Patent number: 5893203Abstract: A process for seating a tight-fitting headed fastener in a hole in a workpiece so that the head of the fastener contacts the surface of the workpiece. The process includes inserting a distal end of the fastener, opposite its headed end, into the hole so that the distal end is tightly wedged into the hole and the headed end of the fastener is spaced from the workpiece surface. A driver of an electromagnetic impulse actuator is extended into contact with the fastener head, and the position of the driver when it is in contact with the fastener head is sensed and recorded to determine how far the fastener must be driven into the hole to seat the fastener head against the workpiece surface. A desired off-set distance of the driver from the fastener head is calculated which will result in seating of the fastener when the electromagnet impulse actuator is actuated, but will not cause excessive impact of the fastener head with the workpiece surface.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1997Date of Patent: April 13, 1999Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventor: James N. Patent number: 4708276Abstract: This invention relates to automatic lattice fabrication apparatus for automatically forming sections of lattice from strips of wood of a predetermined length and width. The apparatus includes an elongated horizontal conveyor that conveys lattice strips from a lay-up section through an automatic adhesive dispenser, under an automatic stapling bridge where the lattice is stapled, through rip saws that trim the sides of the lattice and, when desired, cut the lattice in half, and through an automatic cross-cut saw mechanism that periodically stops the conveyor, lowers a saw and cuts off a section of lattice when it reaches a predetermined length, and then lifts the saw out of the way and resumes conveyor movement.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 1986Date of Patent: November 24, 1987Assignee: Universal Forest ProductsInventors: Wayne M. Patent number: 4623082Abstract: An electronic stapler suitable to accommodate staples in the form of staple sheets, in which a predetermined number of unformed staple elements are connected adjacent to one another, and a number of these staple sheets are stacked and accommodated in a generally rectangular cartridge, which is placed above the staple sheet feed path of the stapler. The stapler includes a former-driver unit and a power source for driving the former and the driver is provided by a small-sized electric motor which requires no instantaneous high consumption of electric current and generates no impact operation sound and noise, and the clinching operation of one cycle is effected by one controlled rotation of a rotating drive shaft having a speed reduced from the rotational output of the electric motor.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1985Date of Patent: November 18, 1986Assignee: Max Co. Patent number: 4610381Abstract: A drywall tool provides tactile and audible feedback to the user, as a fastener is driven by frequent multiple blows, to indicate when the fastener is properly driven, and the drywall dimpled, without tearing the paper facing of the drywall. Dimpling apparatus and a firing valve for controlling the multiple blows are described. A cam is provided to withdraw the magazine follower from the last fastener in a strip to avoid jamming or damage by a descending driver. Tool apparatus permits use of lightweight, synthetic parts.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 1984Date of Patent: September 9, 1986Assignee: Senco Products, Inc.Inventors: Francis J. Kramer, Lester D. Patent number: 4605149Abstract: A machine for automatically driving object such as staples into a rod at substantially equally spaced intervals comprises a stapling device for driving staples into the rod, a driving assembly for moving the rod past the stapling device, and an indexing wheel contacting the rod so as to be driven to rotate by movement of the rod. A series of spaced switch activators such as pins on the wheel are positioned to operate one or more switches each time they rotate into contact with a switch. The activator for each switch is arranged to control operation of the stapling device, so that a staple is driven into the rod each time the switch is activated and a series of staples are driven into the rod at spacings controlled by the switch activator spacings. Where there is more than one switch corresponding to different staple spacings, a switch selector is provided to select any one of the switches for controlling the stapling device.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1985Date of Patent: August 12, 1986Assignees: Arthur M. Patent number: 4598468Abstract: An apparatus, for assembling a pair of fastener elements of a garment fastener, includes a safe-confirmation member mounted on a lower end of a vertically movable supporting rod supported by a frame in parallel relation to a punch-carrying plunger, and a drive means for moving the supporting rod vertically between an uppermost position in which the safe-confirmation member is disposed around a punch, and a lowermost position in which the safe-confirmation member is disposed around the die in the absence of the operator's finger or a tool near the die. Upon arrival of the safe-confirmation member at the lowermost position, a detecting means produces a command signal to start lowering of the punch toward the die.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1984Date of Patent: July 8, 1986Assignee: Nippon Notion Kogyo Co., Ltd.Inventor: Keiichi Yoshieda

Patent number: 4589581Abstract: An electromechanical device associated with table staplers for automating the operation of such staplers. A box-like body houses and restrains a conventional table stapler. The body is provided with a camming member for controllably pressing on the movable arm of the stapler, to cause a metal staple to be ejected and its ends to be bent against the die arranged on the fixed arm of the stapler. A timer device releases the arm of the stapler and resets the camming member after a preset period of time.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1984Date of Patent: May 20, 1986Assignee: Balma, Capoduri & C., S.p.A.Inventor: Giorgio Balma
