Abstract: A flip-top closure for composite and cardboard packaging, which permits the automatic opening of a package by flipping open the lid of the closure, includes a frame base element, which is designed to be welded by its level underside to composite or card-board packaging, and has a continuous peripheral overhang that protrudes upwards in order to form a pouring neck with an interior opening. A cover that flips open and closes is fixed to the base element. A guide, or tongue, element is pivotally mounted on the base element extends over the interior expanse of the overhang and friction-fit elements act between the tongue, or guide, element and the cover to pivot the tongue downwardly by force when the cover is flipped open for tearing and pivoting away a piece of the packaging lying below the tongue or guide element.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for dispensing products provided initially in a package. The system includes a frame and an opening tool. The frame has longitudinally opposed front and rear end sections and includes an upper support deck extending at least partially between the front and rear end sections and below which a product display area is provided. The opening tool is associated with the frame and is arranged to open the package when the package is moved longitudinally on the upper support deck and relative to the opening tool thereby allowing the products to be at least partially dispensed from the package into the product display area.

Abstract: A top closure obturating panel (2) of a carton is formed with a partial depth cut (4) in the form of an open loop of which one end (4a) is at a greater distance from a central zone of the loop (4) than is the other end (4b). Following filling and top-sealing of the carton, there is applied to the panel (2) a pour spout fitment consisting of a flanged pour spout, a screw cap on the pour spout, and a plunger co-operating with the screw cap and the pour spout in such manner that, upon unscrewing of the screw cap, the plunger screws inwards. At its inner end, the plunger is formed with arcuate pushing blades (6), which thereby cause the laminate material of the panel (2) to fracture along the partial depth cut (4) such that an encircling portion (2a) of the panel (2) and an encircled portion (2b) within the loop (4) separate from each other along the loop (4), but remain interconnected by way of an intermediate portion (2c) extending through between the ends (4a) and (4b) of the loop (4).

Abstract: A blank, carton, or package that includes a dispensing panel is described. The dispensing panel is detachable along tear lines to create an opening in the carton to allow removal of product from the carton. The dispensing panel including a dispensing panel projection and edge projections are provided along a panel parallel the dispensing panel. The dispensing panel projection and the edge projections form a stand feature that allows the carton to be disposed in an upright configuration. The carton can include a viewing opening, which can be covered with a substantially transparent material, and which can provide viewing access to product in the carton.

Abstract: A container formed from a paperboard laminate and including a rupturable opening for gaining access to the contents of the container, the opening being defined by an embossment pattern in a wall of the container. The embossment defines a weakened area which includes the layers of the laminate, but without destruction or deterioration of selected ones of the barrier/sealing layers of the laminate. A method is disclosed.

Abstract: A pouring spout for use in providing a conduit for the discharge of the contents of a closed container containing fluids or granulated materials includes a cylindrical inner housing having an open top end and a removable tethered cap. A pair of opposing punch blades affixed to the cylindrical inner housing is provided for insertion into a top surface of a container where the cylindrical inner housing and the punch blades serve to provide a discharge conduit for the container. A projection spur is formed on each of the punch blades for forcing open the top surface of the container. An outer safety sleeve is provided for covering the punch blades when the punch blades are withdrawn from the top surface of the container.

Abstract: A pourer spout for a composite package of the carton brick type, arranged to be located level with the opening zone of the latter. The pourer spout comprises a base (2) fixed onto the container around the opening zone, and an articulated cover (4), able to reclose the container after opening. A perforating piece (6) is mounted pivotally on the base (2), facing the opening zone, in order to be moved between an initial position in which it is situated entirely outside the container to a final position in which it is situated substantially inside the container. A striker (8) is mounted pivotally on the base (2) in order to push the perforating piece (6) towards the inside of the container while perforating the wall of the latter and to more or less take the initial position of the perforating piece (6), the striker (8) in this last position acting as pourer.

For necked beverage containers, in one embodiment, a re-usable snap-on display device, or assembly, is configured to snap onto the neck of the container, in another embodiment, the existing conventional cap-attaching ring is modified to include alpha-numeric indicia and/or to receive a cooperating indicia-indicating display element.

A push-piece for breaking open the predetermined opening is provided in the lower part. The push-piece is joined to the lower part by a snap hinge, making the device more user-friendly and ensuring that the laminated paper predetermined opening does not obstruct the pouring opening area.

Abstract: A mouth forming device for a container includes an opening section, an operating section and a supporting section which are disposed in substantially the same plane. A substantially U-shaped groove is provided between one end portion of the opening section and one end portion of the operating section. The supporting section surrounds a portion of the opening section and the operating section. The operating section is linked to and supported by the supporting section through axles. The opening section, the operating section and the supporting section are integrated through a thin wall portion and the support axles by molding. When the other end portion of the operating section is raised, the axles are twisted and the operating section rotates about the axles to close groove. Accordingly, the end portion of the opening section is pressed by the end portion of the operating section and the part of the container located beneath the opening section is opened by the opening section.

Abstract: A reclosable fitment for a paperboard package having rear intrusion, anti-finger intrusion protection, and a raised spout to more naturally and directly allow the liquid within the container to be dispensed. The present invention provides a two piece fitment or closure having a base which is adapted to be attached about a scored area on a paperboard package. A lever is pivotally attached to the base and includes a rear portion which is adapted to open the scored area at a rear portion thereof. The rear portion is forced downwardly into the container by lifting upwardly on the forward portion of the lever. The forward portion of the lever has a built-in pouring spout which when placed into the open position forms a natural spout elevated away from the base to allow the liquid to more naturally and accurately be directed away from the package. A cover can be pivotally attached to the base to protect the lever from contaminates, and to automatically open the package upon lifting the cover away from the base.

Abstract: A pouring element for attachment to a package containing flowable material, and having a pouring opening covered with a perforated or otherwise weakened material. The pouring element of the present invention allows for the opening of the package without contamination of the contents therein. In one embodiment of the pouring element, there exists an opening means that has an attached support element and which is hinged to a base plate portion of the pouring element. In conjunction with movement of a lid portion, the support element and opening means act to penetrate a tearable material covering a pouring opening of the package, thereby allowing the contents thereof to be dispensed. In another embodiment, the opening means may be a portion of the support element and may be affixed to the lid. After initial opening of the lid, the support element may position itself such that closing of the lid will cause penetration of the tearable material layer by the opening means, and thus the opening of the package.

Abstract: A package opening and closing device for a brick-type package is fastened thereon near an opening region defining a pouring region for the product contained in the package. The opening region is provided with prescoring to allow the package to be opened during the first use. The device includes a peripheral ring fastened to the package near the perimeter of the opening region, a lid to seal off the opening region reversibly and being fixed to the peripheral ring, and a lever hinged by a hinge pin in the horizontal plane containing the device to rupture the pouring region along the prescoring.

One end of the penetration device (4) is designed as a hook (11).The penetration device (4) is intended to be broken free from the packaging container (1) and, with the tip (20) of the hook-shaped portion (12), the layers covering the hole (2) are penetrated.

Abstract: An easy-open beverage container and an opening system for the beverage container are provided which include a container barrier wall having a straw hole. An easy-open tamper-evident membrane seal is located inside of the container and sealingly covers the straw hole. This membrane seal includes an outer portion which is sealed to an inside surface of the barrier wall about the straw hole and which terminates at a distance from the straw hole. This outer portion includes fingers which extend toward the straw hole. The membrane seal also includes an inner portion integral with the outer portion which is not sealed to the inside surface and which covers the straw hole so that in use the straw pierces the inner portion after being inserted into the straw hole. Preferably, the fingers form a sinusoidal intersection of the inner and outer portions, and the inner and outer portions as well as the straw hole are concentric.

Abstract: An improved straw hole design for a drink package which allows venting to occur in air gaps around the straw while the straw is inserted in the straw hole. This invention prevents the common problem of squirting or spill-over out of the top of the straw when a drink box is squeezed or otherwise compressed. Several embodiments are disclosed in which a "C" shaped pre-cut, a "U" shaped pre-cut and "V" shaped pre-cut are incorporated into the package for later insertion of the straw.
