Patent number: 5467524Abstract: An apparatus for tagging plants includes a frame attached to a stand, and jaws operably mounted on the frame for receiving a plant branch. The apparatus includes a strip advancing mechanism, a tag advancing mechanism, a fastening mechanism, and a programmable controller for controlling the actuation of each of these mechanisms. The strip advancing mechanism is configured to advance a section of flexible strip onto the jaws in a loop around the plant branch from a continuous supply of strip material, and includes a cutter for cutting the section from the continuous supply of strip material once it is advanced. The tag advancing mechanism is configured to advance a tag to a position proximate the jaws from a continuous supply of interconnected tags, and includes a cutter for cutting the tag from the supply of tags. The fastening mechanism includes a stapler for stapling a staple to the tag to hold the tag to the section of strip and to hold the ends of the section together in the loop around the plant branch.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1994Date of Patent: November 21, 1995Assignee: The John Henry CompanyInventor: Gordon J. Patent number: 4162678Abstract: A surgical apparatus for the simultaneous resection of soft tissues and their suturing with metal staples comprises an anvil and a staple branches, hinge-connected and having longitudinal jaws situated one opposite the other. A longitudinal row of grooves is made on the jaw of the anvil branch for clinching the ends of staples, while slots for the staples with staple tappets placed therein are provided on the jaw of the staple branch opposite said grooves. A plank with a wedge bevel on its end intended for interaction with the staple tappets when ejecting the staples is situated in the slot of the staple branch, and is longitudinally movable therealong. Rotation shafts are set along each branch with needles set perpendicularly to them, intended for grasping the soft tissue.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1977Date of Patent: July 31, 1979Assignee: Vsesojuzny Nauchno-Issledovatelsky I Ispytatelny Institut Meditsinskoi TekhnikiInventors: Vladimir M. Patent number: 4161271Abstract: There is disclosed a tag attaching method, particularly a method of pinning tags to merchandise and apparatus for carrying out the method. The illustrated apparatus includes a plunger and a cooperable anvil between which a tag and merchandise are positioned and through which a fastener specifically a pin is driven to attach the tag to the merchandise. While the pin is being driven through the tag and merchandise, a movable pin guiding and crimping member moves relative to the plunger, the tag and the pin. The pin is driven firstly through the tag, secondly through the merchandise, thirdly through the merchandise again, fourthly through the tag again, and fifthly through the tag again, and thereupon the movable pin guiding and pin crimping member is moved again to crimp the pin. A bottom tag in a stack is separated by feeding it toward the pinning zone in one machine cycle and the separated tag is positioned between the anvil and the plunger during the early part of the next machine cycle.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1977Date of Patent: July 17, 1979Assignee: Monarch Marking Systems, Inc.Inventor: Charles B. Patent number: 4079878Abstract: There is disclosed a pinning machine having an improved plunger, an improved guide track and an improved knife assembly. The plunger has relatively movable sections threadably connected together to enable the length of the plunger to be changed so that tags can be pinned to different thicknesses of merchandise by changing the plunger length. The guide track includes a one-piece leaf spring which acts against one edge of a web tags to urge the other side of the web against an edge guide. The spring is resiliently held in captivity in a recess without being secured in the recess as by fasteners. The knife assembly includes a pair of fixed knives separated by a gap and a movable knife guided by guide means in the gap. The movable knife is floatingly or loosely mounted so that the guide means is the sole means for guiding the movable knife relative to the fixed knives.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1976Date of Patent: March 21, 1978Assignee: Monarch Marking Systems, Inc.Inventor: Richard W. Patent number: 4030653Abstract: An apparatus for splicing two rolls of tire cord fabric in axially aligned relation. A plurality of splicing rods are forced through overlapped ends of the rolls from opposing longitudinal sides of the fabric. The splicing rods are guided through the overlapped ends at successive points spaced along parallel lines angularly disposed to the parallel warp cords of the fabric and alternately pierce and pass through the pieces of fabric from the farthest spaced faces of the overlapped ends. The splicing rods are firmly snubbed together and held in position by the coaction of the warp cords and weft threads of the fabric, as the fabric is tensioned.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1973Date of Patent: June 21, 1977Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventor: Joel M.
