  • Patent number: 9572581
Abstract: Tissue manipulation and securement systems are described herein. A tissue manipulation assembly is pivotably coupled to the distal end of a tubular member and has a lower jaw member and an upper jaw member pivotably coupled to the lower jaw member. A reconfigurable launch tube is also pivotably coupled to the upper jaw member and is used to urge the jaw members from a low-profile configuration to an open configuration for receiving tissue. The tissue manipulation assembly may be advanced through a shape-lockable endoscopic device, a conventional endoscope, or directly by itself into a patient. A second tool can be used in combination with the tissue manipulation assembly to engage tissue and manipulate the tissue in conjunction with the tissue manipulation assembly.

Abstract: A surgical hand grip for a surgical tubular shaft instrument is provided. The hand grip includes a coupling device for coupling to a tubular shaft tool having a tubular shaft and a force transmission element movable back and forth relative thereto. The coupling device has a coupling element for coupling to the force transmission element and a connecting element for connecting to the tubular shaft. A gripping device is connected to the coupling element and is transferable from a non-actuating disposition into at least one actuating disposition and vice versa thereby changing the mutual relative spacing between the coupling element and the connecting element. The hand grip has a guiding device with a guiding body for guiding the coupling element during the transfer from the non-actuating position into the at least one actuating position along a grip axis independently of the disposition of the gripping device during the transfer.

  • Patent number: 9480477
Abstract: An apparatus for applying surgical clips has a body portion housing a clip stack and a pair of jaws supported at a distal end of the body portion. The body portion includes a camming member, a clip follower and a lockout member having a plurality of stop members. The lockout member is movable from a first position in slidable relation to the camming member to a second position interlocked with the camming member. The camming member has at least one notch, and in a second position the lockout member has at least one of the stop members positioned to interface with the at least one notch. The engagement between the stop member and the notch limits distal movement of the camming member. The clip follower actuates the lockout member when the clip follower advances to a predetermined clip in the clip stack.

  • Patent number: 8789736
Abstract: A stapling element is provided, operative to pierce and penetrate a tissue by a first end, and close around the tissue. Three factors help prevent local necrosis: 1. The self-closing feature of the staple does not lead to tissue crushing. 2. Edge seams are applied generally perpendicular to the tissue edge, allowing for blood supply to the tissue edge. 3. Excess tissue is cut off at the seam, minimizing the amount of tissue that may undergo local necrosis. A physical feature prevents the staple from rotating, when in an application shaft, to maintain a predetermined closing direction. The stapling element may be formed of an alloy, a pure metal, a polymer, or a composite of at least two materials. Additionally, staplers, anastomosis devices, and methods for their applications are described.
