Abstract: An RFID tag is secured to an electrically-conductive object having an external peripheral edge where first and second non-coplanar sides of the object meet one another, wherein at least the first non-coplanar side comprises electrically-conductive material. By one approach the RFID tag is secured to the first non-coplanar side of the object at the external peripheral edge such that a first portion of the RFID tag's antenna proximally overlies an electrically-conductive portion of the first non-coplanar side of the object while a second portion of the RFID tag's antenna does not proximally overlie any electrically-conductive portion of the object. Determining the size of the first portion of the RFID tag's antenna that will overlie the first non-coplanar side of the object comprises tuning the capacitive coupling between the first portion of the RFID tag's antenna and the object to thereby achieve a desired range and/or degree of RFID tag performance.
Abstract: An article holder for a package utilizes a strip of heat-formed plastic with recessed embossments and lateral fold lines separating adjacent formed side panels. The fold lines provide lines of relative structural weakness about which the strip can be folded into a closed, wrap-around support framework. Recessed embossments on overlapping panels provide attachment by simple press fit such that no adhesives or die cutting are required and the structural strength of the strip material is maximized. Recessed embossments configured to receive opposite ends of packaged articles hold packaged articles in a fixed position. Angled corner supports traverse the width of the strip adjacent to each fold line such that when the strip is folded the support surfaces are in face-to-face abutment, providing added rigidity and resistance from twisting.
Abstract: A web of fibrous material having windows covered by a transparent material, and which is modified by compression, shaving, or embossing, so as to maintain a substantially uniform thickness throughout the length of the web. When the web is then wound onto itself, the resulting roll will have a substantially circular cross-section.
Abstract: A modified atmosphere packaging system and method which allows field and/or centralized facility packing of fresh produce and refrigerated air to circulate throughout a palletized stack of cartons. The packaging includes a transparent lid which is sealingly attached to a corrugated carton allowing for inspection of perishable produce contained therein without breaching an established modified atmosphere.
