Patent number: 4262836Abstract: This invention relates to a sewing apparatus. Staples or tacks having the function of a sewing thread are first penetrated successively through a work placed on a bed. The staples or tacks are supplied and fed successively from a feeder which is provided over the work. The extremities of the staples or tacks are then transformed so as not to be removed from the work. The penetrating and transforming operations are performed simultaneously at a plurarity of points or successively from point to point, whereby seams or patterned seams adjacent to each other are accomplished to sew the work.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1979Date of Patent: April 21, 1981Inventor: Tokuzo Hirose

Patent number: 4211353Abstract: A safety device for apparatus for driving fasteners, notably pneumatic nailing hammers and stapling guns, comprising feeler means substantially circumscribing the passage through which the fasteners are to be ejected. The feeler means are connected to the member controlling the release of the apparatus in such a manner that this release cannot take place unless the feeler means are pressed against a surface to be assembled. The feeler means consist of a plurality of independent feeler points which must be recessed simultaneously, otherwise the apparatus cannot be released. Only one of these feeler points is connected to the trigger of the apparatus and its retraction is normally prevented by positive locking means that cannot be released unless the other feeler points are depressed simultaneously against the force of resilient means urging them to their projecting position.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1979Date of Patent: July 8, 1980Assignee: Regie Nationale des Usines RenaultInventor: Jean-Marie Aunis

Patent number: 4211352Abstract: A pneumatic, linear thrust hand tool, such as a nail driver wherein a charge of pressurized gas in a firing chamber acts, when a main valve is opened, to drive a ram downward. The main valve is opened by a higher pressure source gas entering a charging chamber under a piston carried on the valve stem. Then a control valve is released, the pressurized gas under the piston is delivered to the main cylinder to return the ram and, when the main valve is closed, the pressure in the firing chamber is equalized with that in the charging chamber to prepare it for the next "firing".Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1979Date of Patent: July 8, 1980Inventor: Thomas J. Patent number: 4195762Abstract: A nozzle assembly for a nail gun includes three wing portions pivotally mounted on a nozzle holder to define a nozzle tapering towards a nozzle outlet. When the wing portions are in their inner closed position they can support an upholsterer's nail with the nail head resting on the inner walls of the nozzle, and the nail stem located in the nozzle outlet. When the nail is being driven into upholstery, the nail head forces apart the wing portions against the action of a resilient support ring. The wing portions may be surrounded by an outer casing which may be rotatable. This outer casing may have a cut-away portion or flat formed on it.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1978Date of Patent: April 1, 1980Assignee: Fisco Products LimitedInventor: Stanley J. Burton

Patent number: 4136275Abstract: Apparatus for installing metallic inserts into thermoplastic material. The apparatus comprises a heating device in combination with a heating element having a first bore adapted to receive the heating device. The heating element is formed into an elongated tip specifically shaped to grasp a metallic insert which is then heated by conduction to a temperature suitable for melting the thermoplastic material. A longitudinal bore in alignment with the first bore and coupled thereto with a second bore extends through the heating element elongated tip. Plunger apparatus slidably inserted in the longitudinal bore and second bore is positioned by spring apparatus located in the second bore to maintain the metallic insert in engagement with the elongated tip of the heating element during the heating and insertion of the metallic insert into the thermoplastic material.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1977Date of Patent: January 23, 1979Assignee: Bell Telephone Laboratories, IncorporatedInventor: Harold E. Patent number: 4128609Abstract: A plastic heel is attached by inserting through an insole of a shoe a fastener, and vibrating the fastener at ultrasonic frequency to cause its shank to melt the plastic and become embedded in the heel. The fastener may be a staple with wide legs having holes therein. The shank of the shoe may be bridged by the staple for added attachment strength. Since less work penetration is needed than in nail-attaching of heels, advantage is gained especially in securing sharply tapering or so-called "stiletto" heels.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1977Date of Patent: December 5, 1978Assignee: USM CorporationInventor: Francis F.
