with screws having a different head diameter, the driver is adapted for driving screws of different head diameters.

Abstract: In the left-and-right-direction center of the bottom portion of a staple loading chamber 5, there is formed an opening 6, the left-and-right-direction central portion of the upper surface of a staple guide table 7 is exposed through the opening 6, and on the two left and right sides of the opening 6, there are formed staple guide grooves 9L and 9R which respectively communicate with the staple guide table 7. A belt with a tab portion is bonded to and wound on a roll staple. If the roll staple with the belt is inserted into the staple loading chamber 5, a front lid 2 is closed and the belt is pulled forwardly while holding the tab portion thereof, then the belt comes loose, so that the front portion of the roll staple is guided into the staple guide grooves 9L and 9R and is then fed to a position located in front of the staple guide table 7.
